  1. With the weather as good as its ever been in March, I was ahead of schedule on getting the boat ready for the season. On friday (with help from Scott from Silverfox), we launched the boat, took a quick cruise out of the creek, and tied her off to her summer home. This morning I was itching to get the boat out on the water make sure everything was working (and of course get a few lines wet too). We were only out for an hour or so but we did pull our first fish of the year, a brownie, from the plume out in front of the creek. With the lack of rain, the shallows lacked color and were pretty clear for the most part. Saw 4 boats out in the lake along with a couple fishing in the creek. Im hoping to get on the water next weekend and troll the shallows a little bit more. Let the fishing season begin!
  2. Recieved this email last night from the Sandy Creek pen rearing coordinator Bob Holden. The DEC is ahead of schedule and wants us to recieve our fish early so it changes our schedule completely.
  3. heres some good reading: http://www.invadingspecies.com/Invaders ... Page&PID=8
  4. I started tying my own flies about 4 years ago. While I believe that in the long run it may save you some money, in the short term it doesnt. Its fun to do and you will get some satifaction out of catching fish on your "product". A couple of places to check out would be http://www.atommiktrollingflies.com/ and http://www.purpletacoflysupply.net/ Truth is... soon youll find yourself completely addicted and tying up an unbelievable amount of flies.
  5. Those spoon colors are down right ugly... but you know they will put some brownies on board.
  6. What did you think of the "garden of eden"? Other than that there are some great bars in Key West!
  7. Very nice post! You just cant go wrong with the blacks releases. I havent used the chamberlains so I cant speak for them. The Legendary Products Elberta Clip'er is simple to use and works great for fixed sliders. Roemer also makes the "liberator" fixed slder thats works great too. Both of them work great for mupped rigs. I dont stack my riggers to much anymore but when I do I use the roemers. I have offshores on the boat too but I prefer the adjustability of the roemers. With offshore releases they have a snap swivel that attaches to the downrigger cable, then you take one of the pinch pads and place that on the downrigger cable where you want it, then place your line in the other pinch pad, and your fishing.
  8. For chasing browns you can get away with anything from 8-15#. Things will get real exciting when you hook into something else when fishing really light line.
  9. spring- kevorkian- NK dl 28 summer- Nbk- Stinger fall-red headed silver bullet!
  10. Tournament ties all the way! Personally I have seen improved hook ups since I started using them.
  11. pleasure unit, that other post that tom mentioned should help. Water depth is not a problem in the creek or in marinas. The bridge is the only real restriction but I would say bridge clearance is about 12' (It has been known to shorten some outriggers). Plenty of room for most boats!
  12. It sounds similar to ice fishing for motorcycles on I-Bay
  13. Gene, first or second week of april
  14. Pleasure unit, The best advice i can give you is to go through a captains course like the one offered by Sea tech marine training. If you have your mind set in getting your license than its really the best way to do it. Youll learn that there is alot to it and they will walk you through the process from start to finish. http://www.seatechmarinetraining.com/ heres a list of requirements: red cross cpr certified red cross first aid certified character references- http://www.seatechmarinetraining.com/docs/character.pdf drug test sea service form- http://www.seatechmarinetraining.com/do ... vessel.pdf physical- http://www.seatechmarinetraining.com/do ... ysical.pdf pass exam application - http://www.seatechmarinetraining.com/do ... cation.pdf Hope this helps!
  15. I dont think theres a "wrong" way to run this rig. It has produced for me in all combinations. Ive run it with a small spoon on top w/ a larger on the bottom, large spoon up top w/ smaller spoon on the bottom, same size spoon top and bottom.
  16. maybe this will help alittle: http://www.luhrjensen.com/downloads/tec ... tDiver.pdf
  17. And to add to the story because nothing can be easy... When we returned to the launch and we fished out the license plate that had broken off, who was waiting for us on land? A DEC officer and park police officer wanting to do a safety equipment check on the boat, wanting to see some licenses, etc. Never a dull moment!
