FISHIN AGAIN?

Got a text from a friend yesterday about goin fishin this morning. I have tried to get him out but things haven't worked out. He had a friend in from Colorado who wanted to try fishin in the big lake. I checked into the wind and weather forcast and told him I will take the day off from the coal mines and we will give it a try. When we got to the launch an old retired coworker just got there also. Knowing that the fishing was good the past few days we started setting up about 6:45 in 100 fow. I put out a couple dipsy and spinnies, a short leadcore and cheaters and sliders on the riggers. It didn't take long and the rigger fired with a 2 yr King. Chuck had fun bringing him to the boat for his first Lake O fish. We then got into a few steel which managed to avoid the boat. 1 for 4 was not the start I wanted. I changed things up a bit and then got into a nice flurry again. We got a 5 pound steel in and then while putting that rig back down, the .10 color fires and a nice steel is on. Chuck fought him for a little bit and then the fish was off, however he took one more jump just for fun and threw us the bird. Right then the rigger which I just put down 15 feet but did not put a cheater on yet went off. We got a chunky 7 pound Brown in. Things were goin well now and I was glad we got Chuck some fish. After a short lull the starboard dipsy rips and we are into a nice teenage king. It took Chuck a while but we got the king in which was around 17 pounds. Chuck was so psyched about getting that King. Biggest fish of his life. We decided to go play with the Lakers for a little while but they did not want to play 2day. We ended up with 7 fish out of 11 hits. We got most of our hits around the 200 -220 Depth. Surface temp was 73 degrees. Getting warm out there boys. Sorry no down temp. We had a fun morning and I was happy to get Chuck on some fish. Welcome to the lake. Some of the best fishing anywhere right in our front yard.

There is a slot limit to protect the fish at prime spawning age. However there does not seem to be much natural reproduction in Lake Ontario even after all these years of stocking them. There have been some different strains of Lakers stocked in the past 10 years or so maybe that is why there is more. There has been a lot of pressure on them lake wide this year due to the lake condtions. As the lake sets up most will go back to chasing silvers.

Wow sounds like a blast. Hard to believe with that many fish there wasn't a 20 plus in the mix. Theres gonna be some big ones 5 years from now. Gonna try to get my boy out 2moro nite to catch a few. Lakers are a great way to keep a kids interest,mine too.

I had a new 1000 feet this year and then I had a king on and the spool got snarled. I saved the wire and tried the splice in the Torpedo video, had a couple Lakers on it this weekend but need a couple screamin Kings to see how it holds up.

Went out of the creek with my friend Matt yesterday morning at about 6. With a tip from one of the Sandy regulars I decided to start shallow for browns. We started at the creek and headed East in about 10 fow. Water color was awesome and so was the fishing. I ran spoons off of planer boards and riggers. We ended up 9 for 11 all Browns. 3 were over 10 pounds, biggest just under 13. One of the fish burped an Alewife and had one down his throat. A lamprey went back into the drink dead. We went in at 10:30 and was back home with the family by 11:30. I love livin near the Lake. Hope to get out later this week.

We had a similar result off the Genny although we did get a couple Lakers. We caught them first thing after that nuthin. Hardly marked anything. We should have went west.

Yes it does really work well. We have had Steelhead revive and swim away when I was sure they were never gonna make it after we got them to the boat.

Just want to let everyone know that Oatka Creek will be stocked this year with yearling and 2year old browns on Friday March 29th. Looks like it will be a little while to the big lake gets goin so why not get some creek fishin in. The trucks will be in Canawagus Park in Scottsville around 9:00 if anyone wants to watch. Also if you have never seen it the trucks will be loaded with the fish at about 8:00 AM at the Hatchery in Caledonia.

Our first trip last year was March 12th and the water temp was 36 degrees and we went 15 for 20 on Browns. Its comin.

We were on Braddocks yesterday from 9-2, had 20 tipups in and we got 4 Pike on top. We had seven runs. I tried tip downs first for a while for Perch with not much goin I switched for Pike. Perch bite seemed pretty slow for most that I talked to. They are probably slaying them today.
