Fishing Honeoye on the weekends - A warning!
BSmaster replied to Sk8man's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
That is why I do not go there. Great place to fish but the lake is overcrowded. Be safe. -

Glad to hear you made it out Pap. I think that boaters are more sympathetic because of the familiarity with the problem and understanding of what it feels like to be on the bad end of it. I have read countless stories on here about strangers helping out and I would say that I would stop fishing to help someone in need as well. Sucks to be a bobber and anyone who has an older boat knows this all too well. I had my boat problems last year (I hope). Didn't need a tow but was worried about it a few times.

So I read reviews online and answered some questions. I am curious about abrasion resistance, UV light degredation? I like that it casts a mile but you wouldn't want to use this with a beefy stick if it has zero stretch. Do you put on a Med or a med Light or a light rod? If you have a line that floats, how big of a deal is it to use with jigs? I ask because I see some attributes that worry me and some that are very attractive. I can see using it with a drop shot style long line rig for fingerlake panfish but stay away from it in other situations.

Stolen 9.9 Mercury 4-stroke from Boat Doctors in Olcott 4/24/15
BSmaster replied to Gill-T's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I am planning a trip up to Watertown and my boat is open format. I was wondering about security too. My Dad had devised a way to scare the hell out of some one and it was a simple battery operated alarm with a simple tab pull (cheap) to make it it go off and it was loud. We all know how to use fishing line - this is going to be my attempt at keeping the boat items safe. I also put a obscure stamp on the items that are of value, so I know when I see it that it was mine. Like others have said - you would like to catch the vermon just as much as keeping them away. For the docks, I always though you could implement trail cameras to know who has been by your dock and how respectful your neighbors are. -

I saw about dozen pike by the race way a few weeks ago. I do not know how many fish remain up there but I would think you would only be able to fish it before july and then it would be next to impossible with all of the growth. Also, the birds of prey probably pick off a lot of the fish. I have seen yakers go up in there but for bird watching. It is a beautiful area with a lot of life to it. That place has the biggest water snakes I have ever seen. Plenty of food for them to eat. I have always thought there would be a nice largemouth population up in there but if you try it and do well don't post it. The marsh is better left alone. A few of these places need to be left unmolested. You can apreciate it from the trails.

I think so. Stay on Waneta side. I have seen a lot of your photos. I am pretty sure you will catch something. Be wary. It will be a mad house this particular weekend with the bass tourney.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/olympics/2015/04/16/37-tons-of-dead-fish-removed-from-rio-olympic-rowing-venue/25889385/ I have smelled about 200lbs of rotten slamon stacked up by egg hunters and that was pretty bad. There will be added incentive to row faster.

Pap's response is really accurate. There is a lot of food. I would try a drop shot with an actual night crawler loosely hooked and long line (back troll around 50ft of water.) light line 4-6lb (I love pulling that one out when nobody is catching anything with their high price baits). The other thing I would try is sending Kevin Legg a PM and ask him what his pattern is on the Larry / eastern bays. The 3rd thing I would try is going to Auburn and talk with the bass pros. I have learned from them. I share with them and I think other fisherman have shared with them so they have decent knowledge of what works. Its not like talking with the high school kid that works at Dicks. I never had good days for prespawn bass and always tried to leave them alone anyways (until summer). Trout, crappie, perch and soon walleye and pike - Why fish for bass anyways? That's my summer fish! Good luck and tight lines. I hope you get some 3 foot jumpers. Joe
