Lake Levels

I had an interesting conversation today with Howard Goebel, who is the Canal Hydrologist in charge of lake levels here on Cayuga Lake. He said that the lake is "right at the targeted level" for this time of year, and he is not at all worried about their ability to bring it up according to their target rule curves. He forwarded some information that I found interesting and thought that all of you might like to see. The first is a link to current water levels for Cayuga, Seneca, & Oneida Lakes. Select the lake of your choice to open a graphic that illustrates the daily water levels this year with the target rule curves for each lake. The water levels from last year are also provided on this graphic for comparison purposes. These graphics are normally updated weekly on Thursday mornings, but he updated them this morning so the most recent information is available.

It is amazing what a difference that extra 3 inches makes. And I am talking the lake level!

Thanks Billy. I had my finger on the keyboard several time but was hesitant to start a post about being able to launch boats by the end of March. If all goes according to the graph Cayuga should be up another 2 1/2 feet by April 1st.

I'll feel better when I start seeing fish reports and launch conditions on Cayuga again.

Sorry Lil Jake - I don't have any news on the launch there. Next time I'm on that side of the lake I'll stop and take a look at it though.

The channel is being dredged.The launch will stay closed thru at least the weekend.....Zeke and Cyn(Strike 3)

I've used the Treman launch regularly in all seasons for quite a few years. If the lake level is normal for this time of year, then the bottom must have come up some! In no other years have I been unable to launch.

Thanks Copper'. Looks like the lake is about 5' lower than it's normal summer levels.

You think that there will be a "No Wake " restriction this spring?

I Heard through the grapevine, Sunday, that the gate is closed and Cayuga is coming up. Supposedly around six inches already. If this is true It should not be long until levels are up . Hope this info is correct. Any one else hear anything?

Yes the lake is coming up. Slowly. My lifts 2 weeks ago were dry, now they are wet. However still a long way.to go. Id say we are at normal winter pool now.
