  1. Thanks for keeping us posted 58 Johnson.
  2. Nice going Ed and company....sure have had those browns dialed in this season Ed
  3. Nice fish....looks as though the bigger ones came out of the deeper water from the looks of the eyes
  4. Admiral Byrd and I set out this morning in my boat after he got his beauty sleep (much needed by the way) looking for rainbows and browns. We took some temps in front of the pump house 70 degrees surface and 50's down 65 ft. or so. Set out tx44 with spoon leadcore with 6 colors, a wire rig a large Deeper Diver dipsey with green/chrome Spinny and white fly and a braid rig with medium dipsey with green flasher and green tinsel fly and two riggers with spoons and sliders with spoons set at 45 and 60 ft. Trolled for long time without anything happening. Tried lure changes and depth adjustments as well as distances back....nothing the whole time out with downriggers. Had good hit on Spinny and got off before we picked up the rod but it was pumping pretty good. Then one small laker on Spinny/fly combo released unharmed. A few "hits and gones" along the way on the wire rig Nothing on braid. A few hours into it we decided to start adding a Seth Green rig then two instead of the braid and a leadcore. Had a brief hit on rig jug rig checked and gone. Then the rig fired again and it looked like a small laker or something let it set and then a few minutes later it was another hit...I figured another "snake" laker so started reeling in and then something started taking line feeling heavier all the time....got down to the 3rd leader and it was a about a 4 lb bow and Bob then spotted another fish turning on its side below it and it was another bow about 5 lbs and a nice looking male with a bit of a kype. We released the first bow at the back of the boat unharmed and then Bob held up the 5 pounder for a pic before release and the pic below is what happened next....(the fish survived and took off like a shot when released). Fun day with total ball busting the entire time. Nothing like a day onthe pond with the Admiral....if you survive it....
  5. Good luck out there fellas and stay safe. I'm waiting until the AM to decide on going out here (Canandaigua). It was raining real good with pretty good wind driving it awhile ago when I was in town and the barometric pressure has stayed at 29.89...hopefully it will start changing a bit by morning.
  6. the appearance of the so-called "hump" looks more to me like a shadow effect of the photo and it isn't quite clear from the photo if the upper nose section that appears "curved" downward is actually a "kype" indicating a male either because of the photo quality. Wish also we could see the tail clearer to see if the spots are on the whole tail or just top.
  7. Nick and Theresa, I too have immensely enjoyed the reports and videos you folks have put together and posted. I know I already privately thanked you for your efforts with the Vets in the Salmon Slam but on behalf of all vets I'd like to do so publicly here. You put a lot of time and effort into it and it is a heck of a contribution to make. Have a safe journey with the boat down east and home to Pennsy as well. Going to try any Fall striper action on the Hudson before actually putting the boat away? Les
  8. Too bad the cannonball wasn't a grenade
  9. Thanks Hermit...very interesting stuff. Too bad they can't select a non-trout stream and bombard it with pheromones, get the things in there and block it off with a wire mesh screen temporarily and treat it with lampracide.....of some type that would kill adults as well as the amoecete stage.
  10. I'm with Tim on that one.....
  11. Sweet! I think you'll be a "happy camper".
  12. Krockodiles, Cleos (esp the glow in the dark type), Mepps Syclops, Daredevil spoons, Yellow or red metallic Rooster Tail Spinners, etc. Usually heavier spoons that sink quickly and bright colored or glow finish and some silver or bright deep divers/cranks. There are a million others too and I'm sure others will have their favorites.
  13. Thanks hermit.....I did try the link too but something is still amiss with it.
  14. It is probably a matter of Lake O being a much much larger body of water so they may not appear as concentrated but keep in mind Lake O is where the lampreys originally came from in the Finger Lakes (via the canal system).
  15. Biden should be a prime candidate for a brain transplant....even an opossum brain would be an improvement
  16. I knew there was some reason I've only had outboards.....only joking....
  17. or even a sailboat....
  18. Poking a rabbit with a pole can be kinda like poking a grizzly sometimes poke pole....you never know whats going to come of it Sometimes it is more productive just leaving well enough alone in the berry patch.....
  19. To answer your question Sammyslayer I would take my chances with Seneca right now ... although fishing hasn't been all that easy there either. The wind and weather in general seems to have raised hell with the fishing all over.
  20. Nice photography too Stinger!
  21. Try Amazon to purchase.- 7 strand ss wire I prefer the brown or greyish color over the bright stainless. Malin, Accustrand (made by Cablestrand Corp), and Mason are some of the better known brands but there is also Blood Run 30 lb test , http://www.ebay.com/itm/BLOOD-RUN-TACKLE-7-STRAND-STAINLESS-TROLLING-WIRE-30-1000-SPOOL-/181198162517 Put about 100ft or so of 30 lb Big game mono first to protect the spindle ofthe reel spool and then 1000 ft. wire. Check out videos on Youtube to fuse the two together. You should be able to get 1000 ft. of7 strand on the 320 as I have a 310 with 10 colors of leadcore on it and the wire should take up less space than that.
  22. I didn't recognize the name Arima at first ...but the makers Defiance are a class act in the boat building industry...they are masters at engineering and build a great boat...That combination you have (boat and motor) is hard to beat...especially for Finger Lakes fishing....
  23. I've been thinking many of those same thoughts Gator. It wasn't just the matures either...it didn't seem like all that many silvers and juveniles were caught either so you have to wonder about several year classes possibly being affected or is there something even more pervasive going on out there...?
  24. Good thanks. That 50 Merc is a real workhorse and is one of the better ones ever made and it trolls down real nice. Yeah there are a lot of superstitions in boating and fishing but most of them are just that superstitions. As Joe said and considering what you want to do I'd launch from Sampson because each of the species you mentioned are usually encountered somewhere nearby there and you can duck into the marina pretty easily if things get unpredictable ( thunder storms etc.). You can nearly always find lakers right out from the marina to your right as you are going out...just have to look around a bit to find the depth....they are usually very bottom oriented there and to be successful you'll have to run close to the bottom for them and I'd suggest going on an angle outward so you don't hang up on bottom staying near the bottom (cowbells with peanuts work great out there even off downrigger up tight to the ball). You'll also find the lakers just below the thermocline. Right about nowand well into October you may run into good sized browns in the same area doing the same things browns only running a cheater a few feet above the main lure. For rainbows I'd troll north around the first point (Pontious Point) with the riggers and then go in shallower with the lines run back longer say 50 ft. for rainbows and the occasional landlock. If you look closely you'll see a creek on the shoreline (Reeders) and it would pay to work that area real good varying your depth and speed. The bows like variations in speed and if you have any Sutton spoons in medium to small sizes (or others similar to them especially with real silver finish) Reds blues and green colors seem to work well but I'd keep the spoons on the small/medium sizes not magnums etc. There are many areas south and across the lake to the north and south but I'd give that a try first and see what happens. Hopefully I haven't offended ERabbit (Ed) by not telling you to go south toward Lodi P.S> You have to be careful running the dipseys close to bottom (without hanging up) as well out in front of Sampson especially if you don't run from shallow to deep but there are often some bigger browns of interest there. I know I've ignored the whole concept of temps but right now I have no idea what the picture is out there.
