  1. Sometimes when I fish alone I put little bells on the tip of my brown rods ,so I can concentrate on steering my rig as close to shore as possible without falling out of line
  2. Any cod or striper fisherman will readily tell you that this is the reason why god gave us thumbs. You can have the drags replaced or do it yourself, all the spare parts are still easily available
  3. One is a Grady White the other a Bayliner with a Force engine. The only thing in favor of the Bayliner is that it has an outboard even if it is a Force. If the Grady had an outboard, the Grady would be my favorite.
  4. I once tried to make a "modern version" Victrola using an 18 volt drill with a reel. It worked real well except that when it started rolling up the wire, it gave such a strong initial pull that it jerked out of my hand into Owasco Lake. So if any of you guys pulls out an 18 volt Dewalt drill with a copper spool on it , it's mine.
  5. I have a couple of 49 super mariners that I used when going deep down shark fishing. They are strong and hold a lot of line. Once you are used to them ,you will see how you can let line out in a very controlled way. They are very good when fighting a big fish who wants to stay down, or hauling up heavy cod. For salmon fishing they are not so great
  6. In Quabbin Reservoir in Massachussets these regulations have been strictly enforced for well over 20 years and today there still are no zebra mussels in the reservoir. Over there, unless you have a Quabbin sticker you will have to have your rig steam cleaned before you can enter the water
  7. What does it do??? It makes the lakers hear their masters voice!!!
  8. Do not split it. Use all 10 colors with some backing and some leader. Its great for laker fishing. Use 30 feet of 12 pound leader for lakers.
  9. Any 4stroke outboard can run on propane. You will have to change the carburetor or injector system. If you are so inclined you can even make it a multi fuel engine. Don't try it with a 2stroke because the engine will set up. It is not very popular in the US because there is not much price difference between the 2 fuels, but in Europe where lpg is about 30% cheaper than regular gas, a large percentage of cars and boats have changed over and plenty of gas stations are equiped to fill lpg fuel tanks the same way you fill your gas tank
  10. Please keep assistance to politicians of any color OFF this board.
  11. I picked one up from the Amish outfitters table at the lotsa expo for $15 just last week. It is not exactly what you want because the closed cell ones have a hard back. The one that I bought is a soft thick foam that is soft enough to roll up if you really want to.
  12. That is the north side of the hole. It's a great place with very steep drop offs. Leave some for me!
  13. Were you over the hole just due east of the point?
  14. Look into crowd sourcing.
  15. The problem with almost any fish finder that you can find is the "gain" or sensitivity. What is great for trolling at 3mph is just snow at 10 mph. The moment you go into search mode you have to turn down your gain because at higher speeds you get way to much info streaming onto your screen and all you see is snow and a million fish. which may in fact be very accurate information but at the same time way too much information.
  16. A Queen has a 68 inch wide and 20 inch high transom. It is rated for a 80 horse engine and and a 1524 pound overall load. I think that you are ok by just leaving everything in the back. With the closed bow ,you want to keep as much open space as you can. Besides, your flotation material (if it is stiill there) is styrofoam. Styrofoam does not like gasoline. It will melt on contact.
  17. I do suspect that those 17 fish included smelt or alewives. Or maybe a bit of fishermans latin.
  18. I may be interested inyour boat. Can you pm me a few pics ,so I can get a rough idea what I would be dealing with?
  19. I have 4 of them. They are great!! They work good with 8 colors + backing.10 colors is pushing it.
  20. Congratulations. Enjoy your retirement. Heck,I'll buy you some Danish beer.
  21. If it is a 15 inch transom, you can put the tanks near the bench. If it is a "luxury" rig with 2 front seats, put them just behind the seats. Since you run a 50 horse merc it may very well be a 20 inch transom in which case I would just change the angle of that engine a bit so she goes down and on plane a bit faster.Just don't over do it because she will stick her bow into the waves instead of over them Is this a Monaco 16?
  22. I must admit guilt. Sometimes, trolling 10 miles off shore at 2.9 mph I will uncork one and slowly slurp it up.I don't think that I am the only guilty one on this board. That would be Sam Adams Boston lager or Octoberfest.
  23. It does not matter which one goes where, but the original setup is with the air supply (just the hose)coming down from starboard/stern into the doghouse/bilge and the air suction with the blower attached to the wood of the transom so that it sucks the air out of the doghouse/bilge and blows it to the port side outlet. Just take a piece out to see what diameter hose you have and go to a marine supply store to buy about 5 feet for each side. This ventilation system is not only required by law,it can and does prevent onboard fires and explosions.
  24. Reelxite you've got mail
  25. Thanks for the eh compliment. I served in the middle east for almost 30 years and did live in Scandinavia for a while. I must say that I do prefer Norway to Denmark
