  1. are you only looking for new? for around 100 you can usually get some pretty decent reels used. just have to keep an eye on the ad's and its a good reason to go to flea markets. Personally i like diawa for reels but on a tighter budget sometimes you take what comes along. I use several sealines from the 90s and they still perform
  2. A con is that you may not stick with favorite lures as long as it is easier to change them. for real though not cranking them up is worth it if you have the budgett especially if you have any chronic pain problems which get worse with age. same goes for pedistal mounts if you have low sides the reduction of back strain from not bending over is worth a good price on its own and as you get older the value goes up.
  3. I have just one season on mine so far and am really happy with what I got rabbit what exactly were you seeing? When did you do your updates? Trolling I saw fish but didn't catch but when perch fishing Everytime I marked we started catching and when the marks stopped so did the hits good way to gain confidence it does what it's supposed to Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  5. This is not new technology and is nowhere near as effective as advertised the concept seems good but the practical applications have not been realized getting a new gene into an entire population has never been realistic especially a gene that makes them less fit in any way this is a potential management tool but not a final solution an engineered virus is a better erradication tool but with its own risks Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. My daughter is off Friday I am thinking of taking her to the hatchery (more for me) is it likely they will still be taking eggs? And do they always stop at noon? Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. they have definatly treated the outlet before I have gone down there to fish in the early summer and they had it posted as just treated and shouldnt wade in it.
  8. We were out there today for a while saw stacks of fish in 65fow in front of Maxwell but could not move a rod for anything this has been one of my worst years right from the start hopefully it doesn't last to much longer Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  10. Once salmon are done there is a near shore bite for browns and steelies they move in and out of the tribs all winter so there are usually feeding fish in shallow similar to a spring pattern can be banner days with no boat traffic Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. I have that same kicker in a 7.5 horse that thing is worth its weight in gold incredibly well built and reliable I can run 2-3 trips on 2.5 Gallons of gas Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. here is a 9lb one from the trip where I first trialed and fell in love with this technique. my wife caught this one. I was unable to get out on the boat much this week and these were feeding in the bay at the camp so as it turned out one of the best trips ever
  13. i used to get them in the spring that color. I have caught them on lots of different rigs. they are usually by catch when targeting other fish. they are predators but are opportunistic. if targeting them live bait is a good bet or any fish immitations. rubber worms can work as well as real worms but I have gotten more on live bait or fish imitations. The few times I have targeted them have been in areas where you can see them surfacing or crusing looking for easy meals. when i find an area like this everything else stops and I fish for these. get some live bluegill in the 4 inch range larger or smaller depending on the size of the bowfin. this works best off of docks or shore or outriggers. put a steel leader on with a small trebil hook. hook the bluegill in the back and set it so it dangles half in half out of the water. set it on a release and leave your bail open. the bowfin will come up to check it out and the blugill will splah around trying to get away. the bowfin once it decides to eat will not give up untill it has its food. you can often watch this play out and there is much splashing. once the bait is taken grap the rod close the bail tighten and yank the crap out of it there mouths are hard. the fight is spectacular and there is usually jumping.
  14. with fewer fish stocked there are fewer that can reach 40. Add in that to grow a fish that size requires 3 straight years with optimal growing conditions that means mild winters where the water stays warmer longer much like last winter. That has to happen mulitiple years in a row though. with 2 out of the last 3 winters being very cold and long it suggests that the next two year classes are likely to be smaller. That said the growth potential of the king is increadable that is why the 2 year olds are some of the plumpest fish out there and the why there were so many 30lbs caught this fall despite having survived those 2 tough winters. as far as genetics I dont buy it there have not been fresh genetics added since the original stocking yet you saw 40lbs in 2001 so that would mean the genes survived 30 years just fine but than couldnt make it the last 15? Enivironment plays a bigger factor with growth potential. my guess is another mild winter combined with the alweye situation where there are mostly larger adult baitfish means nexts years matures could be very large. but a tough long cold winter will stop there growth early and it wont start up again till the water warms in late spring.
  15. amazing they can feed that aggresivly one day and the next you cant buy a bite. The effort that fish must have gone through with a lure hanging out of its mouth after a fight to go that far and feed again and still jump. gotta love a healthy bow

  20. have you already purchased it? or are you in the market? lowrance has a terrible reputation for customer service. I recently purchased a new finder myself but at a much lower budget. I ended up with a raymarine dragonfly pro. I have had it out twice now and am trilled with how it worked I can mark my downriggers down to 90 feet so far and was even able to mark the thermocline the first day out. this was confirmed when the line moved up and above the probe rigger and the temp reading droped accordingly. This is with everything set on auto I havent even played with the manuall settings yet. consider looking at the raymarine units. Another good option is the garmins really user friendly and the navigation competes with navionics all day. With the garmin you also can look at Panoptics. its worth looking at. t
  21. Atlantic. draw a vertical line at the back of the eyeball if the corner of the mouth is forward of line atlantic if its behind its a brown. even when they get that big hook jaw and there mouth looks big the back corner doesnt extend any farthur back. there are other telltales but that one is the best and overides any others.
  22. In the settings menu for the go7 there should be a wifi set up option within that menu it should list the network name and password and give you option to change either from there on your tablet goto settings wifi than select the GO7 one and it will prompt for password I played with a lot of models in store connecting my phone they all worked in more or less the same manner Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. the way he is holding the fish with its mouth shut at a quick glance it looks like a channel cat. if he can set the drags he is already a step or two ahead of a couple of my fishing buddies
