  1. One man's weed heaven is another man's hell....guess that"s life or at least bass fishin vs. trout fishing
  2. Trolling speed is probably a large factor to consider here but usually if I wanted it to vibrate in the water with a tighter "flutter" back and forth I used the nose itself (generally trolling slower too) when I want it to have more back and forth to it I use the split ring and it seems to tolerate a little higher speed. I don't use them all that much trolling anymore for trout but do use them for casting for walleyes in the Spring from shore (docks) and I normally use them with a Kwik Klip or very small Duolock on the nose itself in that case.
  3. There doesn't seem to be any ONE BOAT that fits all the needs of fishermen, recreational boaters etc. It is always a matter of compromises, and finding the one CLOSEST to meeting your "requirements" , and more than one boat owner has decided to "downsize" after trailering for awhile. The basics still come into play....depth, width, transom height, and deep V hull for most on Lake O and weight in the case of trailering. Something else I encountered with my current boat is that a disparity in axel width of trailer and tow vehicle can become a problem. My Explorer with towing package at 60 mph was like the tail wagging the dog....lifted the front end of the Explorer off the ground. despite multiple adjustments to the tongue weight on the trailer....had to get an Expedition with a wider wheelbase....problem solved. Good luck with whatever you decide to get.
  4. Very nice fish...good going! I was trying to figure out what lake you were on H maybe?
  5. When true silver finish deteriorates to the degree that I can't bring it back with silver polish I seize it as an opportunity. For example with Suttons that are beyond "bringing back from the dead" I use glitter nail polish in various colors (my daughters used to raid them when they were teenagers)to apply all sorts of new coatings/designs to them. I know.....I could air brush them with more permanent results...but I want them to be less permanent. They serve as my testing spoons. I then apply a coat of acrylic topcoat nail polish (hardener)to them. They will last that way for quite some time and if they don't work out I merely remove the colors/patterns and try new ones till I find something that works. I had hundreds of old spoons just sitting around and now many are back in my arsenal (without spending $6.00 or more over again for new ones). I also use it on stickbaits that have been severely scratched up too (as in PIKE). If something is found that works incredibly well they can always be air brushed and clear coated for more permanent use.) Bob Fuller doesn't have anything to worry about from my "creations" but they work....these lure finishes were totally shot beforehand. (some folks are probably saying "They still are" :>)
  6. yes it is an annual PITA . Cayuga is not the only lake where it is a problem either.... pretty much most of the lakes around here have the problem as soon as the water temps get up there. It will usually decrease as the water temp decreases in the Fall but during the summer months we are pretty much stuck with it. Lake Ontario has them too.
  7. Probably be best going to Oneida if it isn't too far for you. They've been still getting the eyes there recently.
  8. Nice report Chris...how were the fleas in the areas you worked?
  9. Honeoye is turning over right now and close to unfishable with weeds, algae etc.. This was mentioned to me today by my son on the phone who lives right there. He said the kids can't even go in the water because of the algae bloom and all the floating gunk... not just usual weeds. Weed growth is at the top of the water in many places. Last year when it got like this the algae was pooled up at the south end near the launch ramp and it resembled green colored oil based paint being dumped in the water....it was that bad. I declined to launch my boat because of it.....it is truly that thick....and nasty.
  10. Nice going Sean. Great pics too. You kept the pride of the Seneca boys for sure. That kid sure looks like a "happy camper" and I'll bet that fish will grow a bunch when he tells the rest of the kids about his adventure back in Denmark. I used to spend time in Copenhagen and he sure looks like a Dane
  11. Hey Nick that place (Normandy Inn) doesn't look much different than when my folks used to take us there when I was a little kid.....over half a century ago. They were known throughout the area and this part of the state even then for having some of the best food in the area. I didn't know they were still doing business after all these years. Cool!

    Kicker help

I'm assuming that oil was added to the fuel. Does the motor have a spout that sends the water out to the side and if so is there water coming out in a steady spurt? Possible blockage of the upper cylinder? Is it possible that there is a blockage in the vent opening on the lower unit e.g. cottonwood or fleas etc.? My recollection is that back then they didn't have much in the way of solid state electronics in the engines but does it have a temp control sensor of some sort on it that might be malfunctioning?
  13. I'd try shortening up the leader to 25ft. and see if that helps.
  14. You know when you look at that it look a lot like a couple of the videos on here taken of fish chasing Spin Docs etc. Makes you wonder how many fish we do have chasing our stuff but not able to quite get hold of it either because of the action itself or the speed of the boat etc. Lately it is comforting just knowing there really is something down there
  15. Good going Andy.....fishing together..that"s the important thing. Keep after them. Hopefully things will improve soon on these lakes....
  16. Good thing you "fessed up" we were ready to tar and feather you
  17. Are you sure it wasn't from his combo VHF radio/GPS?
  18. I guess your next video won't be "How to make Thunder and Lightning Produce Salmon For You"
  19. I guess your next video won't be "How to make Thunder and Lightning Produce Salmon For You"
  20. You probably needed to donate to the fish gods and reduce your tackle inventory anyway Nick
  21. Some of our North side brothers may want to pipe in here and maybe offer a pic as I don't have anything available right now for a pic. Meat rigs basically immitate a "live bait being trolled" presentation. It combines a plastic or plastic/metal "head" and carefully placed hook set up with an actual herring torso (or strips of fish) that has been processed (freeze dried, soaked in various brines etc.) to harden it so that it stays attached to the head and lasts longer when trolled. The rig is usually trolled behind various "attractors". A few companies sell their own renditions of bait which each have their own fans . Often times a herring scent is added to the bait as an additional attractant. The actual specific setup of the rig and the speed at which it is trolled are considered crucial factors by many of its adherents. When used correctly it can be deadly for a number of species but primarily salmon and lake trout. This is something that whole books can be written about but I tried to answer the general points for you.
