Respooling reels

Recommended Posts

Last year I had 4 rods hang at the same time while Walleye trolling, the rods & line were tested to their limit and then some, I even popped an eye off one of my 15-20 year old rods.

Anyhow, I’m respooling them all and here’s what I use. I know everybody has their way of doing it but here’s mine. It was easy to make with wood I had laying around. Used a piece of 2x6, ½†plywood, dowel and wire coat hanger. And a few rubber bands for spool tension

Now that's one clever idea!!! That's what I call using your head for something other than a hat rack!! Thanks for the pics. May I ask how did you bend the wire or is this some sort of a plumbing hanger, like for plastic pipe support or did you just bend it to fit. Thanks for any info. PAPðŸ‘ðŸ‘

My wife hates holding the line (and maybe me barking about the tension) ....maybe I can ask her to make one?....naah too risky for several reasons

I built a re-spooling station a few years back. I used 2 wing nuts and bolts to create a split and squeeze clamp for rod handles, but I just keep an old rod in the clamp all the time and change out the reels as I re-spool. The spool of line and the reel handle are only 32" apart, so I can keep tension on the line spool with one hand and crank the reel with the other hand.

I agree Tim

I've been using Trilene for years and never had an issue. I use the Big Game too.

I spooled up a few reels with Suffix and the line seems very slippery and slips through the pads on my inline boards

Why on earth not? I've used nothing but Trilene for as long a I can remember. Never had a complaint with it.

Because one year ago I bought a huge spool of very high quality 30 pound line from Michelle (Captains Cove) during the lotsa meet in Niagara falls -at a very deep discount-.It will take me a few years to use it all up.
