Looking for ideas on putting two EasyTroll Cannon hand cranker downriggers on this 188 Hurricane Sundeck boat. Short booms, maybe 24"s or rod holder ideas too

Tried rail mounts, the rails on these are so small in diameter nothing holds.

Tring to get back to some recreation trolling from the sun crusier on Seneca!20260610_085624.thumb.jpg.fb7d3ec505aafac860e689c7c674fef6.jpg20260610_085624.thumb.jpg.fb7d3ec505aafac860e689c7c674fef6.jpg20260610_085624.thumb.jpg.fb7d3ec505aafac860e689c7c674fef6.jpg

Excuse my lousy computer artwork...... Perhaps mount 2 sections of track in the RED areas I drew in, you could come up with risers and put a trolling board across the back..... Slide the entire assembly out of the track for pleasure cruising.  They make rubber inserts to fit in the empty track... kind of turns it into a step pad...

Something like this....

I like that!

I will have to do a little measuring and check access

I'm also thinking mounting on those hatches that open, putting a fastenter(s) on them to keep them closed

I would just use risers to get above the cushions and mount them back as far as possible, and use a board to go across the back and mount riggers, and go with a good, solid adjustable rod holder. I use the Cannon single axis ratcheting holders for walleye fishing on Erie. But you have a great selection of adjustable holders that don't ratchet, but I wouldn't use anything else.

Hopefully you have access to the underside of those areas so you can reinforce them as there can be a lot of torque with riggers and weights etc. although it will be somewhat distributed with a board approach. Best of luck with it. It is always fun when those customizations work out. Make sure to carefully think it through in terms of when everything is one there including downrigger and rod clearances etc. It can help to try a mock up positioning of your stuff before actually finalizing.

Having coffee this morning, thinking about your rigging issue.... Again excuse my lousy drawing skills...

Taking flush mount rod holders, either 30 or 45 degrees, whichever matches the angle on the boat better...  you could drop gimbal mounts in backwards in the rod holders and mount a trolling board across..

A rod holder like this.....

Mounted on your boat something like this, match the angle of the curve...

Then drop in gimbal mounts backward, or use a 90 degree gimbal to make the mounting surface level and put a board across the back

Maybe a flat 90 degree gimbal mount is better ??

Lots of good ideas here. Whatever you decide, temporarily set in place the downriggers where they will go or at the very least  go through the motions of pretending to work them in all there functions. What you don't want is to be leaning uncomfortably toward the back of the boat always to work them, especially in rough water. Position them so they are comfortable to access and work with...Cheers!

It looks like the gimbal mounts on my Hurricane Fun Deck are mounted where you have cup holders on yours.  You might be able to remove the cup holders and replaces them with gimbal mounts.  If the gimbal mounts don't cover the hole because it may be too large you could use a piece of starboard to cover the hole and then mount the gimbal holder to the starboard?

If you do this make sure you get a quality gimbal that is designed to take the stresses a downrigger will put on them.  I've seen Hurricanes with riggers mounted on the swim platforms and it is a long reach to set lines.

Thats what i see too

Nothing looks simple or conventional

One good spot, matching on both sides, to put flush mounts and gimbals but getting to the rods, setting lines etc looks brutal

Then the angle of cable in turns and stuff is right in the prop

So this may turn into a dipsey boat, no riggers

No way i can give up a cup holder for a rod holder.....

Its a party boat
