  1. Went out for a few hours this AM NW of I-Bay. One steelhead in 130 fow 60' down, but on the way back in found the hot spot directly N of the bay. 107 to 109 fow at 55-60' down hit 3 kings all on FF. It was hotter than blazes and I was on my way home but stuck it out for a while longer. All 3 kings were 12-14 lbs. All fish returned to Lake O for someone else in the future. 3. Great story Ric, even after 3 years I'm still on the learning curve too. The expertise on this board is invaluable.
  4. Yesterday morning was pretty good just due west of I-Bay in the 150-180 fow area.. Headed out at about 330 degrees on the compass and trolled from 100-200 fow. Action was 150-180 and 70' down. 2 nice kings, 8 and 16 lbs and a young steelie, all on copper/orange spoons. Good for only my 2 lines in the water. Surprising that there were not that many boats out.
  5. Yesterday I was hitting the kings in 150 to 180 fow, 70' down. This was just due west of I Bay, about 330 on the compass. Copper and orange spoons produced. Sent from my SM-T580 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  9. I-Bay 7/2, my 2 cents and a compass mishap. Saw a few good marks this morning about 2 miles west of Hedges in 160 FOW. Got several good hits, lost a screamer, but brought this one on board. 13lbs., 29". 90' down on a NK 28 UV green frog. Saw a few guys out in about 300' I would guess, just north of me, but the marks in 160' made me stick around. All action on spoons, not a hit on flasher/flies. BTW - had a strange thing happen over the last few days. The crown on my 3" Danforth Cruiser compass cracked or burst, from 17 years in the sun I guess, and leaked all the fluid from inside onto my dash. Ritchie seems like the best replacement piece. Electronics are great, but a good compass is hard to do without. Anybody ever have this happen? You can bet I'll keep the new compass covered when not in use.
  10. First real run this year. Answering the request for more posts .... took the real first run out on the lake last Sat. the 3rd from Mayer's Marina on I-Bay. It was pretty bumpy at about 8:00 and the lake settled down about 10:00 to 1 footers or less. Picked up a nice 2 year old king 90' down over 240' due NE from the bay. 21", 6.5lbs. Hit on a DW tiger spoon with gold back. Didn't think I'd need to get that far out to hit one. Had to head in after just the one. Very little temp difference in the water, 53.7 on the surface and it varied by about 0.5 down below 50'. Fish was returned (as usual) to make more fish. Happy fishing guys, a good stretch of weather is coming.
  11. Easy Troller trolling plate. $50 OBO. Standard size Easy Troller trolling plate for 50-300 HP motors. Works equally well on I/O as Outboards. Used one season only, then sold boat so it's no longer needed. It worked very well for me on a 3.0L Mercruiser with Alpha-One outdrive. The plate has a spring hinged bottom so if you forget to release it while it's down it will kick up out of the prop thrust so you don't bend the heck out of it. Comes with installation bolts and long release cord.
  12. Craig, it's most likely a noise created by the vibration of the cable as it is dragged through the water plus the effect of any wind. The combination creates a frequency you can hear. Unless you see visible wear on the cable I don't see a reason to replace it.Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  14. No matter what your opinion is of the lake fishing this season, here's a good reminder that we have great fishing opportunities here in NY. My daughter began fall classes in Oswego this week and was behind this Vermont car in traffic. I got a kick out of it, hope you do too.
  15. Just wondering if anyone in the armada between I-Bay and Hedges this AM had much luck. Marked quite a few lakers but no takers for my choice of spoons. Went out to 320 briefly and landed a 23" king about 110 down. Nice morning though. Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  17. Pete, thanks for the great video and instruction. I've seen several guys jigging out front of I-Bay and always wondered what's to it. I'm sort of new to lake fishing myself and think I'm going to have to give this a try based on what I learned from your video. Well done! Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. Thanks for the report for I-Bay. I thought I'd head out last night about 6:00 as the wind was fairly calm. Once I got out there the chop on top of 3' swells turned me back. Just didn't like the looks of the water at all.
  19. Trolled about an hour and a half tonight due NE out of I-Bay on a solo run. It was almost 8:00 and I was heading back in to call it a night. Caught a nice King in 230 fow, 85' down, using a gold/white spin doctor and a metallic green and white Atomik fly. Came in at 20.4 lbs and 35". Was also the first use of my GoPro camera so I could relive the fun.
  20. Had good luck this morning heading NE out of I-Bay 80-90 down in 220-280 fow. 2 nice steelies on a green/gold UV NK spoon and small king on a green/white fly with spin doctor. Also caught a headless seagull. Second steelie took the spoon line crossed over to the downrigger line with the fly and tangled it so bad the spoon line snapped. How that line stayed on the fly line I'll never know. Brought the fly line in up to the spinner and the last 40' of spoon line by hand. What a day! 21. Easy Troller trolling plate for sale. Very good condition. Used for about 3 months in 2014 on Mercury 3.0 with Alpha One outdrive and reached trolling speeds of 1.5 - 2 mph. No longer need it as sold that boat. $70 or best offer.
  22. Thanks for the report, I was heading out tonight in that same vicinity. It was nice meeting you this year. Have a good fall and winter, maybe we'll see you in the spring.
  23. Lined-out, nice fish. Must have been some excitement in that boat. Whereabouts were you fishing today? I was out all morning from I-bay to the river in about 85 fow and couldn't scare up a hit.
  24. Bob - try Factory Direct Trailers in Ontario, right on 104 East. I've purchased tires there for 2 boat trailers and their prices seem fair.
