  1. Moving the batteries on a boat that size will have minimal effect. Solid core and no foam flotation suggests the hull is not waterlogged.
  2. How long have you owned this boat and when did it start having these performance issues ? A boat that is hitting 5500 immediately coming out of the hole should be on plane right away, unless it has huge amounts of prop slippage. How many rpms are you seeing at WOT when on a full plane ? If you go to a higher pitch,in theory it will take you longer to get on a plane , that's the head scratcher as the 16 should jump, unless the diameter is 12 - ×13" . At any rate you are over revving it to death. Try borrowing some props before buying and verify tach accuracy.
  3. I believe the maximum RPM for that engine is 4400- 4800. If your hitting 5500 with a 16p there is something wrong . Before buying a prop I would verify the tach with a hand held one at the very least. The boat itself is underpowered so with a load it will be a slug coming out of the hole. But no way is it hitting 5500 and not popping up on plane. I wonder if you have spun your prop hub , that would allow the RPMs to hit 5500 or until you blow the engine and your planning speed would also be affected as the prop is always slipping. 4200 rpms should be close to WOT if propped correctly. I would borrow a prop before buying anything . Most boat's are set up to run 17-19" props. So it wouldn't surprise me if the PO didn't put that 16 on to compensate for it being light on the HP.
  4. Wouldn't be surprised if kids driving by with a remote trying all the garage doors in the area didn't set it off. Probably only a few frequencies for them. IF it was me I would unplug the auto and put a lock in the door track to prevent it from being opened. Then just use the man doors to get in and out of the garage. The burglers job is to know your and your neighbors work schedule and to see what might be sellable. A boat does not usually fit that description , a 4x4/ quad/dirt bike/sit down lawnmower does.
  5. Just to be clear, the closed cooling system on Mercruisers may be different. So check what you have, year built and how it compares to the excellent looking ones for sale.
  6. Your looking at 1800-2500 for a decent setup. They work off of a hydraulic pump that usually is installed between your power steering pump and hydraulic steering ram. The pump is hooked up to a mini computer that is tied into a sensor. The sensor will monitor pitch, yawl, direction , and other movements , they sense about 6-7 different movements.Cant remember them off the top of my head. A excellent add on if your pockets are deep enough.I believe someone on here had a post about how he made one himself ( lsst spring ? ) Myself I would go with the tried and proven.
  7. I prefer 12 vdc circuit breakers over fuses. Can be bought at NAPA or online. I do not like the flush mount power outlet,in most cases that has the power cords protruding from the sides of the gunwales and just get in the way . Better to have the connection tucked zip tied away under the gunwale .
  8. Your either going to have put in a 8" access port or make a bracket and hang it on the transom. A through hull lays on the bottom of hull and no holes are drilled. A in hull requires a hole cut . If my boats didn't come with in hulls I would of ,mounted them on the transom. Not big enough of a performance difference for me to cut a hole in the hull.
  9. Have a FCV 585 and a 1kw along with a 600 Airmar (or 650W can't remember ) in hulls ducers. The 650 works better on Ontario, regardless of the depth. Maybe it's ( 1 kw ) too strong, like overpowering small speakers with a oversized amp. Anyway I do not use the 1 KW and have read other post/ replies on here about the that ducer and most of them have the same thoughts. So the issue is the ducer, not the FCV, which is the only brand I will buy .
  10. Gunwale height is mostly determined by the height of the cockpit floor in relation to the scupper drain holes. They should be around 3-4 " above the waterline. Most .not all, of the better designed fishing boats will have the coaming pads hitting you from just above the knee caps to maybe mid thigh. It's easier to release and deal with fish at that height. I have never worried about waves coming over the transom with the gunwales like that, but I am in quality designed and built fishing platforms that have no problems in the rough stuff.
  11. All my wash down pumps have a quick release for the connecting hoses on them. Unhook them, take the washdown hose off and store inside. Never had a problem , air doesn't freeze.
  12. I would follow your own thoughts and follow up on the Pro - Line. IMHO a better built , laid out ,higher resale, boat. You have a lot of replies from Bayliner owners and they will talk up and defend there product, which is fine. One reply implied that if Whaler built the same hull it would be 70,000 more but never elaborated on why. The reason would be ,a better layup of glass, construction method, unsinkable hull, highest quality hardware, hull design, well thought out live wells, storage, ergonomics of controls and general layout of fishing platform. No problem taking a whaler out in 8-10 footers, cant say i would feel safe in a Bayliner under those conditions.I. have seen Bayliners with aluminium gunwales , seats placed almost on.top of each other, rub rails falling off in rough water ,poor gel coat ,no backing on deck hardware and as mentioned fish boxes with no drains and inaccessible bilges.I would look at a few name brands and compare notes.
  13. My first idea is to start your own topic. This thread is 7 years old.
  14. All the suggestions above are spot on. You obviously are marking them as indicated by your post asking " what are these ? " I would save up my money and take a couple charters to see what the Pro's are doing differently. Just owning a boat and going out on the water does not make a succsefull angler. With a smaller boat I would try to master the upper and lower Niagara. There is always calm water to be found there,
  15. Don't know why, this is the slowest site that I use. Sent them a inquiry this morning and have not heard back. These trailers are usually in the 7,000 + range. I will keep looking with that price point.
  16. Went to there website and no listing for that trailer. What did you pay for it ? You can PM me if you don't want to go public with it. Yes trailers hold there value in that size range .
  17. That part of the plate is designed to keep water from spraying back into the stern of the boat while at speed. I highly doubt that there are any hairline cracks in the housing caused by this hit. The most I would do is either sand it smooth or slap some JB weld on it and sand it so it conforms to the deflector plate.
  18. Looking for a trailer with a load capacity of 10,000 or greater. To be used on the road, not a yard trailer.
  19. I have a few, older 35mm , just have to find them, google 1973 Stamas 26 flybridge or pilot house , there are pictures on there as well as pictures without the bridge. The model is actually a Americana I believe and was listed as 26' ,never got a accurate tape on her to verify. Visited/toured the factory in Tarpon Springs a couple years after I purchased her,
  20. Sad to see the interior it in that condition. Still has the upholstery that I had made in 87 .I bought it from the original owner in 1985 and owned her for about 15 years then sold it to charter captain in Olcott who must of sold it to P11. Boat was well taken care of and took all that Lake Erie could throw at her and some, had her out in 6- 8' a few times. Built like a tank. Trailer is worth the asking price. Had a Flybridge on her that Po removed. The original owner took it to Fla one winter season and had her in the Bahamas for a week. That was the only time she saw saltwater, was kept at Rich Marina in Buffalo by original and myself ,then ended up on O. Would be nice to see her restored to her glory years.
  21. Hot Hot summer = Air conditioning demand = more water let out through control demand/.generating station = lower lake level. And yes historically from August to winter time the water level is lowered.
  22. Maybe " attending " beers ,but not fishing lines unless he was trolling at 20 + mph.. Pretty hard to end up on TOP of another boat at trolling speed, even trolling at Marlin,Tuna etc preferred trolling speeds, Most Captains will not attend to fishing lines on there way back to port,. That's a dockside project, if your insinuating he was not trolling but at speed and cleaning up broken tackle on the way back . And if he was headed out the gear should of been all set before leaving the dock, just saying.
  23. Auto pilot 101 ,unless your tapped into radar collision avoidance someone should at the very least be on look out. Saw a picture on thehulltruth of a 60-70' recently do the same thing to a Forrest Gump boat, luckily no one was seriously hurt. Had before and after pic of 70' it WAS a beautiful sled. I think they were trying to beat a timed weigh in and were hauling the mail.
  24. OP never mentioned what brand boat he was buying. He may have inferred that it was another Sylvan but we don't know for sure. Secondly I wrote , PROBABLY . Also what Dusty wrote was correct about extra weight being carried and safety. How much gas does it hold ? 60-80 gallons at 7-8 lbs per gallon along with a couple batteries . I would never tow a 22' er with a single axle, aluminum or glass.
