when i first used leadcore i used long leads and couldnt buy a hit after researching on this site i switched to short leaders in my case real short 6-10 foot my short cores have been my most productive shallow water rods ever since shorten the lead the action the core gives the lure is unbeatable

last weekend was beautiful weather. made it easy to convince the wife that i had to be on the water before sun up to be able to fish

i run a real small boat and the mast is the way to go its a removeable but i have a homemade mast and homemade board across the front mast slides in and out of the hole in about 4 secs. when fishing alone the big boards help with keeping straight while fighting a fish and its my preference to have as little as possible attached to a line while fighting a fish. its nice when your alone to spread a line out that far as well makes for more space when fighting netting and steering

i used to drive out and sign up thursday or friday night this is the first year i mailed it in ahead they are there a lot of hours the week of the derby you should be able to sign up there with no trouble worst case get there before 6am on sat and you can still get in

I fell in love with P-Line while pike fishing i use it on tip ups and now all my rods. take the time to wet the know and tighten carefully and the stuff is awesome suprisingly good abrasion resistence and good streangth. I like to tie a 6 foot leader that way its easy to chage lb test and not need a whole new spool

white and fuzzy sounds like a fungal infection a lot of times the spores spread through contact and will bloom and grow when the fish is stressed and weakened. so post spawn is when you see more of this as you had a bunch of fish in close contact so one carrier can spread to many than they are stressed from being underfed and in the case of pike beating the crap out of each other. hopefully it wont lead to a widespread die off i remember fishing seneca about 6 years back befor i had riggers on the boat we would troll the shallows and you couldnt get 2 lines in the pike were so thick. one day in april after not catching any perch we just crusied the shallows with the electric to see what we could see and the pike were everywhare by the hundreds. i remember the big die off but I think more pike survied that most know but they spread out I know last year in early march we couldnt buy a bite off of severen so at the end of the day we pulled out the spinning gear and went shallow over the weeds we got 5 in one 30 minuet pass so there are still numbers around

sorry my whole point was its better to fish for browns but the suggested set up was good. i've converted from pike to trout in the last 3 years and spring browns are my favorite i encourage people to try it

thats funny i usually bring someone for the same reason 3 extra rods and because i dont have an auto pilot

i have to stop drinking and looking at these posts just makes me upset that i cant afford it. its what I want in every aspect towable fish the big lake and the fingers even has the kicker for good gas usage. damn it I wish i had a better paying job or fewer expenses. Maybe the wife will want to move to a smaller house

went out late morning ended up going a lone both fishing buddys couldnt find babysitters. lake was a lot rougher than the weather predicted but i though i would try it anyway. found a small amount of warmer water just east of the bay in about 12 foot. got as warm as 37 got one brown and two lakers out of it before i couldnet take being beat up by the lake any more. the brown managed to get two hooks in him one in the mouth one in the tail so I fought two rods and almost hit the pier against the waves. Was worth it for the first grill out of the year though. Lakers both went back all fish in the 6-8 pound range and nice and fat. sorry to the boat that was near me when i was fighthig but i hope you enjoyed the show

use the same spread in front of creek mouths for brown trout look for warm water as shallow as your willing out to like 30 feet main lake or large bays with several feeder streams

what model reel?

cant wait supposed to get out again this weekend wind looks like its gonna push me to watkins. I hope the browns are around I've never really gotten into them in the fingers just lake O when there near shore. My wife makes a tuscan grilled brown trout that is delicious I only get it about once a year though.

I think the point is its leagal to sell them if I lived close to a trib i would catch as many as I could and turn it into some new equipment for the summer. As for the guys who use them for bait theres no way I would purposely bring on my boat a bucket full of them slimey mother F$#@%&s

funny i did a search and didnt find that one i guess that answers my one question now if i can find the right stuff online or if the hollow ace will work.

I am thinking of switching my planer board set up to power pro instead of the braded dacron i have. Has any body tried this? will 200lb test work? the smaller diameter means i can get more on the reel i use and spread more for it. this will alow me more options for running without haveing to buy planer reel (i use a homemade mast with old converted level winds) I am adding a copper rod to my collection this year but also want to think about running two dipseys on a side and so need to get the copper or lead core farthur out than i currently can. Also i look on ebay and keep seeing the hollow ace power pro in the 200lb steangth will that work or should i get the downrigger line version? I want yellow if i can get it.

So to answer the Question yes the launch is open they even have one set of docks in. though the town may have just been to cheap to take them out. fished from the bay to webster and back had one knock off on a rapala than caught one brown just infront of the bay ss blue dolphin on a 2 color core. those short cores have been real good to me the last couple years. The water was cold 33 was the warmest I found and there was a lot that showed at 31 or less. I supposed its possible that my temp probe isnt 100% accurate as under 31 seems wrong to me but either way no warm pockets to concentrate them. fising should only improve from here on out.

i cant wait i'm planning on saturday this weekend the boat just needs some gear oil and is all set to go. the only thing that might stop me is if the weather is right I may go to lake O for browns
