  1. When fishing is easy the learning curve often heads downward. The natural thing when fishing is way off is to figure you're screwing up somehow and it's YOU. Not necessarily the case and the actual reason may complicated and have absolutely nothing to do with you or what you are doing out there and it gets to all of us. We may be experiencing the usual June transition period a little early this year (and it isn't just Lake O) so hang in there
  2. Thanks Don Here is the website with the membership info: https://senecalake.org/
  3. After reading the article it just strengthens my view that the way in which hatchery raised fish ( perhaps lacking environmental awareness, or fear of predators), are being dumped during daylight hours in shallow areas of the lakes providing easy food for the cormorants and gulls is something that needs to be evaluated and changed to give these vulnerable immature, and inexperienced fish a better chance at survival and also save a lot of currently wasted money. At least no matter what the government decides the stocked fish wouldn't be as easy for those scummy things to grab.
  4. Samsen is quite a bit more roomy to navigate
  5. Or putting their canvas up or down in the middle of the ramp
  6. Good point that was the case with me in the past.
  7. You should be fine launching there pretty protected, can get to deep water fast and back off the lake in bad weather, some good spots nearby
  8. I know it isn't right in the Rochester area but if you don't find one I had this guy do it in the past and he was capable. http://www.fingerlakesboatrepair.com/
  9. You guys are too much. Yes Mike (s) fishing both derbies brother and my son with me. I think it may be a tough one but we're up for the challenge. Hopefully get a chance to see both you Mikes out there and good luck to you both Frogger you may want to check with Admiral Byrd on the donuts he likes to keep his in his live well and then forget and turn the water on :>)
  10. The issue often is sharpness of the hooks whether treble or single. With trebles the three prongs can work against each other in the hard part of the mouth/lip areas (gums) when pressure is exerted on it unless the hook gets further back in the mouth, The single has the advantage of more easily going deeper or to the side of the mouth. Orientation of the single hook on the lure, combined with type of hook point (e.g. upward facing point rather than the common downward position long needle sharp Mustad Stainless Siwash hook point). and hook sharpness will seldom lose fish. As mentioned release tension on rigger can be a factor as well as trolling speed. Take a look a some of the salmon underwater videos and notice that they frequently miss and make several attempts so it can also be possible that the fish doesn't actually grab the hook itself or may grab it in a soft tissue area that can break free. It pays to pay attention to small details like hook sharpness and hook orientation. Other than flies and stickbaits (very small trebles that don't present the same problems that large ones might) I have used the #9510xxx Mustad singles 2/0/3/0 for the last 40 plus years and seldom lose a fish.
  11. Nice going Krystian. You guys look like you had one hell of a good time

Says 125 Opti but pic is 135 hp Opti Boat looks good but I wish I had the barn
  13. Might have to try fishing a bit north as many fish migrate northerly at this time of year and out deeper as the bait moves to deeper water in many of the Fingers. They may still be in the upper portions of the water column but just out over deeper water and more scattered and harder to spot on fish finders as well.
  14. Yeah I had one years ago (Holsclaw) that broke right at the ramp in the late Fall and I had to walk to a marina and had to pay full new price for a used trailer because they had me and knew it. The old one rusted though from the inside and I never saw any sign of it beforehand and it broke in half. Next boat I paid for a galvanized trailer and never looked back.
  15. I've been a Lowance user for many years and their support is terrible and the menus are deeply nested so you have to search for things if not totally familiar with the options.
  16. I have never needed those type of services but the guy here in Canandaigua seems pretty busy with boat repairs http://www.bing.com/maps?q=boat+repair+caanandaigua+new+york&form=QBLH&sp=-1&ghc=1&pq=boat+repair+caanandaigua+new+york&sc=4-33&qs=n&sk=&cvid=DBCB388463FB4FCEB99204289D9D4525
  17. As Brian said one of the worst fears but from the looks of the pic "fixable" at least. I'd contact John Mann regarding the see through stuff and canvas. He is a great guy and I'm sure would be glad to help out as he is able with such a situation. Best of luck with it.
  18. If you still can't get it to function call Fishhawk . They are great about support for their products and Trevor Sumption the owner is a real good guy.
  19. It is perhaps not as intuitive as it should be. You may have to play around with the screens by activating the view and start buttons repeatedly until instead of temp it says depth and then hit start and you should be good to go. Mine is in the boat so I can't access it right now for the exact sequence. Just keep messing with the View button and you'll get it
  20. A couple things come to mind: a) the battery may be going...they say they are supposed to last for 5 years, and b) you may have one earlier than 2014? which could account for both.

  22. I agree.....hopefully things will improve like they did on Cayuga. Seneca is a tough old girl.
  23. Lets hope they can get it done but the article is certainly misleading in that it suggests that the lampreys will be "eliminated". Reduced in number is more like it providing the treatment can be carried out and is successful.
  24. + Best of luck with whatever you decide and although a move can be exciting it is also right at the top of life's stressors
  25. Aaron you may want to make up a list of pros (the things you want or need in a living place) and Cons (the things you absolutely don't want or need) e.g. you have young kids so school is important, you may want to eliminate urban environments, you may want to be near lakes etc. but also near shopping or medical services etc. Like cars and boats there is no PERFECT one out there and the decision involves compromises in terms of what is important at a given stage of your life circumstances and what you can afford financially and pretty much only you can answer that question.
