  1. Like Sk8man says but you can also use an OR16 clip to secure to the downrigger cable. Basically the split ring of the OR16 clip will go into the quick snap swivel that goes around the main line. The OR16 clip is then secured to the rigger cable. When a fish strikes the clip releases and the whole thing slides down with the slider leader.
  2. Right now with water cold stick baits (like reef runners), and spoons work well. Some guys will use meat. I will always have at least 1 or 2 F/F combos out. Blues/silvers are good colors this time of year. late June and July - mixed spread of spoons, F/F combos and meat. Some years spoons take the most fish, others F/F by a big margin. Green is a good color. August - bigger paddles, bright colors like red/orange/purple, more action. Typically use F/F as well as plugs. Spoons still work, so we always have one or two out. There is no distinct line where you say 1 type of bait is WAY better than the other. Only things that are steadfast for me is stickbaits in the spring and finish with them by end May, and plugs get introduced mid to late August. In between, anything goes.
  3. You really should get a sonar! And for sure you should have navionics on your phone as a minimum. Check the laws as well, in Canada you need to have a chart on you while navigating Lake O. People have been fined without one. Having said that, this bathymetry map may provide some information, but it doesn't replace a real chart. https://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/image/images/ontario_72.pdf
  4. I sure like my Lowrance HDS 7 Touch.
  5. He has nice spoons but man the customer service is poor. He promised me 3 spoons due to issues I had with a previous delivery and difficulty ordering some other spoons. It's been 2 months and I have written off getting those spoons. I don't need that strain in my life. There are other options.
  6. But then when you put the 2nd segment of leadcore in the water, you have 100 ft of mono in between the 2 lengths of core. This creates a lot of drag and lifts the core out of the water. So the overall depth won't be close to what you would have if you didn't have that 100 ft mono segment in between.
  7. Typically 24". Rule of thumb is 3 x length of your flasher/paddle. One thing I do to increase decrease action is change the location of the swivels on my SD's, to make it more or less agressive of a presentation. That's just because I couldn't bother continually adjusting my leader lengths on my flies.
  8. My VHF antenna is probably 5 ft from 2 gps units I have and my actually radio is about 2 ft away. I have no interference.
  9. I started with guidance from other local fishermen and then my own experience. I repeat what works. Lower baits are at 42F and higher baits are generally at 48F. It works pretty consintently for us. We target kings and that's what we normally get. Bows always come higher at the 48F to 54F range.
  10. Monel single strand is about the most difficult line you could use. 7 strand is way better than that. 19 strand is a little better than 7 and from some videos I saw of the torpedo weighted line it's remarkable better than 19 strand. So torpedo weighted line will be orders ofor magnitude better than single strand.
  11. If you don't have anything else to tell you down temp yes it is worth it.
  12. I'm thinking about it. Waiting for some real life feedback.
  13. I've stopped buying the dipsey divers with the removable disk, they're a pain. I've switched to walkers (or others) that just make a solid disk. I've also simplified to 124mm solid black.
  14. Those are really nice storage sheets. I like the protective sheet that goes over them too! Smart idea.
  15. First question is what kind of rod/tackle presentation works best. 1. wire dipsey 2. rigger 3. copper 4. leadcore If you said pick 2 rods, then for sure I'd buy 2 wire dipseys, and taloras would be the best on the market. If you said pick 4 rods, I'd say 2 wire dipseys and 2 riggers. If you don't have riggers I'd be tempted to get a 300' copper and a 7 color leadcore on inline planer boards. Talora is again best on the market for all of these duties. If you said pick 6 rods, I'd say 2 wire dipseys, 2 riggers and 300' copper and 7 color leadcore on inline planers.
  16. I use the uni knot, never have problems. I also use the polamar on lighter lines and it also is pretty good. Go uni, it's such an easy knot to do.
  17. So which one did you pick Iron Duke?
  18. Who knows what happened. One possibility is someone was cleaning it to take home and started the process of cutting the tail off when they lost grip of the fish and it ended up back in the water. Hopefully this was just an accident.
  19. Actually, now that I think about it, that's what I put in. Haven't had my boat in 6 months! LOL. Getting it back next week!
  20. I actually got mine from walker. You can get a pedestal to elevate the rigger. Cannon makes good tracks and pedestals.
  21. Candy Bubblegum Clown Chameleon All the above can obviously be ammended with UV, glow or mirage added.
  22. There's a bloody death Atommik fly that matches. For the water melon, I'd go with crinkle mirage, crinkle glow or pro/am.
  23. I've run Scotty Rod Master II Rod Holders for 4 seasons now on wire divers, rigger rods and copper/leadcore. No issues. None.
