  2. Along with the lampreys attacking the fish that are there.
  3. I hear ya. Maybe when you rig Emily IV . Good luck out there Andy.
  4. WTG Mark and cool report. What if they do a repeat charter? The pressure will be on to perform again and so much for the necessity of electronics
  5. Deeper depressions in the bottom that it can't focus on when already focused on bottom?
  6. I have the Fishhawk X4D Andy. There are guys that have it on here so maybe they will respond. It is pretty pricey with all the probes but very nice to be able to attach a probe to individual lines too. Hopefully someone who has the unit will chime in.

  8. Autostop and adjustable booms were available features on the earlier downriggers as well.
  9. I've seen it used in the saltwater environment with real high pound test line (100 or 200) but not in freshwater. No matter what type line you have to use the right size crimp if you go too big the line can wiggle or bind in the edges of the crimp causing possible failure of the line. With something as soft as mono or fluro I'd be concerned about line integrity with the lighter lines. Best used with wire of various types and even there you have to choose carefully (e..g. not with copper etc.). With that said I have always used crimps with stainless wire of various tests with good luck.
  10. Nice going C.
  11. There are good fish of various species in both of those lakes but neither lake is easy to catch them consistently (trout or warm water species) They don't readily give up their fish and the learning curve is pretty gradual for even the very experienced folks.
  12. Thanks Bill. I'll be taking you up on it at some point for sure I haven't had my own boat out for weeks.
  13. Man you guys would be a dangerous combo o
  14. The south end of Canandaigua has plenty of them and some real big ones if you can find some live shiners
  15. That was the one I was referring to Mudflat Thanks.
  16. You are exactly right about the clutch setting. A long time ago I actually saw that happen to a guy On Seneca during a derby. He had it set too tight and got hung up bad. It ripped a section out of his gunwale and the downrigger went in the drink in I think 70 ft of water. Luckily he had a diver camped in the site next to him who retrieved it for him but the biggest problem was the hole in the boat.
  17. Here is another option https://www.amazon.com/American-Fishing-Wire-Surfstrand-Downrigger/dp/B003OB5XLI/ref=sr_1_7?dchild=1&hvadid=78477693926459&hvbmt=bp&hvdev=c&hvqmt=p&keywords=downrigger%2Bwire&qid=1597437086&sr=8-7&tag=mh0b-20&th=1&psc=1
  18. I think I remember some time back seeing a 30 lb test wire strength test chart and Mason didn't fare very well compared to some of the others don't remember where I saw it though.
  19. I think I recognize that lure think I had one myself once
  20. WTG Johnny. Hope it inspires others to do the same and I think it will
  21. This is really another one of those personal preference issues and the bottom line is that you need to have confidence in whatever you decide to use.
  22. ANY kink can lead to a possible wire failure wherever located on the wire. Sometimes there can even be single strand separations that are hard to detect but can lead to failure. The solution is to cut out section if not too much wire affected or put on new wire if long section. Although shortening the wire may affect your line counter the fact that you have 1,00 ft on there to deal with reduces the significance of small amounts of loss.
