  1. Good one!
  2. Merc or Quicksilver Power Trim and Steering fluid
  3. Good advice and also if fishing for lakers at all the Dreamweaver 124 mm Deeper Divers
  4. The Round Gobies are something of an enigma. They appear to have both positives and negatives attached to them. On the one hand they may eat several dozen Zebra Mussels in a day, and serve as a food source for browns and lakers, but on the other hand they are known to eat the eggs of other fish, take over their spawning beds, ingest toxins from bottom feeding and possibly poison some birds that feed on them with botulism. Cormorants seem to heavily feed on them so it would be nice to poison off some of those things.
  5. x2 If you want the very best around and reasonable.
  6. Just out of curiosity what is done with the sheds? I know the straighter ones used to be used for knife handles...
  7. Sweet looking setup
  8. Yeah where and how the concrete slab of the ramp ends can be critical if a trailer axle goes over the end of it. (Don't ask how I know that)
  9. That is the kind of info that helps all of us and thanks for sharing it
  10. construction of some type going on all blocked off
  11. iT IS CLOSED
  12. I'm a Whaler guy through and through but you may want to look at a used Starcraft Islander. Unfortunately a Whaler hardtop in the size you desire is over a quarter of a mil new and very few are around used that haven't been in salt water.

  14. In the past I have just cut the points off them so the weight difference isn't critical and they don't hang up with that done.
  15. There was a pic recently posted that showed the ramp was blocked off with construction stuff going on there so not usable
  16. Very well said Brian. This is at the heart of it. Luckily we have some very knowlegeable, creative, and generous people on this website; and especially some of the charter guys that freely share things that work and things that don't work so well vastly accelerating the learning curve for all of us and improving the sport in many ways. This website is special and so are the people here.
  17. For some of us the leap has been even more extreme from still fishing with live bait in the 50's and 60's to copper jerking in the 60's and 70's then making your own planer boards for top lining in about 1975, Riviera manual downriggers in 1976 with 8 lb weights (for use on a buddy's boat as I didn't have one) and electrics and 15 ft outriggers in 1984; all from a little 13 ft. Boston Whaler I bought used in 1979 which then saw action out out in the middle of Lake O for salmon. This stuff has come light years in a relatively short time frame
  18. This thread is a good example of the fact that there can be many effective ways of doing things and it largely depends on your own level of confidence in whatever it is you are doing. This is true of much of fishing and the reason for the existence of so many different knots
  19. The swivel recommended above is for the terminus of the leader. It might be a bit smoother using a #8 SPRO barrel swivel between the main line and the leader (about 50 lb test so strong but small)
  20. You've received excellent information and the only thing I would add is to use a SOLID RING ball bearing swivel snap; especially with lighter lines as the line can nest in the groove of the split ring type and sever the line. As long as your drag is working well you should be fine.
  21. Looks like a very interesting and creative idea. A couple things I would suggest with that modification: Get a Penn power handle for the reel, and be especially alert to the rod tip and line as with that short of a rod you may have trouble spotting small fish on the rod as there won't be much tip motion. Probably be able to go with 8-16 oz weights since little drag from boat. Might also want to consider a safety line attached to the rod given its short length and light weight Good luck with it cool idea.
  22. That's real good news Nick thanks for the update. My wife and I and dog were at the park a couple times during the Fall and that marina is the best I have ever seen in all my travels fresh or salt water
