  1. Took my dog out with me a few evenings ago. They were crazy on him. Had to leave after fishing about 15 mins. Sent from my SM-J737V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. I find that deet doesn't work very well on them. Been using Sawyer Products with Picaridin. Seems to work better on them. Available at Gander. Sent from my SM-J737V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. Damn ankle biter Vampire flies. They are even out here in the morning now. I don't remember these flies years ago in the 80s and early 90s. Is it just me getting old and memory going bad or does anybody else feel that way. Sent from my SM-J737V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. Garrymny. Couldn't agree with you more. Now you will need to watch for damage to your property and, unfortunately yourself. It has become a sad state of affairs lately with intolerance of other views Sent from my SM-J737V using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Not much yesterday. A bit of "cotton". Nothing like last year Sent from my SM-J737V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. Yes, going to pull it today to check. Sent from my SM-J737V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. The link that Mudflat pointed to explains it all. I should have continued to pump in more after I put in the top vent screw until the reservoir started to fill. Then filled the rest of the reservoir after some was pumped in from below. Makes perfect sense. The 12 oz. pulled in is just filling the voids since I didn't pump past the vent screw. 8. Going to have the boat on the trailer soon for Smart Tab installation and I had planned to check for water. Thanks again. Sent from my SM-J737V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. Filled from bottom to vent hole, put in plugs, than filled reservoir from top. So my inexperience with the reservoir shows. Now I feel better and just wait till the air all bleeds out. Thank you for the info. Sent from my SM-J737V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. I recently purchased a boat with a 2003 Mercruiser that has a gear oil reservoir in the doghouse. When I purchased it last fall I removed the out drive to check everything as I have done approx 50 times on previously owned Mercruisers and OMC Cobras in the last 40 years. Of course drained the oil and replaced it. No sign of water in the oil, looked like new. Also drained the reservoir. After reassembly, filled the oil from bottom to top vent screw as usual and filled the reservoir. Since using the boat it has pulled in a full reservoir and 1/4 of gear oil so far. Seems to drop about 1/8 inch per fishing trip. Probably pulled in about 10 or 12 ounces so far. No sign of oil anywhere on the water or elsewhere. I have not had any previous Mercruisers with the reservoir, so no experience with it. I am wondering if this is normal to fill any leftover spaces in the out drive up to the reservoir. Any comments before I pull the boat out and start looking for leaks would be appreciated. Sent from my SM-J737V using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  12. From a 2013 Yamaha T9.9. Good for spare as is or can be repaired. $25 Sent from my SM-J737V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. My neighbor bought the same boat 2 years ago with a 100 merc that had issues. I recommended he treat it like a boat anchor and put on a new Yamaha 4 stroke. He bought a new 90 Yamaha VMax. Incredable engine !! Saved lots of trouble and will never look back. Sent from my SM-J737V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. I guess I am getting older than I think I am. Cant remember colors and facts from mounting a few month ago. You are correct, the total scan transducer has a black plug and goes into ch2 black connector. Channel 1 connector is blue and not used in my case. Only difference is that the transducer body has blue plastic inserts as shown on the picture under water. Sent from my SM-J737V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. On my HDS Carbon the connector that the total scan transducer plugs into is blue and the connector on the transducer cable is blue. The blue connector on the Carbon is ch2. The blue connector on the total scan transducer wire wire will not plug into the black connector. The black which is ch1 and is a different connector type altogether. 16. I have a Smokercraft Ultima 192 that has a tendency to porpoise when there is a slight rolling lake even when trimmed way down. Does anyone have the smart tabs and do they work as advertised? Sent from my SM-J737V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. Just installed a hds 7 carbon with the total scan transducer and was having problems similar to what you described. Couldn't find the total scan transducer listed on the sonar installation feature. Finally found a video showing that the source must be selected to connector 2 (blue) for the total scan. Voila, the choice for total scan came up automatically and it works great. I think the black connector is source #1. Maybe that was accidentally changed. Easy to accidentally change something like that and not realize it Sent from my SM-J737V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. I accidentally cut into my fishawk x4d cable but not right thru. Make sure the shield cables are also connected. The x4d has a set of wires that have the foil shield with a bare shield wire setup inside another set of wires with another foil bare wire shield setup. Must make sure that is intact. A floating shield will be big problems. Sent from my SM-J737V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. Don't know about 10 rpm increments on lower hp models. I definitely know it is 50 rpm increments on my 70. Sent from my SM-J737V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. Works great. I have a 2014 F70LA that I hooked one up myself. The connector is there on any late model four stroke that is available in a tiller model. Mine is not a tiller but I bought a single pole, double throw switch and wired it into the existing connector. I believe the tiller models come with the switch standard. It will go from 600 rpm to 1000 rpm in 50 rpm increments. Yamaha now offers a switch and wiring harness setup that can be bought for non tiller models up to 115 hp. 21. I have a 2003 mercruiser 4 cyl 3.0. Looking to adj idle mixture screw. It has a cap over it that doesn't pop off easily. It is on such that it wiggles a bit but wont come off. Thought I would ask if there is a procedure to remove the cap before I get rough and break something Sent from my SM-J737V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. Hate when the phone picks a misspelled word for you. Meant gunwale mount Sent from my SM-J737V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. SOLD. I have 2 Cannon 18 in gunwale mounting tracks. They fit into gunwale rod holders. Great for quick removal of multiple rod holders or riggers. These are new, never used , still in boxes. I don't think they are even available new any more. $60 each firm. Mexico area. Sent from my SM-J737V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  24. Electrolysis has nothing to do with the "softness" or "weakness" of metals but is totally controlled by how Noble a metal is. This is the term used to define its resistance to corrosion (oxidation). Gold is a very soft and mechanically very "weak" metal but is very noble. It can lay on a sunken ship in the ocean for a thousand years and look like new. Magnesium is one of the least noble metals and oxidizes very easily. In fact, a thin strip of magnesium will flash burn when subjected to a flame, ie rapid oxidation. Aluminum is of low nobility so you need something lower to corrode faster, ie Magnesium. Brass has a generally high nobility and stainless steel, depending on the type, Is very high. Sent from my SM-J737V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. I will check how many I have on next trip to camp and let u know. I think I have a few 28 size also. Sent from my SM-J737V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
