  1. The requirement related to random testing is that you are enrolled in a random program if you are an active captain....it's up to you to be enrolled and carry proof of enrollment in a random consortium that meets CFR 46 and 49. From an insurance standpoint you will need a recent survey of your vessel most likely.
  2. They do although docks may not be in.....
  3. I run T4 15W40 in my 454 Crusaders - add a bottle of STP oil Treatment and change every 50 hours. Have run WIX filters and NAPA gold filters. Know a lot of guys who run T4 in their inboards - some guys run it straight, some add a bottle of Lucas Oil treatement, others run STP oil treatment. If you are running flat tappet cams dino oil is recommended - roller followers you are fine running synthetic or synthetic blends. I'm sure others have opinions and will chime in as well.
  4. Best time of the year to land big browns in my opinion is late May into June. Browns are really available all year - late August until they spawn they can get grumpy and in the fall Kings start to invade the brown trout waters; male kings are very territorial (likely pushing browns around) - but any other time of year they are there for the taking.
  5. I would run double keels with anything longer than about a 200 or 250 copper. Single keels definitely lag back and that increases your likelihood of your coppers finding your wires...especially considering the currents we have on the eastern end of the lake. The newer stainless keels are about the same weight as the older keels with the half weight - thus why they probably eliminated the half weight.
  6. I shouldn't do it but I can't help myself.....I'll take them Greg - Bobby has some patterns for BTs he wants me to paint....If still avail I can swing by after work and pick them up some night - text me and let me know what works for you....
  7. Another thought I had - it might be useful to post the events you plan to fish this season - that might help lure some folks in or maybe someone can join you for a few events but not all. Instead of taking the blanket approach it's possible a direct approach by putting a post up and say "looking for two guys to fish the Fair Haven Challenge on this date" etc. might help. Also consider putting the same post up on some of the FaceBook groups as well...Facebook is an active medium - it will put your post in front of people who belong to that page - forums like this one are passive - the person needs to find this thread.
  8. Bump for Price drop - just knocked $50 off - down to $425 for everything - retail probably north of $1200 if bought separately.
  9. Thanks for the offer - Trying to sell as a lot - If I break it up maybe we can talk....
  10. Entire lot of tackle everything in the pics is nearly new - some brand new with most of it never having seen water - $425 shipped to your door - lower 48 states only. With attractors pushing $20 each and new spoons at $7-10 each - this is a good deal for someone starting out who wants to put some decent tackle in the boat without breaking the bank. Good hooks on all lures and attractors all have hardware on them as well (snaps/swivels etc) - no misfit toys here. 11. Early spring on the finger lakes - set up exactly like you would on lake ontario if looking for rainbows, lakers, and browns - the only difference is on the finger lakes you don't need to be right up on shore - 100 yards out from shore you might be in 50 feet of water - don't worry too much about the amount of water you are over - flatlines, short cores with small spoon and stickbaikts will take fish in the spring on the fingers as well.
  12. Great show! Thank you to all who put time in to organize this event. Thanks again for letting us spend a little time talking about Brown Trout as well!
  13. Hope you enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed making it!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNu0hm94ncA
  14. Hey Rick - were there a lot of wounds on the fish you've handled so far this year (I know sometimes in pics you choose the best side so was just curious)?
  15. Hi - I know you asked this question at the Salmon School social Friday night this past week and I was hoping to address it when we got to the Tournament/Derby Considerations section Saturday but unfortunately we were short on time. Here's my feedback for anyone who is looking to do this. Most times the guys or friends you fish with become your tournament team - try just taking people out and if they seem like they would be a good fit maybe ask them to do a small tournament. Keep it low-key at first and see where it goes. Chemistry is really important because depending on expectations and level of competitiveness of the folks involved things can sour in a hurry. Have a discussion up front about expenses (entry fees, fuel, bait, ice) and possible winnings - how do you split it and if there are tax implications make sure you talk through that. Also - sometimes its common for the boat to take a share if there are winnings - just to replace lost gear, kinked wire, maintenance, wadded coppers and whatnot. What is the goal? Derby Fishing or tournaments? Lots of smaller east end tournaments to cut your teeth on. Make sure there is a pecking order - need one Chief and some Indians for most situations. Reliability - nothing worse than someone who is a no show on tournament day - stuff happens but make sure your team is committed. Discuss pre-fishing plans so everyone is on-board Walk the docks, make friends at marina's, bring people out who don't fish but who's job might just be to reel in fish. Don't neglect kids and women. My wife and kid are core to our tournament team (we have another guy who joins us) but we are very competitive in any event we fish, we usually cash a check, and we don't have a stacked team with multiple captains and mates. Join ELOSTA or another org in the area - lots of member and could be a place to find some folks to fish with. Realize it takes time sometimes to get the right mix of people and get things off the ground but the more you fish with those folks the more comfortable you become with them - ideally your "team" fishes together more than just tournament day. Good luck in your search
  16. I'm surprised this boat wasn't scooped up in the fall - great boat for someone and in great condition both cosmetically and mechanically!
  17. Was a great Salmon School this past weekend and I know I speak for the other instructors (Vince and Russell) - we appreciate everyone who came out and made it the event that it was! Thanks again!
  18. In all seriousness though - find a direction you can troll where you aren't crabbed out and you can maintain your desired speed - trolling bags will also help in almost all situations so if you don't run them you should consider them.
  19. Too bad - hopefully someone can use it - some great topics to be discussed and a solid goodie bag that will go along with the seat!
