What is a good speed to troll at and what is working best out on the lake. Was thinking of going out this evening ..

Currents are crazy out there now...or were on Monday... Sometimes you just gotta try different ones till ya find what's working...that's why I am investing in a fish hawk

The water is so wacky right now. Down speed is what you should be concerned with. We use the angle of cable entry into the water to define our trolling speeds. SOG is negligible in deep water trolling. Cables stretched way out=too fast, hanging close to boat=too slow, off to one side with wheel straight=current to correct for.

we went out Thursday and caught 1 doing about 2.1-2.3

I have found anywhere from 2.1 to 2.5 down speed. I have never caught anything tolling faster.

I always go 2.4, I feel that is a good speed, you can also go a little faster or slower depending on what the fish want, 2.4 is what I would start with
