  1. On Seneca I like 10 or 12lb test for spoons I use p-line fluroclear which is not a true flurocarbon but a hybrid I do this because I used it on my tipups for pike for years and it earned my trust I have tried seagar it is also good but I don't have the time in with it Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. hughes July 30 finally got a chance to go back to the big lake. got to the launch about 5:45 and was supprised by how many trailers were there. we got launched and left with the line of boats. we went past everyone else and started our set up in 325 we trolled north running two riggers and 3 dipseys. marked some fish in 320 but no takers did not mark anything all the way to 520 so we turned west to change the line and werent pointed that way 5 mins when the dipsey back 340 fired with a skippy. that would be the last dipsey hit all day. as that dipsey was going out the 80 rigger fired but came un buttoned after a minuet. set that back down and hit a skippy on the 90 rigger. at this point we still havent marked a fish we switched the 3rd dipsey to a 7 color down the chute just because having it in the way always gets us bit. we ended the day 6 for 11 with all hits on the riggers and cheaters from 90 down and up. got two big matures out of it a decent steely and a 2 year old. to the folks on here who suggested towing a boga type grip for catch and release thank you. all the fish swam away strong after a couple minuets even the one with the blood on it. the big king stripped out 600+ feet of line on the rigger rod than shot 3 feet out the water wayyyyy behind the boat. at some point after that she managed to get hook in her belly and I had to drag her in sideways my arm still hurts
  3. pappy start in 450 and troll north we did all our fish right around 520 fow today two big ones and a couple smaller fish to keep us busy we were just east of hughes
  4. I miss my walkers used them on my dad's boat and even as a kid they were easy to set and reliable I have blacks now and I am happy with them as well but if I had new riggers I am not sure which I would get Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. Green and blue are always my start followed by white but tomorrow will be my first time out in 3 weeks Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  7. looking forward to summer troll in seneca haven't done it in a while. we had good turn out for the first derby hope this one does even better. Hopefully we have better results fishing to last time we had fish on but lost everyone before we could get it in.
  8. hopefully they hire someone good to design it not like that clusterf**** of a launch at the chamber of commerace
  9. nice morning to be out we finally got back on Lake O ourselves today. fished out of bear creek from about 9 til 4 with a break in the middle to pick up a passenger at the dock. We went three for 4 today with a decent steely and teens king. Got my dad out for a trolling trip for the first time since he owned his boat in the mid ninetys. He got the stealhead. we marked fish from 120 to 180 with the best screens 140 and under all our fish came on spoons on the rigger 72 and 85 down. the one miss was a meat rig on the rigger man was it hazy and muggy out there I lost about 4 gallons of water in sweat. brother with the king
  10. In reality with that budget get a pair of used electrics and save up till you can upgrade Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. Start with manuals that way when you switch to electrics you'll appreciate it more. Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. that reaction is no joke especially to those flys because they typically dont cause any reaction beyond the initial hurt. I have a similar alergy to a deer fly like bug. it looks like a deer fly on growth hormone big and black and mean last time I got bit on my toe my whole foot swelled up to the point where I couldnt walk and it got red half way up my lower leg. i ended up with a patch of sking dying at the bite. good luck with the bugg spray mine just arrived today this will be my first time trying it last year my brother was convinced he just needed more off so he kept spraying and they were all over him and leaving me mostly alone. this year he has learned his lesson
  13. that sounds almost like commercial outriggers. look up commercial salmon fishing on youtube. could also be what many longliners call birds actually used to help stabilize the boat when pulling gear. most standard outriggers do not have motors and there just is not need. you can usually run the line out with one hand. as far as using standard outriggers I was given a pair of 12 footers a couple years ago and here is what i find. they are nice in a crowd because you are much more maneuverable they also make you look bigger so it tends to buy you more room. in rougher weather they don't bounce around like boards. you can run anything off of them including dipseys which is nice for more spread. downside is they don't get as far out as boards. for my set up storage is easy but initial set up and put away is a pain in the but. still they have there time and place. if i got a new boat I would consider getting a new set but I would go longer with a different type of mount ideally something that I could leave attached to the boat in storage.
  14. talk to your doctor and get an epi pen. allergies like that get worse with more exposures. If you go into full out anaphylaxis benadryl is not gonna do it and you're a long way from that kind of help
  15. i had to do a double take is that a flying laker in that pic? almost fell off the couch laughing
  16. 16 is the hailing channel it is also the emergency channel you call on 16 than switch to talk. If you have a radio law states you have to monitor 16 but in reality it's good practice because that's where a call for help will come from and if you need to make one in a hurry you don't have to think about changing channels that's why most radios have a button to go right to 16 Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. Thanks for the reply I have need of ramp but the dimensions aren't right might be moving but won't be soon so don't know what future need would be Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. would you sell just the top section? whats the total rise of the ramp?

    Catfish

Sometimes current matters as catfish follow a scent from the bait they come to the downstream bait first and thus that one gets more hits Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. thanks guys i've spent so much time targeting certain species or methods but I end up with so many good memories from random bonus fish like this or things that happened when just fishing simple in order to enjoy the outdorrs
  22. score one for the little guy So we finally got up to camp last weekend to check things out and open everything up. We had our grandson with us and he was paitent with us getting the trailer opened and ready so while up there we got out the bobber rods and had some fun. He got a pile of perch up to 8 inches and this happened. he hooked it and fought it all on his own all i did was talk him through it and get the fish out of the water and take pics. This fish was all of 30lbs probably more (no scale handy). caught it on a snoopy pole and zebco took about 25 mins to land. The picture does not do it justice. Thank god the water was cold and most of the runs were slow i think if the fish had decided to go out to the lake there was no stopping him. He talked about this fish for the rest of the trip but in fairness so did I. This quite possibly tops my PB Carp but i dont target them (may have to start)
  23. pvc is your friend you can also hang a couple of rake handles from the celing about 3 feet apart and parallel to the ground just at the top of your reach. you can fit a lot of rods on that
  24. I dont have near the time in on seneca as Sk8man but one thing i have learned is have patience with that lake it can drive you crazy in a hurry. can have great fishing than for no reason another time you cant buy a fish. for lakers I found green chartreuse and white are the most consistent colors down deep. Dont be afraid to troll shallow for lakers this time of year especially in the early morning. for rainbows or LL I find my best luck is the top 70 feet of water again white is a constant producer and UV on sunny days orange is also always out to start some days that is the key. 28 size and equivalent spoons are the most consistent for me. as for browns good luck I can count my browns on one hand and thats over several years. I find that fish can be in very tight areas sometimes there so if you get bit dont be afraid to circle
