The new "Experts and Pros " of Rochester

Recommended Posts

Well Rochester fleet....keep your eyes open for some up and coming new experts in our area....without getting into details we have some new stiff competition headed our way....These guys are Experts and will sure show us a thing or two....

Now the real question is what exactly is a pro or expert? Hmmm let's see....I have 35 years experience on the lake....my share of tournament wins....a captains license, and I'm usually on the water at least three days a week.....would I call myself an expert or a pro? Absolutely not ! I will demonstrate a professional attitude and work ethic for clients, however going to the extreme of saying I'm an expert? No way......what are your opinions ...in general , what would qualify a guy to be considered an "expert salmon fisherman"?

I believe an "expert salmon fisherman" is a person who claims that they ARE an "expert salmon fisherman". ......

Nailed it!

Only way I could justify calling myself an expert is to be a Pro fisherman along with many years of biology studies on Lake Ontario Salmonoids, feeding habits, lifecycle analysis, lots of research papers and studies... then maybe.

Sounds to me that you are worried about these guys, so by your actions they are experts, remember this "if you have to ask, you will never truly understand"

??????? If you understand the reason for the question maybe you wouldn't seem like such a ignorant person. When someone calls them self an "EXPERT" . ex·pert

a person who has special skill or knowledge in some particular field; specialist; authority: a language expert.

were all experts at something.

I've met quite a few of the people who have chimed in on this thread and I HOPE someday to have part of the knowledge they've got

<<<<<-----------I paid twenty bucks, therefore I sir, am a professional...:lol:

Just kidding, I saw something or another of this topic this morning before 7 am. It struck me odd.

I tried talking with the "experts" at the pro am once. I got a cold shoulder.. A big one, and I was even congratulating the team well done.

Expert- Definition- A large Richard Cranium.

On another note, let's leave the "pros" and "cons" to the democrats...

I would say that your an expert, your just to humble to admit it. How many people truly have more time to fish or more than 35 yrs experiance. I would take your salmon fishing advice as expertise.

Yahtzee!! Well put. I am one of the youngest here, and one of the youngest captains I believe in the state. But, by no means am I an expert.. I learn things daily from this site, phone calls, advice... did I say advice? I wouldn't be where I am today if it was not for this site.. I grew up seth green rig fishing, 5 years ago, I didnt know what a downrigger was, let alone a thermocline.. I hope to be as you are, still learning and still fishing with the passion that this sport deserves.

Anyways, I think the word expert is a long shot... I can't wait to read more on this subject..

Well, I have to say, Rick sure does like blowing things way out of proportion, but it does make for some entertaining reading! 8)

First, sorry it took so long to get a post up, I was out pre-fishing the Atommik Event.

Second, let's get the story straight, neither myself, nor my brother, have ever referred to ourselves as "Experts". Those we have taken out this year may have thought we were, as we put them on some good fish, and to someone who isn't used to our amazing fishery we may have looked like experts. So please get it straight - this did not come from us. 8)

Gill t all moms say were pretty good heck the other night she said i was pretty good.... hey I r a expert how many guys can fall asleep on the back of the boat with a bungi for a autopiolet with 12 rods out and wake up to 4 screamin rods land em all......In the buff with no foul hooksets (whew) alone i might add ....but that was 10 years ago before i got a free ticket for my boat lookin like a porcupine....but i did have 5 blowup dolls to account for the extra rods..

Matt 35 years ago you were sporting a worm and bobber rig on a snoopy pole....Im not shure thats in the expert book...

Hey if this post was about the finders keeper crew, then I want to recant everything I may have said that was in bad light to them, I thought we were talking about some other guys, I know Tim and Jeff personally and believe me they wont hang them selves, only two young guns I know that work the hardest on that lake for every fish they catch, and have taught me a thing or two also, so missdeamer if these are the guys you are worried about you have good reason to be, for they will be the guys to take this sport to the next step, and the funny thing is they are the two most humble guys I know,so it does take me by surprise that these are the two you are talking about
