  1. we fished the mouth sunday evening after the boat traffic died off we ended up going 2 for 4 with one jack one about 25 and the two lost were both decent fish lost afer a couple mins not bad for a 2 hour troll all spoons and one sd j-plugs did nothing
  2. its a combo of the browser the OS and the website sometimes to many different softwares just cant communicate just right thats one of the reasons a lot of sites now have the navagation directory on them as well there are a few websites like this for me
  3. i run a 14 foot two when i fish alone i'll still run 3 usually dipsey down rigger and a core to keep them spread but when i have a fishing buddy well run 6 all the time its g cool site to all those rods running on a 5 foot beam boards and cores are a wonderful thing
  4. just under the tabs at the top there is a directory guide it shows every folder you clicked on from the home page you can click on any part to go back there simlar to how you would serch for a file in windows
  5. thought i attacheched the pic the first time I dont get to very often if the weather doesnt cooperate next week i likely wont get another chance for kings till next fall thats okay gonna try rainbows and canandaguia this year. fish came in 35 fow and 20fow
  6. i agree in order to get the biggest lakers you have to have a healthy population size and low fishing pressure or increased catch and release pressure will help to increase the size but forage definatly plays a large role as well and gobys have become a new part of that equation. they have replaced the sculpin for the most part in the ecosystem but there numbers are far higher and by there nature they are easier prey which is part of why there tendancy is to reproduce rapidly. an easy abundent prey source will serve to help increase the overall size structure of any species that feeds on them readily. Lake trout are not fast growers so it will take time but provided the numbers stay decent and they are not overfished you will see increases in size possibly dramatic ones. as an example i say look at smallmouth. they grow much faster and there are more 4-6 lb fish than ever fishing for them has changed but the numbers and size dont lie.
  7. got out around 4 with the south wind thought i would try my luck at the mouth. well we started setting up about 50yds past the pier head had a charter come up behind us about 20 ft away go ahead of us stop do a circle go in reverse than start to set up 30 ft off our rear quater and they we're trolling at a faster speed so they cut not more than 10 feet ahead of us? i could identify his releases as he set his rigger what the hell? anyway bro and I played the better man and let it pass fished all the way out to 50 foot had one hit on a 6 color pulling a spin doc but missed it and started heading back close we marked maybe 10 fish all evening but at 35 foot hit a screamer that was with in 10 turns of spooling me. we had to turn right at it to get some line back ended up as 31# fish for a new boat best (i dont get on lake O much) made a couple passes on the way in and poped one more on a rigger on the way in that wanted to be on bottom under to boat even managed to wrap a rigger. all in all nice to get a king again i havent fished them since my dad sold his boat 15 years ago
  8. thats where the small boat is an advantage i keep it ready till the freeze hits than if it warms back up i can get it back running in a hour. last year i was fishing the south end of seneca in janurary still and had it back out for browns in march makes for a nice long season and definatly avoids the crowd
  9. anyone know what his hours will be for ice season buddy just bought a house on the lake i plan on doing all my icefishing there this year hate having to count on someone to bring minnows from roc
  10. its always fun in my little starcraft if the person driving isnt paying attention and you switch sides of theboat while setting it can make the thing turn and if there is a bit of wind you actully troll at a 45 degree angle to the direction the boat is pointing so the lines look like your doing circles and if your nnt used to it you will forever be trying to correct when your already straight. because I know this i have a lot of paitence for whoever is driving while i set but sometimes it is fun to tell them to look at the lines and make them straighten out
  11. having a self sustaining population of atlantics is not reasonable with the current conditions but neither is a self sustaining population of chinook. the difference is with chinook you get a higher survial and spawning attempt rate which gives you a promotable fishery. Atlantics have been stocked for a very long time but the catch rats have remained low likely due in part to the longer time they spend in the streams as juvies. there is probably some predation by the larger chinooks as well. interesting in the fingers the atlantics fair better in numbers despite shorter and smaller streams though the stocking is heavier. This indicates that interspecies predation may be a more signifigant factor than thought in lake O. however the money for stocking atlantics would dry up quick if there was not he promotable fishery for kings. In the end as with any biome a diverse range of species will make an overall health imporvement for all species
  12. hook injury followed by an infection is my guess it looks like the one margin is still red and oozing probably still an active infection that would spread and likely kill the fish in time. it happens just like with humans only fish dont get perscriptions for antibiotics. the wound could have been cause by a rock or zebramussle on bottom when the fish was digging up a meal as well
  13. on a similar thread i think the goby infestation could lead to some record lake trout catchs in 10-20 years you may see 40 pounders and they will get bigger as time goes on there are many mid to high teen fish and pleanty of 20s as well with the large easy to catch food supply there growing season will increase as they feed all fall winter and spring in the shallows. i would still rather have a chance to fish for kings but its cool to think that in my lifetime i may see a 50 or 60lb lake trout come out of the lake.
  14. alright just for fun has there ever been any research or thought on stocking kokanee. I know there little but they are very tasty and could provide just one more fishing option and with there ability to spawn in short streams or even just near shore once established they would be very cheap to maintain and provide yet one more alternate food sorce for bigger salmon and trout. also they will eat plankton so there is a possability they could help to curb the fleas. just a thought from some one who would love to be in the dec running the study
  15. im a weekend warrior but have tried many releases in my dads boat when i was a kid we had romers and walkers. now i have my own and have used walkers and romers (the same releases from my dads boat in the 80s in fact). i recently replaced the romer with a blacks and definatly think it is easier to use espeicially when leaning over. that being said the walker is still the best I can set it quick with one hand and it always works no twists no loops nothing to tangle and you can adjust the tension with ease. I dont see them around much anymore but if you see them they get my vote for what its worth.
  16. well after not getting a chance to get the riggers out for all of july finally got a day to get back on the water. decided to launch from sampson as i've never fished that area before. got there aroud 2:30 and definalty had our hearts set on some silverfish. headed right out over the open water looking for bait and started finding good pods of bait with fish. well we set up two riggers two cores a copper and one dipsey. the 4 color fired about 20 mins in and the fish was out of the water immediatly was a bow about 21 inches good start. went an hour before we had another release than we found a new pod and the 70 rigger pulling a blue dolphin goes its out of the water in a sec its a nice eater LL. just get set up and the same rigger goes again my turn this time and its got some good weight to it. maybe a nice laker maybe a brown stayed down and came unbuttoned after a couple mins. well setting that rigger down and as its passing 4 feet its out of the release and before i know whats up theres a land locked out of the water 3 feet behind the boat with my lure in its mouth. cool beans. set it down again and 20 mins later its up and a nice 5 lb bow is tail dancing for me. re set it had time for one more pass and sure enough same rigger fires again another 4-5lb bow. i've never really gotten into rainbows on seneca so it was a lot of fun. kept one LL and one bow that was bleeding out the rest swim again. looking forward to the next trip
  17. JD thats a fantastic Idea I will have to try that next time out for a fixed slider i usually only run one free slider because i almost always have a spin doc on one rigger and I hate when it twist with the slider this is a nice way around it though.

    BIG O

ah the fun of small boats and big water. watch the weather and get a smart phone so you check real time forcasts while your out there. trust in your engine is a must the farthur you go the more you have to know it will get you in I also fish a 14 footer but had an iffy 40 horse on it did not like to fish lake O i now have a 7 horse on it that it absolutly dependaple so i will fish lake O in the right condtions. check the reports and wait for the kings to come in close to the rivers thats when i look to get off of the fingers and back to Lake O than weather permitting you can fish it all fall even when the kings are done there are steelhead and browns around the river and creek mouths all through the winter and into spring. I like to keep the spinning rods in the car as a back up and you can always fish the bay or river for warm water species.
  19. sometimes at least in the finger lakes a Land lock or rainbow will hit the slider and be out of the water before you see the rod move. you gotta reel like hell and sometimes when you catch up the fish is 10 feet behind the boat and still green makes a hell of a mess if it can circle the dipsey than swing inside of your rigger cable. I also had a small land lock once eat both sliders on each of the rigger rods that was interesting.
  20. i like to help them repoupulate i always release twice as many as i catch
  21. i fish seneca where there is a push to harvest more to keep the numbers from stunting and I gotta tell ya those 6-7 lbs are very tasty my wife does a beer batter that she discovered this year and spring was one of the best fish frys i've ever had. Its good to let the biggest ones go but just like walleye those eather size ones are awesome table fare
  22. the three rod rule just opens up the options for us small boaters in some states you can fish a lot more than three per person to protect a fishery for numbers harvest limits and closed seasons are far more effective and if your worried about catch and release mortality thats when you have to look at terminal tackel thats why long liners now have to use circle hooks and thats where the debates about single hooks or treble hooks come from. the 3 rod limit ls really more neccessary for shore fishing where you could spread 50 lines for a boat you really are limited in what you can run unless you have a very large boat.
  23. is that an alpha alwae spoon i see in that pic? that spoon has been an all star so far this year for me. I'm gonna have to buy another round from flt before the fall
  24. it should be like ice fishing 5 junk lines and three rigger rods per person. I i could i would find a way to run a 25 rod spread
  25. its bad luck to kill a spider besides the bugs they eat are far worse than the spiders themselfs
