Giant waste of time and money to pen rear so few salmon. I bet they get under 10 fish return.

Atlantics do not compete well in any of the environments I’ve fished in ( Ontario, Seneca and Cayuga). I will admit I’m not a fisheries expert but it doesn’t seem like these programs have a good rate of return.

Studies have proven that Atlantics on an alewife diet will not flourish.  I don't understand the square block in a round hole mentality of the DEC and the Feds.

Then why do the atlantics do so well in the ST. MARYS river in Lake Huron do they not feed on alewife there too do not know if is true

The alewife population in Lake Huron crashed.  They now have a more diverse diet.  I will see if I can dig up the study I read a couple years ago.  Thiamine deficiency affects Atlantics more than the other salmonoids stocked in Lake Ontario.  There is a high mortality rate in Atlantics on alewife diets.

St Mary’s Atlantics have always been at risk. Without careful raising and stocking Atlantics, the fishery would collapse. The  people running the program admit as much.

Does lake Champlain have alewives? I thought there was a good fishery there but dont really have much direct knowledge. Atlantics In Lake o are a pipe dream at best In the finger lakes they can be a decent fishery contributer but only Maintained through stocking, being a waste there is a matter of opinion each water body should be considered as it's own

If the fingerlakes had a better food source than alewife, Atlantics would do even better than they do in the fingerlakes.  Same with lake O.  Lake Ontario would pump out giants with a better food source.
