Good post! Not trying to drum up business for anyone, but the best thing you can do is get hands on experience. When I was starting out I found the guys that were the best at what they do and went fishing with them. Some were free others were capts I paid for. Even today if I jump on one of these guys boats you learn something the same way they do when they get on mine. The money you save by getting the right gear once will more than cover the trip. I got thousands of dollars of crap that doesn't work from when I was starting out. Another thing guys can study or spend time learning is the life cycles of the bait/forage of what you wanna catch. Like an old native fishermen in Alaska told me if you wanna catch an owl learn about the mouse. Kind of funny but true. Sean

Like mike said! We use all braid for backing, it allows you to run the boards farther from the boat. Mono once you get way out will drag back into other boards. We always use like a 8ft 40 pound mono section between the core and braid to hook the board to, braid will fail after some use in the board release. Sean

Nice fish welcome to the club! If I get a Sunday off this summer when the tourneys line up I'll see you guys on the water. Sean

Like they said (for flat lines)! Unless you are running copper or core then your longer deeper riggs are closer to the boat.

First trip of the year today for the Reel Hooked Up boat. Had my dad and two of my girls out. Loaded all the gear in the boat for most of the morning then hit the lake around 10:30. The plan for the day was to make sure everything worked and to try and get a deep laker program going. The boat and gear worked great! After lots of running around the lake I located some deep Lakers off the bottom, dropped the gear in their face and put dozen in the boat quick. The girls had a blast and it was great to be back out. Everything we caught was below 120 fow, flashers/flies, and spoons off riggers. If you were 5ft off in depth with presentation they wouldn't touch it. I'll try and post some pics later. Sean

The new sea flea line from blood run works awesome! Been running it on all rigger rods. The fleas on the finger lakes are a heck of a lot worse than Ontario and with that line you will have no problem. Lots of guys down here switched to it last year. I run flouro leaders off it at different lengths. Sean

Like Jason and I always say the fish won't bite in the rain they don't like water in their eyes:). You will be OK Lakers are going to stay on same pattern until bait moves to shore. You got a long time before that happens. Once lake hits 50 near shore bait and Lakers will move up. Sean

Opinions on Parker, Steiger and Defiance Pilot Houses
Hookedup replied to RodBuster's topic in This Old Boat
Sent you a pm boat is finally out so you can take a look. As for water in the back you won't get any. If you take a wave over the back its gone in an instant. Only had that happen once and that was in Wilson in ten ftrs along way from port. I love the gunnel height with a elevated rigger base on tracks its perfect. Also you will never need a backing plate for anything. The gunnels are two inches thick. I had to go threw two inches of solid glass and wood on the dash for electronics. I would buy another Parker in a heart beat. -
Pm sent! Good luck Sean

Crap and I've killed more turkeys than I can count all over this country with a one hundred year old Winchester model 12, with a thirty inch barrel shooting 2 3/4 mag 6 turkey loads. Like said above shoot your gun at different yardages and go smoke some birds.

No one is saying boat fishermen are better or are more ethical. The problem I have is with the lifters and the guys that stomp up the Creek. It's no question that the fish in the creek are more vulnerable than the fish in the lake. And when you have a late year like this it won't help the population. Its always got me how you can crush the bows when they are spawning but bass, walleyes, EX you can't touch when they are spawning. Just the way seasons and laws were passed back in the day. If bass ran up stream in April to spawn they would of had a season also since they were in the creek.

You are right Andre! I am not bashing tribes guys but there are more than a few groups that will have a hole surrounded and won't stop till every fish in that hole is in a truck tool box. I've seen it several times. You can loose two or three years worth of 3 to 8 pounders in one day. All those scum bags do is keep some poor kid and his dad from getting one bow in the creek that they would be happy as hell with. I know I'll be hunting for them and I don't mean the trout.

Get better! Hope to post some fish pics for ya soon! That always helps when your laid up:)

Yup! With the water level the way it is a lot of Bows will never see the lake again.
