California Osprey Eagle

Recommended Posts

My fishing partner and I where catching Kings off the boards, when we noticed a pair of Osprey circling above us at about 50'. Then one of the two dove down and turned and hit Dales Chartreuse Yozuri 100' back off the tow line feet first, taking another 150' to 200' of line and the fun began. Dales rod was bent like he had a 40 Lb ocean run King on and no control of the bird. With a lure stuck in his/her foot circling the boat at about 10' off the water wrapping up 6 rods, antenna and mast on the bow of the boat he/ she circled the boat about 23 times before falling into the lake. Once the lure was taken out of his/her foot, I placed the net under he/her and walked he/her to the bow of the boat and away from us. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Awesome Stan  I can't believe you were able to unhook it. Must of taken awhile to straighten out the tangles.

Man, you got some real challenges fishing out there in Cali Stan!!!...fishing for kings 250 feet down, catching birds, getting tangles beyond FUBAR!...I have had pelican caught on my bunker being tossed to the surf, those are not fun :( ....last ice season I was out on Hemlock and watched a Bald Eagle come down and steal a guys trout sitting on the ice  . Cool pics of a bird we don't have here...but I ride in an Aquasport OSPREY 8) ....Thanks for sharing Stan!

WOW....congrats on the successful release with no bloodshed from either party. Ospreys tend to lose their sense of humor when they are reeled in with a hook stuck in their foot. They are one of the coolest raptors to observe hunting. Good job and great pics.

Decided to beat the wave forecast and headed out at sunrise. Decided to head offshore while the lake was calm and just let the waves push us in. Set up west of the nose at 31 line and it was pretty bleak. Went an hr and half before the first small steelhead hit a cheater on a 70 rigger. From there we maintained a south troll all the way in to 90fow picking away at steelhead and 2 yr olds. Mix of FF off riggers and dipsy, J plug in the 400 copper , and cheaters all took something. We never really

Quick report . Boated around 20 fish. Nice steelhead and piles of kings in the 12-15lb range. Best depth 500-570 mostly spoons off riggers cheated, dipsy with FF took a couple. Trying to get back out in the morning.     Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

    • Trolling out of Bald Eagle?

First time attempt at trolling outside of Bald Eagle tomorrow. Just wondering what depth of water would be good for this time of year? If anyone wants to give a few tips to a newbie, I'd be very grateful. Thank you and good luck!

Fished 6-9 am   100fow had marks but nothing.   200 fow. was reeling in a copper w a j-plug and got a hit - salmon. Broke the copper rod on the net so sent the plug down on the rigger and got a second salmon. No marks but did 2 fish. Turned in waves were on the edge for the old 16.   Spoons and FF did nothing.           Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Today was the last leg of the of Bald Eagle Series. With the forecast I almost pulled the plug not wanting to get thrown around for 7 hrs in a tin boat, but fishing is like crack so we headed out. Broke the pier heads at 515 to an angry Lady O at 3-5 footers. Original plan was work offshore to get our three majors then grind the inside for upgrades. With the wind out of the north that 13 mile run went to the back burner real quick. We set up just east of the nose in 50fow sliding out. Immediatel
