I just read Gator's report about the quality of his new riggers and they sound impressive. However, I am just as impressed by the Penn electric riggers that for the past 30 years have performed with amazing accuracy and reliability. I tried the Big Jon , but felt that they were too close to the boat , the cannons , but there always are problems with the up and down button , The Scotty is too bulky for my taste and the autostop is not something I trust. But the Penns are narrow, powerful and are slow enough when stopping so as not to snap the cable . The auto stop is instantly adjustable by turning a wheel. I have four of them and enough spare parts for the next 20 years. Does anybody aside from DRLFC and me still use these? Or am I just defending something that everybody else dumped in the trash can of time? If you have any of them sitting in your barns gathering spider webs , give me shout. I am interested in taking them of your hands for a reasonable price.

The replacement fuel lines have special requirements. They are not the automotive type, specially the filler hose. I got mine through the I-boats store, but West marine also has them. And yes, they are expensive but a fire on a boat in the middle of a lake is very expensive. It is a bit hard for me to explain how to remove and replace that hose with a text, but if you sent me a PM with your phone # I will call you and explain.

Niagara Outdoor Expo
rolmops replied to GAMBLER's topic in Tournament Talk, Shows, Events & Seminars
I'm interested in trying Big Ditch. What time does the expo open? -
Right now , what mostly endangers my outdoors plans is ICE. The kind that floats on the water and seems to get thicker and thicker by the day. I fear the political decisions that decide when to pull ice barrier in Lake Eerie. I have bad dreams about trying to reach the Green Can while being surrounded by ice bergs that come thundering down the Niagara Falls and race down the River, spreading out exactly where I want to drop my lines. As for all the political decisions... I do believe that the soup is never eaten as hot as it is served. Most of all these plans tend to die a slow death or get buried in a desk or get lost between sub committees, or just decapitated by change of politics after elections .

Thank you for exposing deliberate misinformation. I'm not sure that only money is behind this. It looks more like an effort to steer voter sentiment toward anti democratic party sentiment with the upcoming elections in mind. Lying or misleading has always been a powerful tool to get onto or stay on the gravy train. I suggest reading "Breakfast of Champions" by Kurt Vonnegut to get a preview of what may be waiting for us.

But you will probably set of the alarms at airport security because of the heavy metals..... (just kidding)

for sale : usa WTB - White Diamond 8 / 8'6

Do you mean the Penn ? I'm asking because I have a Penn Black Diamond, but it is for striped bass fishing -
That is less than half the story. Very often statistics are created with misleading information. A classic one is the styrofoam statistic. One can make the point that styrofoam does not add much to a landfill because it does not weigh very much. It is very easy to make a statistic proving that fact. The volume of the styrofoam is never mentioned.

By the way, the price of bread went down because of the tariffs. How is that possible? The tariffs were imposed and in reaction to that, a very, very big customer of agricultural products decided to take his business elsewhere and the grain that would normally have been exported is now flooding the local markets. So now supply is bigger than demand.

rolmops replied to signalman's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
I would be interested if it has the newer smaller probe. -
There are a ton of online dealers who sell new engines online. to hang another outboard on a transom does not require a doctorate. What it does require is a cherry picker or a sturdy tree with a hoist. A one ton capacity cherry picker is less than $200 at Harbor freight. Often a new engine turns out to be cheaper than all the local repairs. This is mostly because the online dealers compete in the Florida market where there is stiff competition.

Recommendation for kid fishing rod/reel
rolmops replied to Finaddict's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
I would definitely go with the Zebco. Not so much because it is a better or worse rod and reel ,but it is a great help in the developing the motor skills of casting and releasing the line at the right time without the complications open face reels. It is probably even better to go out and find a bunch of flat stones, go to a pond and start by teaching the kids how to throw stones so they skip on the water. It teaches eye hand combination skills with instant gratification when the stone skips and the more skips ,the better. once they get the hang of that, they are probably ready for closed reels and very soon afterwards, the open reels as well. -
you can find one on amazon

Garmin fish finder/transducer
rolmops replied to Thayer3047's topic in Welcome to Lake Ontario United - Fishing Forum
I do not remember the scroll speed off hand. Sometimes it depends a bit on the trolling speed. As for frequency, when comparing it to the Furuno , I run it at either 50 or 200 because those are the Furuno frequencies. I mostly have the Garmin aimed a bit forward while the Furuno is ever so slightly backward , specially when trolling deep, so I don't loose sight of the torpedoes. When fishing shallow, I change frequency on the Garmin in order to have a wider view, which I cannot really do with the Furuno. With the Garmin aimed a bit forward and being able to mark fish forward and sideways I often can change course a bit so the marks will get covered by the lines off the boards. -
Garmin fish finder/transducer
rolmops replied to Thayer3047's topic in Welcome to Lake Ontario United - Fishing Forum
The 56 is a very nice transducer. Very often it is the scroll speed that makes or brakes what you see on the screen. The slower you set it, the longer the lines, The faster, the shorter the lines. I have both a Garmin 93SV with a 56 transducer and a Furuno 587 with an Airmar 260 transducer, which is a one kilowatt transducer. The furuno is arguably one of the best fishfinders around and together with the Airmar 260 , it is a powerhouse. But the Garmin with the 56 has the same quality when set up properly. -
People usually do not react to 1 year old threads. Try and start a new thread, that might work better. What happened to this board? I think that it has become much less of an information source and much more of a sales point. People are just not as interested in passing on information as they were 5 years ago and with AI soaking up all possible info, people have become weary of putting anything online.

Why aren't we back to regular stocking levels?
rolmops replied to Yankee Troller's topic in Open Lake Discussion
The food supply of alewives is constantly changing because of the gobies and mussels who have their own ups and downs. In how far does the stocking policy of kings take those yearly changes into account? -
There is one simple thing that caught my attention. It says "price drop" and then way farther down the price says $22500 .When the price is not mentioned on the top , a lot of people feel weary. Now it seems that the price was dropped to $22500. I had to scroll all the way down to the last post on your thread to discover that you went down to $17500. If I would have seen 17500 right in the title as the asking price at the top of the thread I would have started checking the thread. Maybe edit your post and refresh it so it gets back to the top.

There is a fairly healthy population of Atlantic salmon in the St. Lawrence. Mostly brought back by the Canadians utilizing the Ottawa River and the Canadian Maritimes. It seems not connected to the Lake Ontario population, but sooner or later they will start intermingling.

for sale : usa Wanted Planer board mast
rolmops replied to Fatyaz's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
I think that I have a "Big Jon" mast . I'll check my garage tomorrow. do you need just the mast or the reels as well? If it needs to be shipped, what is your zip code? -
I just googled "Kings in the St.Lawrence river" and the AI came up with the answer that there is a self sustaining population of kings that has originally come out of Lake Ontario , but now migrates within the the St. Lawrence and I presume the Atlantic ocean. They are described as an invasive species, although the article does not mention that they compete with atlantic salmon. According to the article they are found all the way to Messina,NY and Cornwall,ON Has anyone here caught or heard of Kings being caught in the St. Lawrence east of the dams?
