Anyone use weights with stickbaits ?
brucehookedup replied to mbald123's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Deeper water for sure. If there is a lot of crap in the water I will put a bb size shot on to keep the junk of my bait. -
Hey rick, glad you beached a few sharks. Now I got to fight with all the traffic down there, just kidding. In the short time we fished they had over 20 something bites as well. Ended up going to RGH emergency, no broken bones. I am going to the orthopedics surgeon today. Hopefully I will be going again this weekend to poke some more holes in the fish. Good luck at the oak.

I am having a hard time trying to remember a spring with so many fish available.Saturday 4/19 I had 6 young men aboard, thank god. We had 72 bites in a 6 hr trip. They had 5 quads and once we had 5 on. No doubt one of the top 2 trip ever of Hookedup. All of the big pond is on fire, not just Rochester. Usually you will have a wicked bite one day and then a little harder the next and so on. Not this year. Seems to be plenty of fish from 30 to 4ft, east or west, it doesn't matter. The fish are not even all that picky as far as the baits go. Maybe this exceptionally cold winter hammered the gobies.I can tell you that 90% of the fish that I have cleaned had nothing in them. The others had niagara shiners in them.It is great to see all of the healthy cookie browns. The lakers on the beach are a beautiful bonus, and not marked up. We have managed to capture a couple of 2yr old sharks on most trips as well. It cannot get any better.

I fished the last two days, friday and saturday. The first day i went east and had over 40 bites . The first fish was a coho and that was the only one. We had 1 bow and the rest were browns, the biggest being 11lbs. Colored plugs 60 to 90 ft back on the boards off the beach in the mud, and natural stuff once you were out of it. A few shallow rigger bites. Today i went west for a change of scenery and did nearly the same ecept 4 less bites. Alot of dirty water along the ponds. The fish are there but they can't see what you are offering them. Short day tommorrow, probably hang around home. There is fish there as well. There seems to be a bite no matter where you go. BEAUTIFUL gotta love it. Good luck.

For Sale : USA Color chartplotter

I never had the transducer with this unit. It does have the lake Ontario chip in it. You can still purchase one and use it as a fishfinder as well. Great detail and color. I bought the same unit just a much larger screen, getting old, much easier on the eyes. -
The Genesee Charter Boat Assoc. is getting our pens ready for fish this sunday at 11am at Shumway marine. Members and non members are all welcome to help. It would be greatly appreceiated for your assistance. Many of us fish out there, and this is where it all starts from. We will also be looking for people to feed them as well, as they need to be fed 5 times a day. Contact randy at 739-0569 if you can do a feeding.

Deep kings do chew, maybe not so aggressively. Put the biggest paddle you own with a big fly or meat so they can see it. My deepest to date is 274ft.

I run my probe on the highest rigger, at the top of the break on my port rigger. I find the cold water, bring it up, and run it high. The blow back with 15lb balls is minimal. I run a scotty power grip clipped in above the probe, works mint. Dwayne and Hank are great at subtroll. If anyone needs parts in the Rochester area give me a call, I stock most of them. There is a adjustment in the back of the unit for speed. Go to a calm spot and drop youf probe down 3 ft out of any issues (prop wash) and adjust to your gps. Go several directions and speed, DONE go kill fish.

How is lake fishing in early April?
brucehookedup replied to markmonkey1's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Rochester is ice free and the bite is awesome come spring. -
Scottys hands down. Blacks will leave a curly feeling on your line that weakens over time. You can tell where you are putting your line in the release everytime, no doubt. Scotty power grips are bar none the best release out there. No residue on your line, and adjustments from very light to very tight. They also have a small piece of mono attached to them that allows you to see a small wiggly on your bait.

IBAY 3/25/14 REPORT
brucehookedup replied to dgio67's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Good deal, glad to see you out.You didn't get skunked. Its a little scary thinking about that cold water. I will be in next Tuesday, fishing starts that weekend as well. I am sure the chewing will commence as usual for the early spring. -
I have been around the block with many brands and lengths. I have used the ugly stik 8'3 for many years now. Every now and then I will break one at the ferule. They do have a 5 year warranty. Timber lake and tackle is a great place to purchase.

We ( genesee charter boat association) are supposed to have the D.E.C. at one of our near future meetings to hammer them on this issue. We are always welcoming new members. We have a website to get meeting times and info. Strength is in numbers. True vince, protect is the main issue. 2 bad years of natural fish, and we will all know it.

Caledonia was the best thing that ever happened to the west end of LO. The salmon fishing is nothing like it used to be when that hatchery was rearing the kings, especially in the fall. Don't get me wrong, fishing is still awesome, but the salmon hanging in the west end gets tough as summer progresses. I know, I know, you have been doing quite well fishing for them. I am relating to our late summer, early fall salmon stageing. Yes we have a bite and it starts to look promising, and then they are gone, heading east where they came from. I can follow these fish and see it happening, and then continue to follow them with phone calls to the east. Our fall fishing was phenomenal in front of the genny. This fishery ceased with the shut down of salmon at Caledonia in the early 2000s. I am in full support of the Caledonia hatchery raising Chinooks again. I agree with all our eggs in one basket is stupid. What really sucks about this situation as I feel, is that steve lapan has the final word, even though thousands of people and millions of dollars would benefit. Powdermill I suppose could work, Caledonia is a proven champ.
