I used to run copper, but I hate bird's nests so I moved from copper to weighted steel. And the mess that copper often produces does not happen anymore. Still, whether it is 500 copper or 500 steel, it is still 500 feet to be reeled in, which everybody always tries to pass it on to somebody else.

Now that I solo fish most of the time, there is nobody to pass it off to anymore ,so now I mostly stopped using it.

In order to get back to using it again I started checking out on electric reels and I settled on a battery operated ( no electric wires dangling around) Electric Penn Fathom Reel. I'm going deep sea fishing in the Pacific off the Costa Rica coast so I used that as an excuse to buy it. They are for sale in the USA for $1070 before taxes and an extra battery goes for $119.  But if you buy it online from Germany they cost only $650 delivered to your house within a week which makes it way more reasonable.

Does anybody use these reels for copper? If so, what is your experience and opinion?
