I switched to double singles after losing a few fish to line break at the leader and being completely baffled on how a 40# flouro leader could get cut at the back of the boat without getting hung up in anything.  I came to the conclusion that the line got caught in the middle of the treble and sheared off.  One type of hooks I was using it was pretty easy to cut heavy line that way.  Another kind of hook not so much.  Are folks using double singles due to the treble cutting the line or because less fish come unbuttoned?  Seems like it might help with both......  Is epoxy the solution to line cut or fish being unhooked?  Or both?

Thanks!

I always used a drop of epoxy in between the trebles to avoid the leader getting wedged in there and breaking while battling salmon. This was a problem with the 2x owners I always ran and the JB weld prevented this. Always worked for me and I'm of a mindset if it ain't broken don't fix it. LOL

Switch to good quality single hooks in the 0/ sizes and avoid the problem. I switched over about thirty five years ago all my spoons (thousand  or more) but  leave the existing hooks on sticks and never looked back. I use hardened trebles on my flies and again no problems.
