Braddocks Jig Bite 8/7

Well FINALLY (new baby will do that to you) got out on the big lake for a jigging trip for kings and it didn’t disappoint. I got my brother out and he went 7-12 and I went 5-8. We had way more bites than hookups but we did manage a double and got some really nice bites! Amazing that such an apex predator is so good as missing a jigged spoon 😂 Jigging is still the best!

With a screen like I have been seeing lately , I can see how you jig guys would be doing well .

Have you tried the assist hooks on your "salmon" jigs yet? It sure helps on walleyes...... and it didn't hurt bite numbers on the bar in the spring. There is something different about the way salmon feed that promotes missed swipes at the bait, or bumps. Maybe they crash and return for cripples....... after 2 years of exclusively jigging for them, it's not a high percentage game unless circumstances are right. And other than packs of fish (competition for food)I wish I could figure out what makes them right.,,,,,,

Salmon like to hit from below moving up or while the jig is dropping so the jig essentially flips and the hook  points down while you yank up to set hook it will cause misses but its a blast to do if you can hit it right i wish my fishing partners were more paitent to do it more often

Can you provide a range of depths you were working? I hope to go off Bear Creek tomorrow and a starting point would go a long way. Thanks.....

The walleye don’t seem to mind them at all, so I will have to try them again on the salmon jigs, and see if that increases the hookup effectiveness. I swear the few times we tried them mid summer, the kings actively avoided the assist jig.

The only thing I have used for jigging salmon is Castmaster spoons in metallic blue, metallic green, and chrome, and we did good on them in the fall in Manistee Lake in Manistee, Michigan. So I was just wondering what you were using out on the big lake. Good luck to everyone that's fishing this year, no matter what method you're using.

2 Oz EJ jigs. You can get them at Sportsmans. Lighting Tiger and Clever Alewife seem to work the best.
