  1. The kinks have been fine for me as long as the are straightened out by untwisting them the opposite way they went in. The Penn 345 has been a real reliable reel for me so far. A good way to let coppers out is by backing off the drag to your desired deployment speed. some spools free spool with the clickers too fast for my liking.
  2. If you want to know how far down your cheaters are, fix them in place with a rubberband. It all depends on speed, depth of your ball, and tension on the rod.
  3. The only thing the catch is the bottom!
  4. Capt., If you want the speed consistant, kick up the rpm's and add a drift sock or 2 to slow you down. My throttle is the same. It is either too much or too little. Some spoons (like NK's) are heavier and will not run below 2.3 mph. If you speed and temp probe is off .1 or .2, it may have a significate impact on the action of your spoons at that speed. Try some lighter spoons or kick the speed up. Some days they want stuff trucking. Good luck.
  5. Thanks for responding back. If the deal falls through, let me know.
  6. I'm going to guess 36.2lbs. from the Mexico / Pulaski area. Hopefully the fish is caught by one of L.O.U's great fishermen. Good luck to everyone.
  7. Thanks Tom. My father said the boats were loaded up good right out in front of camp this morning.
  8. Tom, What was the big fish of the tourney?
  9. Congrats on the 4th place laker. I'm glad to see you got your son out there and into fish. Hopefully your laker holds in there for you.
  10. I have some of my flies tied shorter and some longer (up to 36"). Some days the longer leads out produce the shorter. It all depends on the mood of the fish.
  11. Distance out for wires will also vary by brand of reel being used. Good starting point is a 3 to 1 ratio (3 feet of wire out for 1 foot of depth) for a 2 setting.
  12. Sea Lion, Are the black or chrome? I'm interested. Do you have pics?
  13. 2 - Shimano 8'6" downrigger rods (only 3 months old) - selling because they don't match my other copper rods. Used 2 or 3 times. 1- Diawa Heartland 7'6" Medium light action rod (3 seasons old) - selling because I'm slowly converting all of the old brown colored heartlands to the new black ones. $15 each rod or $40 for all 3. Seller pays shipping and packaging cost or I will meet you in the Hilton / Hamlin / Sandy Creek area.
  14. Rich, Don't be afraid to fish colder or warmer. Lately a lot of big kings have come on the warm side for me. We also took some fish down in the 42 degree water that were not being marked on the fishfinder last Sunday.
  15. Rod Hog, First, Ego filled head? Where in any of my posts on this thread have a bragged about my fishing skills??? I'm talking about the port it self not the fisherman that fish out of it. READ ALL THE POSTS BEFORE JUMPING IN AND ADDING YOU COMMENTS. Second, I have fished the Genesee, Braddocks and I-bay (many years out of I-bay) and moved to Sandy. The reason, Sandy was a more productive fishery for ALL species (in my opinion).
  16. Zebedee, Thats not a king, thats a big steelie. Very nice fish. Too bad the derby starts next week.
  17. I have 4 of the same kind of riggers with 400' of cable on each. They are all rigged with the same 12# weights. I run 2 fishfinders with one transducer tipped back to see the balls. They are all different by a foot or two from each other. As for the depth fishfinder vs. rigger counter, it is about 5 - 7' off. Having 2 fishfinders helps considerably. You can put the ball where you are consistantly seeing marks.
  18. Rick, Duane, I'm not saying that Sandy has better fishermen by any means. All I'm pointing out is Sandy seems to be a more consistant fishery for all species (year after year during the Orleans Derby). With the numbers of guys that fish out of the Oak (way more than Sandy) the numbers should be the opposite that they are. I have a lot of respect for a lot of captians and recs out of the Oak. The Oak has some of the biggest names on the lake. Sorry to anyone that was offended by my comments.
  19. Sorry Tom it was not me. I have not been flyfishing carp yet this summer.
  20. Because she is above frycook at McDonalds and he is not!
  21. Grand Prize , 2nd, 3rd, 4th Salmon, 1st place brown, all the lakers (I believe). Not bad at all. Maybe this is why Sandy is out of the Oak 3 fish derbies .
  22. I have a pool ladder for sale. It is a ladder for pools without a deck. The outside steps are removable for safety. $20.00 takes it. Pickup or meet somewhere near my house only. Pics available on request.
  23. Here is a picture of my nephew and I with his 19lb. 4 oz laker that holds 2nd place right now in the Orleans County Rotary Derby. He reeled the fish in all by himself and smiled the entire time (not nearly as much as FISHIMAN would have). My brother is going to get this fish mounted for him.
