It’s taking over Salmon Creek. 4 foot long root system the one i checked.

water chestnut the seeds get a spike on them and it can and will go through a sandal or sneaker unfortunately i know this the hard way.

It’s water chestnut, which is an invasive species here in NY. You can report it to your local invasive species management office, here: https://fingerlakesinvasives.org/staff/. They might be able to assist with removal.
