Requirement to get a captains license?

Recommended Posts

Pleasure unit,

The best advice i can give you is to go through a captains course like the one offered by Sea tech marine training. If you have your mind set in getting your license than its really the best way to do it. Youll learn that there is alot to it and they will walk you through the process from start to finish. http://www.seatechmarinetraining.com/

heres a list of requirements:

red cross cpr certified

red cross first aid certified

character references- http://www.seatechmarinetraining.com/docs/character.pdf

drug test

sea service form- http://www.seatechmarinetraining.com/do ... vessel.pdf

physical- http://www.seatechmarinetraining.com/do ... ysical.pdf

pass exam

application - http://www.seatechmarinetraining.com/do ... cation.pdf

Hope this helps!

The above links provide some great information. I would also recommend Mariners School.

The sea service time required is: 90 days in the last three years, either offshore or inland and a total of 360 days of sea time since the age of 15. The hardest part of this is ofcourse documentation. If you don't or have not kept a log book, it is tough to go back. I would encourage all youngsters to keep a log, even if it's a rough log; you never know when you are going to need it.

Honestly do not waste you time on a log book. It's not that big of a deal. If you become a captain and start running trips then keep one. I have the piece of paper in front of me that you have to fill out to get your license and its nothing. I just finished all my schooling and tests a month or 2 ago and its all fresh.

Greg,

It is 13 pages long. I copied a couple extra sets if you want a set of them no problem. PM me as we live close. I am in the process of re-newing again. Plus i can show you my previous re-newals filled in, if your interested. And I just finished the T.W.I.C. identification card deal you would need also to enter secured ports (Rochester-Oswego). Boy don't get me going on everything else!
