  10. It is posted on Facebook, here, their email list and the website for the charter association. Can't say it's non-existent.
  11. Yes, the local charter group hosts the State here, too. But publicity is non-existent, I would have missed the one a couple of weeks ago if I had not seen it on here. Attendance was much lower than when it was held at RIT as a stand alone meeting, also likely because few knew about it.
  12. **** load of variables, from how hard it's blowing and for how long to how close you are to the source of the currents . If your within 10-20 miles of say the Niagara River dumping into O , it would never affect the deep current . Your by Rochester and it's been blowing hard for a week it may shift the current a bit . Then you have different levels of where the current might start ,say at 50' or maybe 100' if your on the fringe of the main current channel . Current is going to be a lot stronger near the source or outflow ,like Oswego than it will be in the area of the center of it . I'm not a marine hydroligist and could be way off in my take on your question .
  13. I'm not familiar with the Seneca River, but if you ever want to fish the lower Genny let me know for some details. Lots of cats, and a great place to take a young person for lots of action. We usually use cut fish for bait..... lakers, salmon scraps, etc....... and hang chunks hooked through the skin under a slip float. A surprising number of cats in the Genny are not bottom oriented but are up off bottom and are structure/current oriented. Seneca River cats probably aren't much different.
  14. Went out for a little while yesterday once the fog finally lifted. The surface temp was 52, managed one nice landlock off the boards, marked plenty of bait and what I assume were lakers near the bottom in the 50-80’ range but wasn’t after ‘em. Good luck out there!
  15. We used t catch a lot of them at night at Mays Point (between Savannah and Seneca Falls) near the Montezuma Refuge. As a kid I caught a Blue Cat there that was 9 inches between the eyes (didn't have a scale) Fished from shore though.
  16. Does the oil smell like gear oil , there is a distinct difference between engine oil and gear oil . If it's gear oil and seemingly coming from the bellows you have a bad upper seal on the input shaft on the outdrive . If it's engine oil , it's coming out the engines exhaust and you probably have valve seals , piston rings going south . I agree with Chinook on the pressure testing if it's 90 wt gear oil on the ground .
  17. Yes they fit any big BODY CANNON DOWNRIGGERS with the 1.125 dia. inch boom
  18. Hello, my son has it in his head that he wants to catch catfish. He has not caught any yet. I am planning on taking him to the seneca river either launching out of montezuma or port byron. Can anyone tell me what area would be better? It's a 60+ mile long river. I am mostly a troller, so not a very accomplished catfish person. If anyone knows any good areas on that river this time of year, I would appreciate any info. I am assuming that the catfishing scene is not as secretive as most other types of fishing. Lol.
  19. River herring aka alewives, have a completely different flavor then sea herring. Sea herring are full of fat and are far better eating.
  20. Anyone have any knowledge on the following: If an east wind is pushing the surface water, how far down does this affect a west current? I could not get an answer from the "learned" people who study water.
  21. 36" 19-6lbs. Revived and back to the deep..till we fight again!
  22. I eat it every morning. We used to fish the Hudson out of Kingston In May. First we’d use Sabiki rigs on ultralights to catch Herring up in the Cree and then use them to target stripers in the main stem. If a herring kicked the bucket we used it for cut bait or, often enough, they went home to get filleted and pickled
  23. My guess would be the lower shift shaft seal. Pressure test the sterndrive. That will tell the story
