  1. When you looked at the inside rim and see it brown you learned way back when not to over do it with the grease gun. I have used both brown and blue grease, there is no need for lithium grease. I inspect bearings by spinning the tires a couple times a year-for the past couple years I have been launching forty or fifty times a year or more and have not had a problem. Being around boat trailers for nearly four decades I have only known of two failures in my immediate family and friends trailers, one with the bearing nut tightened too tight and one just a bearing failure. I have had more bearings fail on my current Trailblazer than on any trailer I have owned.
  2. that must be the reason why some vehicles like roll-off units have not for hire on the side, those that belong to an individual for their own use etc.
  3. I made this attempt in 2004, not tackle specifically but sports equipment and the like. It was in Western New York. You need to invest a lot of money to get your store looking customer friendly and unique. The market is tough and margins aren't that great. Captains Cove has been for sale for over a year and Narby's has had to have been on the market for a number of years(I am thinking close to a decade or more). That would give me pause. If you want to send a pm, would be happy to discuss.
  4. My understanding is that it only applies to commercial applications in NYS. The guys I know that have numbers are commercial contractors for example.
  5. in the 20-22 range in the past twenty years, most around here are Crestliners, Lunds, and Starcrafts. There were also Sylvans, Smokercrafts and some Sea Nymphs. And on the rare occasion, Grumman and Princecraft.
  6. Have posted on this before. I have used a regular Mariner 9.9 on a 23 Grady White Gulfstream for the past four years. It is the wide body 9 ft wide one. Have used this on Lake Erie and have never had to use the big motor to keep up. Has pushed it all over the lake in all kinds of water-have also had to use it to come in, in an emergency. Keep in mind the Hydra Sports has a little more weight so it is not riding high and pushed by the wind. You could use your 15 four stroke of the Crestliner with no issues. Years and years ago Trailer Boats did a test on outboards 6-9.9 mounted on brackets there was very little difference in terms of mph on top end speed. I have not been on a boat with a high thrust so I can't comment on it.
  7. For what it is worth I have used a 9.9 Mariner 4-stroke on a 23 Grady White Gulfstream, the wide body(over 9 ft wide) and it has pushed that boat all over Lake Erie in all kinds of wave action-never have had to start the big motor to assist-so I 9.9 HT should work fine.
  8. no snow yet so still accessible-drained lower unit and re-filled for the winter. back to the top.
  9. I never was a vendor there but I can say this even 4 or 5 years ago, shows like this were costly for the vendors to attend and were questionable as to whether you covered costs. The economy for retailers has been tough since 2005, when gas crossed $3.00 per gallon the first time.
  10. Cranking battery will work fine-as described you have nothing which is a significant drain like an electric motor.
  11. willing to deal on this-back to the top
  12. I have used a short shaft on several boats, including a starcraft with a similar set up to your Crestliner. You are not using the kicker to put the boat on plane, so shaft size is irrelevant. I concur with Ray above on wavy days it will the prop will come out of the water. Your short shaft will always hold its value and use it while you wait the proper long shaft if you eventually choose to upgrade.
  13. I concur with the above statement-it is also critical that you get the anti-freeze circulated through the engine and make sure there are no hidden areas where water gets trapped. Otherwise you are looking at major dollars in engine block or manifold repairs.

  15. Sold 12/10/11 1987 Mercury 90 Hp Long Shaft with power trim has blown power head. Motor will turn a little than lock up. Taken to local Mercury dealer who figured it was a connecting rod-was not pursued any further. Oil injection was functioning up until that point. Good lower unit, power trim unit other motor parts. Motor is good cosmetically. $750.00 or best offer-at the moment still hooked up and on the boat. Serial number OB152836 model number 1090727 Motor is located in Dunkirk NY
  16. Spent this weekend fishing the upper basin, Dewittville bay, Mayville shore, west shore in front of Camp Merz. All kinds of perch, sunfish etc. Using worms fishing just off the bottom in 12-20 ft of water. Would be a good last of the season trip to take a kid on and enjoy.
  17. The V-4 Evinrudes and Johnsons may have been the best motors ever produced, and parts are readily available. I have just purchased my first four stroke this summer, a used 90 Mercury, it is sweet. I have a couple small evinrudes from the 70's which are great motors and will probably run well for another couple decades. OMC and Mercury tweaked their two strokes over the years so they are still relatively fuel efficient. OMC got in trouble when the bankruptcy hit and produced a lot of bad product from 1999 til the ETEC era. Costs were cut and corners were cut as well.
  18. Use your head in terms of thinking safety and don't take unnecessary risks, pick your days and you will be fine.
  19. Make sure all the connections on the path from the motor to the controls are connected they might have loosened up and that will cause it to beep-had that happen to me. I would also fill the container on the engine also-my Mercury would start to beep with a lot left.
  20. I think you are going to find DFI means some type of direct fuel injection which is the way the industry is going as well as the auto-industry(cars like the new Chevy Equinox and the Cadillac CTS)
  21. based on my own experience on a similar sylvan-top speed mid to upper 30's.
