  1. We are in the fingerlakes area and have delt with a fella near Interlaken that I won't go back to......... The drain plug was not installed right from the factory, so I bought a replacement. There is a special tool needed for the installation. Took it to this fella and he mangled the one I bought and charged me for the one he had to replace it with + time- just didn't sit right. Same fella stores boats for customers. A friend had a family of squirrels move into the cuddy of his boat while in storage there (mass destruction). All the repair shop owner said was sorry.............. Hank runs his business by the golden rule! That is where I now make the trek to.
  2. Dis the Bush administration initiate the gasoline/ethenol effort?
  3. On the lamb........... is that code for wearing rubber boots to slide the legs into and velcro gloves for extra grip when the mood is right??? That's full blown redneck right there............
  4. Here is the thread I was refering to......... viewtopic.php?f=12&t=34992&start=15 Hermit- I wish I knew. Between home repairs, coaching sports and the hunting season, I may not get it installed til spring.......... I believe you earned a few fishing chips this derby season that would go along way to one of these units............. Being that boats are a money pit, I put all lucky earnings back into the pit (would not of considered it other wise).
  5. Do a search, I think the open forum of the gear form had a discussion on this topic/ price range. I made a post on there about a deal that I got on a 788 Hummingbird. My research lead me to this unit and I do the same fishing as you. I have not put it on the boat yet, don't know how much better it is than my Lowrance..........
  6. Hope it's realized that these are "first world problems"...... -We are loosing too many young fishermen other interests......... - The trimming of State funds that support the DEC, who support us......... - (agreed) - Invasives........
  7. Pete- What a sight! More and more Eagles and Osprey on Cayuga!. Last duck season I shot a drake mallard that was 1/2 dead. Before I could get my kayak to finish him off, an adult Eagle swooped him up. Took every ounce of energy for that bird to make it to the trees for breakfast. This happened between Dean's and Sheldrake. Where did you spot your bird? Lavarock

    Skaneateles Skaneatles

Locals say they use marshmellos and worms - I'm sure this won't help your trolling effort
  9. Hermit- makes alot of sense. Lake turn overs can have big effects on current. Also when the wind pushes water to one end or the other, heavy currents develop when that flow is returning to the other end. Has anyone noticed areas of the lake that seem to have currents set-up all year no matter the weather? I remember Seneca had some strong year around currents around peach orchard. How about Cayuga? Lavarock
  10. Mans best friend....... as a lab owner I know just of the special things you mention. It's tough to top a quality lab. Hang in there- let's hope he's found the pheasant fields forever......
  11. Navionics rep. told me the Hot Maps Premium East was the way to go (1 ft countours for Cayuga and Seneca - maybe other fingers?) Amazon has them for $146 free ship. Just like to hear from users that this is the way to go, anyone?
  12. May a fine mermaid toting a 12er pop out of an engine cowl today! - Happy Birthday Hank
  13. Thanks Joe- Cashed in a few fishing chips and bought the Hummingbird 788 you mentioned above. Thanks for the tip - by far the best price around. Any suggestion on a good retailer for the Navionics cards? It sounds like the Hot Maps Premium East is the best bet for Cayuga / Seneca fishing and occasional Ontaro fishing. Thanks, Lavarock
  14. Here is the DEC's take on this from the 2011 DEC Cayuga lake Diary Program. (I highly encourage folks to do this program if you are not already) Incidence of sea lamprey attacks on lake trout in the 2011 survey was very low. One wound and one mark were observed on the 46 lake trout in a 23.6 inch to 25.6 inch index group. This was well below our target level for lamprey wounding on lake trout in this length interval. Sea lamprey wounding on Cayuga Lake salmonids continues to be low, but there will be a noticeable increase in wounds in 2012 because a fairly large year class of lampreys, born in Cayuga Inlet in 2007, has begun entering Cayuga Lake as parasitic adults. We have opted to “ride this out†and not do an expensive lampricide treatment because we anticipate the impacts to the lake fishery will not be as extensive as in the past. Although there are relatively abundant young sea lampreys (ammocoetes) in Cayuga Inlet, our assessments indicate they are not as abundant as they were prior to our treatments in 1986 and 1996 (see graph on next page). In addition, the size of the juvenile lampreys varies depending on the habitat they are in, which means their migration to the lake occurs over a few years, rather than all at once. Given this, we expect that the fishery should be able to absorb the impacts of this lamprey year class with far less mortality of trout and salmon than we experienced in the past. What remains to be determined, however, is the abundance of sea lamprey larvae resulting from upstream escapement of spawning lamprey during a high water event in the Inlet in spring 2011. I certainly hope the DEC has a handle on this. In addition, the DEC plans to stock 5,000 less lakers in 2013. The fact that 8 lb lakers ruled the derby boards this year makes me wonder. 2-5 year's ago, 10 -12 lb lakers ruled the derby boards. Lavarock
  15. Great info. Any thoughts on if DI is woerth the extra $ for deep water jigging (50-100')?
  16. Way to include the whole family in the weekend. Kade's ear to ear grin says it all Sure is better than the kids attached to electronic devices for the weekend.
  17. Thanks for the post. I believe the hoss rainbow was caught on a sawbelly or smelt. Great to hear the bait guys getting good fish!
  18. Going south from Goose watch is Buttonwood, then thirsty owl, then sheldrake point. You should be lit enough by then to hit Omalley's for some food (few more miles south) As stated, have the winery phone numbers handy and give them a call to get picked up. Enjoy
  19. A big Thanks to the Salvation Army as well for putting this on. I entered this derby knowing that I may not fish as all. I view the derby as a donation to a great organization -Thanks for all the work you do!. Happened to be able to squeeze in 2.5 hours in the gail force winds saturday and lucked out hooking a solid smally jiggin deep - ya just never know..........
  20. Keep at it JJBatt - When starting jigging, the key is time on the water. If you put in your time the pieces will come together. Sooner or later you will also hit a trip when any thing you put down there gets a hit (not just a look). Agreed Alec - this last weekend was very slow for us. We did have a first though. My fishing buddy landed a 4 pound largemouth off of a baitball in 80 feet of water - you just never know...............
  21. I troll and jig. I can relate to the limited mobility while trolling a bunch of rods and have had my fair share of problems with other boats. This year while jigging North of Long point, a troller with a boat around 30' trolled between me another fella jigging 100 feet away. Way to close in my opinion. As mentioned there are plenty of boaters that think driving on the lake is the same as driving a car on the highway. As Hermit mentioned. Give the Knob "your a bone head" soapbox speech and hope he / she gets it....... Some will - some won't - but ya gotta try...
  22. Thanks LOU Members! You all tipped me onto Hank. Just picked up my boat last week. Hank did a hell of a job on my outboard, 2 days later took I took the Lunker in a local tourney! I'll go out on a limb here and say Hank's the four leaf clover of wrenchin'. Broke or not, have Hank work on yer boat just before any tourney for a garenteed board fish!
  23. I also want to extend a THANK YOU to the organizers of the toury and the fellow fisherman that share the fishing passion. My long time friend and fishing partner Gordie! Scott / John - (Mower) - Nice to finally meet you and great work on the camp. Barney and Bear - Thanks for the scale work and the usual BSing I would like to extend special gratitude to Hank from L&M Marine. You treat fellow fisherman right. He had my boat motor together just two days before the derby and she runs like a top! Alec- Nice to see you in true form again! We'll have to wet some lines at some point. With work and home construction jobs it's been a long 2 year fishing dry spell for me. To feel the adrenaline rush start with a pounding hook set, the drag screaming surges, the anticipation of the scoop of the net and the concluding shakes was the high that this tired hammer swinger needed! Here is the pix of the spotted wonder! Chris
  24. Welcome back Hermit! Great to hear that your back in the action. One of the main reasons that I have primarily switched to jigging is fealing the hook set! You are simply robbed of this sensation while trolling. As noted, some species just need to be trolled for productivity. For those of you new at this, time on the water is key! Lavarock
  25. Glad to hear about this. It was a good event the few years that they had it. Timely with the red cross derby throwing in the towel this year......
