  1. 300 weighted steel is going to be a really tight fit on a 45 size reel. If you're going to do that I would recommend using 30lb braid as backing but a 45 reel is better setup as a 200 copper/WS. You really need a 55 size for a 300 setup, I'd recommend a high speed reel once you get into 300 setups as well.
  2. I just picked up a set of Ziggy boards (copper version), ran them with a 10 color and 300 weighted steel and they ran very well. They make another even larger board they say will pull a 450 copper and several smaller versions as well. My only complaint is they don't have a flag and can be tough to see in the water sometimes but other than that they performed as advertised. https://www.hookeduptackleshop.com/boards-lights Doyouevenfishbro carries these as well, I messaged them on facebook and got quoted at $82 for the two copper boards with their "Zams Pro" releases (a knockoff of the Sams Pro release) and a set of back clips. They come with no front or back releases normally just fyi.
  3. I usually run meat on my deepest setup and spoons on the highest, you can mix it up in between.
  4. I have one of those EGO slider nets, I use it for walleye fishing. Not sure I would trust that plastic handle/hoop combo especially extended out on a 20lb+ salmon. I use a Beckman coated net, 26x34x32 hoop with a 6-9ft extendable handle. Plenty big enough for salmon and all metal hoop/handle works great... you can find them at fishusa for $100
  5. That about sums it up pretty well... I like glow colors early in the morning and then change up to more "flashy" colors as the day goes on. FF setups work well on longer copper lines as well.
  6. I sent a bunch of reels to Chris Kempf at Buffalo Reel Repair this spring. He did a very good job and it was a quick turn around, I wouldn't hesitate to use him again.
  7. I would take that "slow" day! I haven't gotten 6 bites in my last two trips combined...
  8. Still in storage? Available in spring? As in next spring? Last ad stated $9k for everything? If you really want to sell this you should put a little effort into your ads and stop copying your old ad from last fall with the wrong info in it.... or maybe answer PMs and emails.
  9. You ever try pouring water into the bilge while it was on the trailer (with the plug in) and see if you can find where water comes out? might help narrow down the location.
  10. I was there last weekend and water is still high, you will need boots. Still just the center two lanes on either side of the floating dock open. It's maybe gone down an inch or two since it's max but def still high.
  11. I used to run 10lb pancakes and was never able to mark the balls below 50ft... switched to 12lb torpedos and I'm good down to 90ft now. Same sonar unit for both setups.
  12. What brand riggers to you use? If you are running Cannons with auto-stop the braid will disable the auto stop. You need the conductive cable on cannons, once the cable breaks the surface it disconnects the circuit stopping the motor.
  13. What size/shape rigger balls are you using? Heavier weights in torpedo shape will cutdown on blowback and could help bring the balls back into your sonar cone.
  14. I was out this am in Mexico. Few fleas about 1% of what it was like at this time last year. Last 4th of July I was pulling lines every 20 mins or fleas would build up so bad they would pop my rigger releases. All I saw today were clustered around my copper/backing knots and swivel knots. I’ll take that anyday compared to last year! on the other hand I caught fish last 4th of July... today I did not. Super slow, marked no bait and only a few fish.
  15. I run inlines and thought the same thing, until I put Sam's Pro releases on my boards. With the front clip releasing via the SP release there is no more fighting the board + fish, that in combo with high speed reels for my longer weighted steel setups was a game changer for me.
  16. might want to include a price... just fyi
  17. Well that is good to know, but I still don't think that it what he is talking about. I believe he has 1200' of 7 strand SS wire not weighted steel.
  18. If you're talking about the same steel wire you use for dipsey divers then it won't get you anywhere near the depths of copper. WEIGHTED steel on the other hand will get close to copper depths but I don't think that is what you have.
  19. If you already have WS backed with wire and it works well why would you want to use and unproven method of copper backed with wire? Why not just use 200ft WS and 300ft wire instead of a 500 copper? I believe 45# WS and #45 copper have similar sink rates but not quite exactly the same. So even if you did 400 of wire behind 200WS to compensate for that, it would still be a lighter and easier to handle than 500 copper.
  20. single loop surgeon's knot. Doesn't look like much but it works very well, have wire diver setups going on 4+ years with this knot and no issues.
  21. I would avoid copper and planer boards until you had the basics down. The basics are riggers and braid dipsey divers imo. Copper can tricky to work with sometimes with its tendency to kink, not to mention a copper setup is only good for 1 specific depth. The two easiest to learn and most versatile techniques are downriggers and dipsey divers. Braid dipsey setups can easily pull double duty as flat lines in spring and allow you to fish pretty much anytime of year.
  22. Check craigslist near sodus for some used manual crank downriggers, you can pick up while you’re here. No need to wire your boat for electric riggers for just a single trip a year. Get yourself a couple dipsey divers and a couple reels with braid for them. I fished my first two years on the lake running just two riggers and two dipsey setups. Caught plenty of fish running just 4 lines.
