  1. For a short time,I owned the riviera triple boards and I hated them. I was told by the the salesman to add lead on the rear ends and mostly on the outer board. There really is no good place to add lead and once you start cutting the styrofoam you will find that you do not really have anything to attach the lead to. I'm not even talking about equal weight on both sides. Long story short,I sold the boards to somebody in British Columbia and bought otter boats, they are much better.
  2. Man, that is a very tidy and effective set-up. You may get away with taking the measurements of the space where your battery is now and get the biggest possible one in there or the 2 smallest batteries ( I'm thinking honda or fiat size). The biggest possible one would probably be the most cranking amps. Combine that with a pergo 3 way switch and with the flick of a switch you can choose which engine you want to charge the battery with. As for a water separator ,you don't really need it because these small tanks are often almost emptied and they can easily be removed and emptied by hand if there is water or dirt inside
  3. There are open areas, but there are very big chunks of ice floating around
  4. How about putting one tank in your splash well?
  5. The guy who owns the marina at the south end of Owasco lake usually stocks quite a few.
  6. Same here. It's not only to protect the engine, but also the transom. That looks very neat. I'll see if it is possible to make a simular one and attach it to the transom above the I/O
  7. The fifty horse can use a small car battery and never have trouble, unless the battery is drained by a day of riggers going up and down,or if it is a walmart battery. It is always a good idea to have one deep cycle and one regular starter battery. That with a Pergo 3 way,so you can choose which battery to charge from what engine with the turn of a knob. Besides, you can buy a trickle charger for $30 at sears, this enables you to always completely recharge your battery while at home.
  8. How many poles are there on the plug? I'm asking because the p66 is sold with different type plugs dependent on the machine that it is used with
  9. Seeing that fishing for browns in spring is mostly flat lining, makes me wonder what a square noisy line like fleaflicker will do . Is it not much better to use 10 or 12 pound regular line which is less visible and less noisy than dragging a flea flicker grand orchestra line over the brown's head?
  10. I use nice light 18 pound test Cortland
  11. How about our own locally produced Cortland leadcore?
  12. I would turn the question around. How small a kicker. At low speed your boat becomes a displacement hull and for instance a 23 foot boat will not go faster than 8 miles an hour. Those 8 miles can easily be provided by 7 .5 or 6 horse engines, while a 15 horse will not make you go any faster, but just make you burn more fuel. Just make sure that your kicker is strong enough to get you back into port in adverse situations with a broke down main engine.

  14. But seriously now, please do not insult my intelligence with this stupid propaganda. It seems that there is a lot of cool aid dripping out of your teabags
  15. I think that the responsible body is "The Great Lakes Consortium". This is an international body that is responsible for most things having to do with the Great Lakes
  16. I saw some there a few weeks ago,but now they are all gone
  17. My shade tree electrician skills tell me that water is just about the best ground available, which in my humble opinion means that any thing that is conductive will be completely neutral relative to the fresh water around it. This is a different story with salt which has a much stronger ionic charge and will react strongly to anything it can react with. Anodes are a necessity in salt water ,but in fresh water much less so,for the same above mentioned reason. If you want to troll Lake Ontario and you want to set up your boat the right way,you would be much better off by investing in electric down riggers than in the black box.
  18. Why should lake char be called trout?? Just kidding. If we want to promote lake Ontario, we should not do it too selectively and any of the trout and salmon should be part of the game. As for getting rid of the daily prizes and go for a bigger final pot? Now that would be plain stupid. Many people come to fish for only one or 2 times and they pay into the derby because they have a decent chance to win something. If the daily prizes go away these people will probably still come fishing but they certainly will not buy a LOC derby ticket just to fatten the pot for the very few (professional??) daily fishermen. What about charging a daily fee for each day you go fishing? Now that would fatten the pot for the very few daily fishermen and at the same time put them on the same financial level playing field as the one time fisherman. That probably would not be quite so popular. As for increasing the fees in order to get a bigger prize.Again under the current rules this would mostly benefit the small group of daily fishermen. Most people come for an adventure and some fun. They bring a lot of money to the charters, the tackle shops and the local eateries. We should concentrate on bringing lots of fun loving fishermen who will come back later in the season to fish some more and bring their families to pick some fruit and buy stuff in the road stands, amish or otherwise. For the hardcore gambling fisherman there is the Pro-Am and the casino down the road. Cornelis.
  19. It looks nice and the price is right, but at least in my opinion, this is the sort of thing that you must see with your eyes and feel with your hands. The picture may be a lot nicer than the product
  20. If you are anywhere close to Rochester/ Brighton you may want to drop in and see what I have.
  21. Going through the different reports about what fish are good to eat and where they are from, I chanced upon a recommendation from the NY officials encouraging people to eat up to 4 meals of fish monthly from Lake Erie. My guess is that Lake Ontario may not be far behind. It seems that Lake Erie had all its water replaced with fresher and cleaner water, but this will take longer in Lake Ontario because of its much larger volume.
  22. If there are no elevated toxins found then it will be good news for us all. If you want to try and boycot this study because it is"scammy and agenda filled" then you should ask yourself whether you too have an agenda.
  23. I have 2 horizental quads, one on each side It gives me room for 3 lines to the planer boards and an additional one for a dipsey. To have 8 adjustable rod holders is great! It is a lot of lines for a 19 footer.
  24. Sorry for being less than precise in using correct terminology. By slip I meant drag. As far as leader length is concerned, it should be longer (I prefer longer) or shorter than the rod. You do not want the swivel/knot to be on or near the guides of your rod when you bring the fish to the net
  25. I would use small ball bearing swivels. If you use fluorocarbon, you should keep in mind that it has no stretch at all and you should set your slip accordingly
