  3. Other factors. Dr Weidel stated a good majority of the alewives caught in the survey this year were found in Canadian waters. Most years the bait is on the South side of the fence
  4. Yep, I am done. Eight straight days of fishing for the big one. One clunker of a day yesterday and a grind bite today, otherwise, it was a king bonanza. Damn you NE winds for ruining a great bite off Olcott! I was out in 488’ catching kings today and we fished as tight as 62’. Green water is everywhere. When a pod of bait comes ashore, kings are with them. Every day was slightly different where we would level off and find a line. Congrats to the LOC leaders!
  5. Today
  6. Completely agree with you, when you get on a big one they fight hard and that last picture is a masterpiece
  7. I have noticed that our Canadian brothers seem to catch on occasion and consistently over the last so many years the biggest fish of the season during the fishing year . Now why is that ? Either they are better or more lucky than we are . Or something to consider are those are North shore naturally reproduced fish that don't stray far from the breeding grounds .

  17. Got out today with my boys - Jeremy is home from college and we had a pretty steady pick once we found the fish. straight out the genny 175 - 200 fow was best depth and caught almost everything under 50 feet. A few fish came on the rigger set at 70 on a cheater probably 35 to 40 down. Slide diver mag on 2 out 185. chinook 4 at 170 on a 2 as well we got about 8 in the boat and lost another 5 which is not usual for us. left dock at 6am home by 12pm
  18. Nope. They missed one year in 2020 on both sides of the lake due to Covid and government travel restrictions. They treated all in Ontario in 2021 and some in New York in 2021 according this DEC document. https://extapps.dec.ny.gov/docs/fish_marine_pdf/lofapminutes41123.pdf Laziness had nothing to do with it. I'm grateful for the hard work they do.
  19. On the water. 1 for 3. A swing and a miss. Next one was 60' down on rigger. Same with the next one but got wrapped in my dipsey line and broke the cheater line. Dead after 9 am. Can't buy a bite
  20. 2 Okuma Magda Pro reels with rods and spooled with 20lbs Trilene big game. One of the rods lost a fight with the rod locker and lost a few inches. Fish don’t seem to mind. $95 cash for the pair. If they’re listed they are for sale.
  21. Forgot I still have these. Price lowered to $65.
  22. New lamprey spawning sites develop and weather constantly messes with treatments effectiveness. If you want to help, you might consider making region 7 and Cape Vincent bios & managers aware you are observing above average small lamprey on Mexico Bay-Oswego BT this spring. RE: lazy control teams - in my 15 years I’ve observed Lk Ont DFO lamprey control field teams to be among the hardest working and most dedicated in the Great Lakes. US and CA field teams of all types were ready to work in 2020 but were ordered to ‘stand down’. Administration risk tolerance, not field crew effort-desire, caused the treatment pause.
  23. The first Lake Ontario Bar experiment with the Smart Troll was very productive! Our 4 wire program took 80% of our 105 bites over 6 days totaling 47.5 hours washing lures. Using our Fishhawk Ultra with the depth at the probe with the other Smart troll probes on our wires let us dial in our presentation once we establish temperature and depth of the probes working unison together. We started out spacing things apart until we get bit and then make adjustments based on those hits. Dealing with currents and changing boat direction in waves helped us keep our lures in the active zone the fish were biting. Speed at the ball with our Fish Hawk helped us maintain that bite also when turning around with waves. We added .5 miles per hour going west with the current to keep our lures dancing. Other things that helped was when we had a knock off on the wire or a small fish that didn't trip (rare) we could see on the display the depth go up from it being tripped or dragging a small fish long before watching the rods. We also were looking for 45-47F at the wire depths as well as the rigger to keep us in the action. Surface temp was 50-54F by the end of the week. I feel it added more fish to our catch overall by drilling it down quickly and having accurate data and depth.
