Well done! It's taken a few years and many obstacles had to be overtaken but the Irond" creek restoration efforts are paying off. It's a shame that the Sandy fishermen have been so negative towards any restoration thoughts of Sandy creek.

Yes Irondequoit creek is currently being studied with electro shocking events by region 8 where with help from Seth Green TU we’ve discovered significant wild reproduction of brown trout and steelhead. The studies have been done in late summer early fall so not in the time frame to find wild chinooks but surely the salmon are successful spawning in Irondequoit creek. This creek does stay open even through the harshest winters with its steeper gradient that keeps water moving. TU has worked with Monroe county parks and towns bordering the creek to maintain wood in the stream. Our “Wood Is Good” program has enhanced not only cover and protection for par trout and salmon but also promotes better bug life. Where once towns and the parks department would remove trees that feel into the stream they now leave them as long as they won’t promote flooding and where canoe and kayakers can portage around wood in the stream.

Personally , I think this is BS question. The problem as I see it with a lot of this Gov assistance is it is enabling people to seek the assistance instead of pulling themselves up by their bootstraps . And bleeding hearts perpetuate it . Yes some are truly in need of it but there are an awfull lot that use it as a means to survive so they don't have to work. And I have seen this with my own eyes . I have friends that hate Trump . Blame him for a lot of what is their own decision making for many years . Spent their money on frivolous stuff with no thought of the future . The US is supposed to be the land of opportunity, not the land of equity we are turning into . All men are created equal . But that changes as their lives go on . Work hard , be smart and with some luck you can have a better life than those who choose not to .

This Afternoon I was walking my dogs along the creek in the Spring Lake dog park and as my golden retrievers always do, they jumped into the creek to play and swim. Then I saw them. A school of about 20 kings spawning in the gravel near the rifles. Me retrievers saw them too and they started running back and forth trying to push them into narrow shallows, but they were not very successful. It was for me the clearest proof that I-Creek is a natural reproduction creek. The thing that most impressed me is that these kings were a lot bigger than the ones I saw in the Altmar hatchery a few days ago. This is probably because of the wholesale slaughter taking place in the Salmon River, but I am silently hoping that I-Creek holds a genetic group that is larger than the ones in the Salmon River. Either way, it is very special to see nature in action in a creek that has come back from terrible pollution and is now clean and alive again,

Without outing anyone, I have had numerous LOU folks fish with me that are the polar opposite of me regarding politics. Some even sport bumper stickers lol (Bob). Humanity isn’t divided by political views. That being said the “tolerant” side is much more prone to not wanting to break bread or lend a hand with those that don’t share their perspective.

The mass exodus from NYS has been going on since Mario Cuomo . He tried to tax the hell out of businesses in NY . The Cariolinas said come on down boys and we won't tax you for 10 years , and low and behold , amazingly , they left. My son lives in NC and I'm amazed at the amount of money and growth there is there. Property tax is 1/10 of what it is here . So you can't blame Trump for the woes of NY State . And now we have a commie telling the public the man is keeping you down and owes you free everything . And we are a sanctuary state housing , feeding and paying illegals. Just think how far that 8 billion Kathy sent as a bail out to NYC would go upstate . More cops , teachers , Game Wardens for a few . The state is circling the drain . And Kathy is at the helm , siding and paling up to a commie. So why not vote for a new Gov . What have we got to loose ?

Many of the state cutbacks are actually a TRICKLE DOWN EFFECT due the current administration's poorly thought out Federal program terminations and cutbacks in favor of corporate greed and power. A lot of this is because we have too much corporate entanglement of the federal government on both sides of the aisle, in Washington as well as in the States. DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS MUST WORK TOGETHER TAKE OUR FEDERAL AND STATE HOUSES BACK, BY TELLING OUR LEADERS TO WORK FOR ALL OF US, AND/OR BY ELECTING NEW LEADERS TO WORK FOR US ALL INSTEAD OF THEMSELVES AND THE BILLIONAIRE CLASS. Many of the DECs programs rely on Federal funds that come from multiple federal programs. They also rely on cooperative partnerships with many of those federal agencies. Starting with DOGE and continuing with direct cuts from the Whitehouse, many of the programs that support those efforts were cut, along with Fed funds to support the state(s) efforts toward those programs. So, for many of the programs, if the Feds stop providing fiscal and/or logistical support for them, the State is unable to continue or fully support them. This is true for water, air, wildlife, health, disaster and all other major life support issues. Malevolent corporate greed has been slowly changing the narrative away from these issues in favor of wall street. Wall street investors have been tripping over themselves trying to grab up pieces of the Crypto and AI waves that have yet to (and may never) acquire a steady footing. Meanwhile, AI companies and Wall Street investors are scrambling to stay ahead of the game without causing any major corrections digital wildfires or societal meltdown. These are things that can only be effectively dealt with at the federal level. BUT WE NEED HOUSE AND SENATE RULES REPAIRS. NAMELY LOBBYING AND CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM. WITHOUT THAT, OUR DEMOCRACY WILL WHITHER AWAY.

I agree that the fall fishing for king salmon in NY is just a thug fest. Couple of things I know are true. There is natural reproduction in every south shore trib that maintains even low glows. I can show you the wild fish in every local trib in the spring. There are study’s that were done years ago that proved it. One was a shore line netting event off our Sandy creek DEC recovered lots of wild smolts. Fishing the Oak in March all I have to do is look behind my footsteps and I have schools of wild kings eating the invertebrates I’m kicking up. Right now there is a huge return to Irondequoit creek. They’ve never been stocked there. Are they strays from the genny. Probably some but we now have proof Irondequoit has habitat to raise wild browns and also steelhead. The reason kings can and do survive dozens of other streams besides the Salmon River is these fry are hatched in February and March and leave the streams in April and early May before those waters become lethal. the Hatchery once again has easily achieved their egg take. In the spring DEC runs a two month seining study on the salmon river. They capture between 7 to 20 million successfully hatched par. The event starts early April and runs to the end of May. You could never have the lake fishing success that’s going on without a huge influx of wild fish. The Genny is loaded right now like I haven’t seen in a long time. We’ve had several colder long springs lately that keep stream temps down longer and is allowing greater escapement of par and smolts to the lake. if we never stocked another salmon. They are here forever. Now the only way to curb the thuggery is to get to the state legislature and try and get stiffer penalties. DEC makes regulations not penalties. I’ve spent over 25 years fishing and traveling in Alaska. Now Alaska does have lining and netting of salmon for indigenous and Alaskan citizens but if you break the laws there you are going to jail. Same for Canada and many of our western states. I see all the disgusting posts on line of the law breakers. Some ahole talked about he and his crew hooking 300 salmon. I talked to CO’s the past two weeks. Of course they are overwhelmed but are still trying to do their best. There were three officers down on the Genny last week. The cool thing about the Genny is everyone was fishing legal float fishing with bait or beads. Hopefully they all had licenses. Last week I saw this group of “Eastern Europeans” catch about a 20” steelhead. It was their intention to kill that fish. I climbed out of the river and told them the fish wasn’t legal. Of course they didn’t know the steelhead regs but when I conned them in that there were three cops up in the parking lot and once they walked out with this dink on a stringer they better have $250 in cash on hand. They quickly put the fish back. The answer isn’t to shut down the river. The DEC will shut down the fly zone in low water which gets the fish to beaver dam Brook. If you don’t know, thousands of kings move all night long and make their way to the hatchery, Night poachers. DEC is now using drones with night vision cameras and have arrested several people illegally fishing after dark. It is disgusting what goes on but it’s going on at 18 mile. The Oak, Oswego, the black river, Irondequoit. I was at Sandy yesterday catching migratory brown trout. The four or five guys I ran into had enough weight on their rods to anchor the Yankee Troller. I took the time to rerig their rods. Gave them flies I was catching fish on and recited the regs for stream trout and salmon. Unfortunately it’s education to a few at a time. I love to swing streamers for kings. And I know many others that fish legally and ethically for salmon. The answer isn’t to punish everyone. We could organize as concerned anglers and get time with DEC and our elected officials. Snagging, lining flossing lifting is illegal. It’s also stealing our resources. I’m happy to get involved. Who else is?
