  2. No worries - like others stated it works well. I don't think it's an additive relationship - many factors to consider but a deep diving crank combined with leadcore definitely gets deeper than the leadcore alone.
  3. I personally think this would be a nightmare. If you want to get deeper with the diver let more line out or adjust speed. If you need a few extra feet of depth on a core add an ounce or two of lead via a half hitched rubber band or snap weight. The diver on a core won't work like you think it will...as the diver won't have the ability to "dig" when there is an effective upward force due to the larger diameter of the leadcore as it is pulled through the water...the result will be a large belly in the leadcore as a result of the diver and it won't work and will be even harder to trip the dipsey..

  5. Steve - your boat has a 17 pitch MercuryTempest Plus on it. When I was fishing it I almost always had 4 guys on board and a bunch of gear. Trimmed out it would do about 41-42 MPH GPS in dead flat seas, which was right up against the rev limiter for the motor. It will turn a 19 pitch stainless prop - in fact that's what I had on it but with 4 guys I couldn't get max RPMs and didn't want to damage the powerhead. With the 19 pitch, 2 guys and a lighter load (without the bimini up and flat seas) you could get around 45-46mph GPS, so if you go up to a 19 pitch I would expect a little more top end. Heavy loads and rough seas I liked the 17 pitch better as it has better bite. The motor I believe is mounted in either the 2nd or 3rd hole from the top, so it's in the middle - not sunk and not all the way up - the anti-cavitation plate is about a half inch under the water when trimmed out at full throttle. I had it moved up from the original hole for a higher mount as it helped me get the wide open RPMs up to the max when at full throttle which is where you want it. I played with a lot of props and found the Tempest Plus to perform the best of any of the ones I tried which included the Yamaha stainless props as well. Just FYI - there is some history as to why there is a Mercury prop on the Yamaha motor on your boat. -Bob

  8. Parker comes into the house with them on him all the time - they are easy to spot on him - but until we get about a foot of snow on the ground they seem to be on the prowl!
  9. Trout hunter - I'm pretty sure the genetics of the fish in the lake today came from the larger fish you mention that lived there generations ago...genetics are there - probably more a product of the environment.

Winter storage, slip, haul out and dump in, bottom paint, hull wax, new impellers every couple of years or more, batteries every few years, canvas every so often, cushions/bolsters, insurance - will need a survey too, as most insurance companies will require it on an older boat, and most marinas require you to carry insurance, fuel, fuel filters if you have a water separator, new plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor every few years, starters, alternators, winterization fees if you don't do it yourself, oil changes every 50-75 hours, then there are other things to look for - it will likely need stringers at some point if its a penn yan - that's a 10k expense minimum, then there are the catastrophic expenses when you need to have an engine rebuilt or some other break down. Should have a few k set aside for a rainy day for that kind of stuff as well. There's more - it's never ending with older boats. You need to enjoy working on them also - or it will just be an exercise in frustration.....
  11. My guess is 2-3 gallons per hour. I have twin 454 Crusaders in my boat and that's a tad less than what I use (heavier boat so need to run slightly higher RPMs most likely). On plane probably around 15-17 gallons per hour at cruise speeds. If you are worried about fuel consumption breaking the bank - realize that there are a ton of other expenses associated with owning a boat like this.
  12. I have a flush mounted X4 with power cables and transducer but would need a probe. Includes head unit and starboard that is cut for flush mounting. Not exactly what you are probably looking for but I'm sure others will chime in.
  13. Often times it's the smaller details that matter. I doubt a trolling plate is the cause of your lack of fish. Not trying to be a jerk - but how do you know you are doing everything the correct way to catch fish? Something as simple as a 5 degree difference in trolling direction some days is the difference between catching a big box and ending up with a goose egg. There is a huge learning curve with trolling - a lot of people think it's just driving around with some lures down...to do it right involves optimizing more variables than any other type of fishing in my opinion. Keep reading and ask questions - above all be open minded and willing to learn.

  15. Does anyone know if they are just doing the detached wall or the entire harbor? It seems like they have been working on the detached wall for a while.
  16. Call Jon's little salmon river shop - I believe he had a couple of the green blank heartlands left as of a couple weeks ago when I stopped in - although unsure on length and action.
  17. Unless there is something unique about your boat it shouldn't be a problem at all.

  19. Some days no matter what you do one type of presentation won't fire. Riggers can be on fire one day and dead the next - same thing with wire or boards....if you are consistently having problems then you probably need to change something up - but if this is just one data point I don't think you should draw too many conclusions.
