  1. I would start with checking the timing and make sure that it is properly set. That could easily bring up the rpm and save fuel. If it is only trolling you want you should go down considerably so you can troll slowly at a slightly higher rpm Three or four blade props have more to do with hole shot and little to do with trolling Your boat size would commonly have the 14 diameter X 19 pitch size prop, maybe 21 but that is less common. Every number you go up or down makes a difference of about 200 rpm, so if you go from 14x19 to 14 x16 you would bring up your rpm roughly 600 up. In your case from 3900 to 4500. That is.. according to calculations on paper, but boats do not know how to read so you should take that as an approximate specially since those calculations are based on maximum speed/ rpm when the boat is on plane. But still ,it would be your best rule of fist.
  2. Before you go up from 60 to 90, you should check the capacity that the boat specs will allow you to put on your boat. Too much weight or too much power may become very problematic in case you go beyond the coastguard ratings/specs for your your boat and will almost automatically void your insurance coverage in case of an accident on the water.
  3. Any old lawnmower battery hooked up to the plus and minus of your battery hookups with your perko in the right position will do the trick. You can also pull your car close enough to the boat so you can connect jumper cables to the plus and minus of your battery hookups and that should do the trick. As long as you provide power to the system it will work
  4. If you have a good gps map on your rig ,it will show the the pipe and where it splits up. It is straight in front of the treatment plant. It is a great place to catch brown trout...
  5. Gambler is on the intake end not the outgoing. The treatment is very basic indeed. Lime was pumped in with the sewage. Just to make things a bit clearer. The sewer from Henrietta is a mixture of runoff that comes from the catch basins on the roads (not all of them) , ground water and raw sewer. It normally is treated at the Frank Van Lare treatment plant and then released. But the amount of runoff from all those catch basins just completely overwhelmed the sewer pipe lines. The level became so high that it started overflowing into the overflow system . That means that the overflow is actually quite diluted because of all the rainwater that is mixed in at this point. Still not good, but not as bad as it sounds at first
  6. that should have a pm. Now it is in the public domain and any fire on your property will be seen as susupicious.
  7. Dry gas usually is based on alcohol. It does what ethanol does. You should use drygas in 2 cases. First ,when you know that you have water in your tank and do not want it to freeze. That way you prevent small drops of ice to clog up your injectors/carburetors. Second, when you know there is water in the tank, dump the drygas in there so the water will get absorbed into the gasoline just before you use your vehicle If you had to use drygas because of one of these reasons , you should run your tank as low as you can without getting stuck then replace your or empty out your water/fuel separator and start with fresh clean fuel I once tilted my boat/trailer as steep as possible so all the water and gunk in the tank made its way to the fuel pickup. and pumped all this gunk out through a clear plastic hose into a large glass bottle I kept on pumping until only gasoline came out of the hose.
  8. You just pointed out the problem with these "controlled" hunts. The "hunters". Since when does the fact that one is a policeman or fireman for that matter, make one a good and responsible hunter? Or is this often a little adventure thrown to people as a moral booster?
  9. As far as fines are concerned, yes that is laughable for some yet the same amount of money is a hardship for others. To equalize the punishment the judges should stick these people in jail for a week or so. That would be a far more equal punishment
  10. You should start your own thread
  11. Seafoam does not remove water. It prevents it from forming in the tank. If you want to remove water there is another product. I think it is called drygas. I never used so I have no opinion about it.
  12. There is a lot of misinformation and generalization on the gas front. First of all, do you have a big tank that sits in your boat? By all means go ethanol free because it is is in these bigger tanks that the ethanol will attract water and it will just slowly gather until it causes a problem.. Do you use 6 or 5 gallon removable tanks? You can use ethanol gas as long as you empty out your tanks at the end of the season. (stick it in your car tank and yes, you can dump 2 stroke gas in your car too. Just do it in small portions like a gallon or two at a time with each tank. It does not hurt the engine and it solves the disposal problem. Is your boat pre 2000? You must change out all your fuel hoses because the hoses used before 2000 will be eaten by the ethanol and start leaking. The same goes for fiberglas fuel tanks. The ethanol will melt the glue that was used to glue them together. Trailered boats usually have less of a problem compared to boats that lay in a slip. That is because the humidity by the slipped boats is much higher than the humidity next to your house or garag Personally, I never use stabil because there are better products on the market. I prefer a product called "seafoam" because it not only treats the gas,it also cleans the carburetors.

  14. I only fish for perch in fall and in early spring. but yes I mostly use these whenever I go after perch. When the perch are out on the flats, the minimites work very good. When I fish in between weed beds or near steep drop offs I just try everything until I find what they like best. Another thing I catch a lot of perch on is the eyes of perch. After you catch one , you kill it, remove the eyes and stick one on a #6 or #8 hook. You must always make sure that your bait moves around a bit, unless the school is in an open place between weedbeds. Then the perch usually hit the bait on the way down. When you get the first hit, just set the hook, but leave the line in the water and more often than not, some other perch will hit the other hooks
  15. The answer is simple. It is a myth that there is alcohol in Stabil. These are the ingredients in Stabil Distillates (petroleum), hydrotreated light (64742-47-8) Naphthalene (91-20-3) Ethylene glycol monobutyl ether (111-76-2)
  16. I use minimite plastic with a maggot on the hook. They imitate small shrimp which are a perch’s favorite food. The hooks are very small.
  17. There is no state launch at the south end of Owasco lake. As for launching in the creek, It is quite close to the Marina. Where you would normally swing left to go to the marina, you can also go straight onto the dirt road into the heron rookery nature reserve. After a bit you should be able to turn east toward the creek and launch in there. Beware though, it is swampy and quite often muddy. You do not want to get stuck in there.
  18. That looks like a good choice, just make sure that it will work with your monitor.
  19. When you find a school you should anchor off to the side and cast upwind with a slide bobber on your line so you so can control your depth. The wind will push your bait over the school. Another way is to drift over the school without any engine and just go back to your beginning point by circling around. I mostly use mini-mites tipped with a maggot. It is best to cast into water that before the school so the bait can sink to the depth you want before it reaches the school while drifting or casting. The bigger perch are always deeper than the small ones.
  20. Perch is high up so a side view would help, lakers are deep down so a smaller down aimed cone is needed. I once owned a hummingbird transducer that had a choice of 3 different cones and gave sideways, 45 degree and 90 degree cones. In your place I would look for something similar. The guys at Krenzer marine in Sodus Bay will be your best bet.
  21. Perch like to feed on small shrimp living on sandy/sediment bottom near weedbeds. That is found where big creeks come into the lake.
  22. In winter when they drop the lake level that place is not so easy to launch from
