I was considering buying a Savage 20 gauge 301 single shot shotgun for spring gobbler. And mount a red dot scope on it. Going to shoot TSS loads. Anyone have any opinion on the 301 shotgun or their favorite TSS shot size to pair with the 301?

I currently use a Mossberg 835 3 1/2" with an illuminated "T" scope. It's a turkey killer & not much heavier than the 301. But, well you know. Latest & greatest...

Thanks.

Thanks! I've seen reviews & videos. It's incredible the pattern even with the stock choke Savage provides with the gun.

I have the 410 for light packability and versatility on state land. I got a patternmaster code black choke and I have several shot sizes that I will be trying soon. I will report back on the results soon! Watch the Blue Collar Outdoors boys on Youtube, they are an incredible resource.

I’ve got one in 20 gauge, and it’s lightweight and patterns surprisingly well, even with the stock choke. I’ve had good luck using TSS #9s—they hit hard and hold a tight spread, even out past 30 yards.

Bought one in 20 ga for my boy to use. Shoot high brass sixes and it patterns great out to 40 yards. Weighs next to nothing. I usually use it when I am hunting by myself. IMO, it is one of the best deals going.
