  1. dont delay on those dipsey holders those plastic ones will break
  2. that is a "time to go" moment for sure i wouldnt un pucker till i hit the dock
  3. Let's go with something radical and different that could draw tourism. stock striped bass, the lake unfortunately is not and will never again be in it's native state so maybe manage it to create an economic driver. That is far different than the current mentality of restore but it is the mentality that lead to Pacific's in the great lakes. They would likely not reproduce naturally so could be controlled and discontinued in the future. Just a thought something a little less in the box Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. I have been using the torpedo wire for few years now and I am not nice to my equipment it's been very good to me I have both 7 strand and 19 strand the 19 is more forgiving in my opinion and when the time comes to replace the wire on any of mine it will be with 19 strand Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. also note that the year of the boat does not dictate the year of the riggers. if the switch is backwards two easy options. reverse the wires in the plug on the boat end or take the housing off and switch the connecters on the back of the switch. old school riggers simple set up slow as hell but man they last. i have old mag 10s from the 80s i wish i could use bigger weights but hey they still work and more to teh point they are not manuals. to the original poster this thread is 13 years old hope everything worked out. I do love an old read on old equipment that is still relevent today though. just shows how tough some of those mag 10s really are.
  6. We had a plan to go that far Sunday but the chop was less than comfortable we started at 250 and trolled out to 570 good marks till 450 nothing after with no action at that point the temp started to do deeper so we turned back to fish the marks we say ended up 2 for 5 with a very dark 15# king in 500 and a small Steelie in 270 slow day overall seemed like the currents were shifting a lot out there as we kept having to change angles and tweak speeds. Oh well still nice to get out Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. Nice was planning to do the offshore tomorrow myself Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. they are farthur to the side than it looks on the surface. the line gets a bit of a belly to it as you run more out. that said if your only running one per side use a 2.5 or a 3 setting no reason not to get as much space as possible
  9. bleach water 30:1 ratio give it a good scrubing with soap (car wash is a good place to do it) than soak it as much as possible with the bleach water and let it air dry.
  10. Start a live post for the area and post on it others are likely to as well phones have more or less killed the radio chatter these days the vhf is mostly for emergency. Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. Beat me to it I wanna know where he got them. Always good to see the kids out wish I could have gotten mine more into it maybe the grand kids will take to it Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. thats funy we spent the day in 150-180 and lost track of hits had a case of the dropseys for a while but still ended up double digits for kings and steel. early all our fish were up in the top 50 feet with the 7 color being the stud. our deep divers didnt fire till after 9 but than from there every rod was going. my arms are still tired. every lure out had fish we never even made a change. biggest of the day was 23.5
  13. If the fish is running at all or has any size we pull it good chance to change lures. If we are not in a derby the shoot rod will often be something less than 300 out either a short core or a torpedo diver or even a thumper type set up Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. that is a fantastic example of how much variability there can be between individual fish of the same species that is why knowing some of the major identifiers is so key.
  15. when the fishing is slow we like to run a chute rod of some sort seem to get more fish when we have one in the way.
  16. blue dolphin has had its days for me both up high and down deep fingerlakes and ontario. its in my "primary" spoon box
  17. Pick your days and pay attention. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United This says it all. The great lakes have claimed a lot of boats and ships of all sizes. Today's world is wonderful in that even offshore we always have access to real time info. Watch the weather and know how long it takes you to get to safe harbor error on the side of caution Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. no but if you live near braddock (roughly half way) you could get to either one of those places quickly maybe 30 mins with how i drive a little more with a calmer person especially if your near the parkway that is just a very convient drive from the river all the way to the oak and anywhare in between
  19. hughs mariana is right at the end of 21 bear creek you have to stop at the community center to get a launch pass its on knickerbocker road in the park fishing can be a little more hit or miss out that way especially for kings in early summer but browns and lakers are around most of the year hughs is also close to deep water and has lots of good current. Bear creek gets a bit of surge if there is any swell from the north. there is really no sea wall or pier for any sort of protection to the ramp.
  20. The color on that fish is fantastic sometimes not the biggest fish but the prettiest leaves a wonderful memory Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. sandy creek is a good alternative as well closer than the oak and shorter run to deep water. but to be honest with that size boat follow the wind and reports. you can get from the oak to ibay in half an hour that is a fantastic stretch to be open to and if you expand it to an hour you can get from sodus to the niagra there are always fish in that run from spring till fall that is the benefit of the smaller boat
  22. If it's on your list you gotta do it we did it twice towing the little 14 footer all the way there lots of internet research to find the areas. Used our rigger rods and drifted with blood worms caught a ton of fish and had a ton of fun I will get back there. we fished pougkeepsi area (wife has family nearby) but I wanna try Albany area next we are blessed in NY to have several world class fisheries in such easy reach Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. we are planning on it this year the dates look like they are going to work out for our boat we would also be fishing out of bald eagle
  24. nice we lauched out of ibay late 9:30 or so and started seeing bait on the screen in 30fow and by 60 there were marks around the bait so we set up and only got 3 hours in before the wind kicked up and chased us into the bay ended 2 for 7 with a pair of steelbows. steady action given how slow its been but a lot of short hits. the one and 2 colors took the most but the deep rigger also fired. fish are very scatterd but there are active pods. we took all our hits in 65 to 70 fow hopefully it sets up a bit more in the next couple weeks.
