Lets get this thread started!!! The 2023 season is just around the corner. As always I'm looking forward to returning back into the deer woods. Lets see some of those trail cam pics!

Last season's gun buck story as posted in the 2022 thread

November 19 am
28 degrees
SW wind 10-15 mph
Cloudy

Opening day gun season

Well my archery season wasn't what I had hope for. Damn work got in the way of hunting. The last two days I was hesitant of hunting because of the wind. A steady light wind works for where I wanted to be but not a heavy gusty wind so I stayed out. And I'm glad I did.

I got in stand about 610 or so and slowly got settled in with hundred layers. Before I even got my jacket on I had a buck sneak past me about 30 yards. It was too dark to tell which buck it was but of course I was convinced it was one of my target bucks. Ill admit... it screwed with my head a bit.
Gun shots started ringing out about 639ish from every direction. Then about 715 I noticed movement cutting down the same spot cruising bucks have been using for 2 weeks. Things happen fast. It doesn't take long to realize he's a shooter. I stand turn to my right. Rest the gun on the tree. The deer just happens to stop at 30 yards and I pull the trigger. He dropped in his tracks but I got hit high. 9x scope at 30 yards I guess I should have held down on him. I had to finish him off with a second shot. If only the guy shooting was as good as the gun. [emoji38].

To my surprise i have no history with this deer. Big thick wide 9pt with split g2. I'll be patiently waiting on the late season to start!

We run a bunch of them, as well as Moultrie. Make sure that you set them up at home and verify that they work as advertised. I had one that needed to be replaced in the first year. It only took three months and two trips to their headquarters lol.

I'm also a big fan of running them off external 10 Ah lithium batteries (Nermark on Amazon is ~$45). Lithium AA are expensive, and these cameras eat them. Buy once, cry once. Be aware that you need smaller connector cable than for many other brands (Tactacam takes 4 x 1.7 mm connectors, while Moultrie takes 5.5 x 2.1 mm). The cheap, gasketed Plano field boxes can be had for less than $10. This setup will last you all season (remember: protect the cord from critters with corrugated electric conduit). Run the wire from underneath over the camera and under a strap before going to the battery to keep it from being pulled out.

Make absolutely sure you use the recommended drive  32gb Class 10 U3 sd card. Hard to go wrong with Sandisk. Finally, figure out whether your ATT or Verizon signal is better where you're hanging them, and insert the right SIM card before you get to the woods.

Hey, you did ask for tips lol.

Little late for the party,,, but glad to see you’ve made the switch, you won’t be disappointed. As you know I’m a SPYPOINT guy.. these cameras all have their quirks on you get them all fired up and running you will learn as you go.. good luck I run 12 now year round.. it’s like being there when your not.. lol you’ll see the ONE I’m after two years with him !! Hopefully Mallory or I can seal the deal this year!!!! Bring on October 30.. FYI East Fork shut down for deer season

So I bit the bullet and bought a pile of Tactacam Reveal XPros. Who's using them? Any tricks of the trade that I should know?

Run the sd cards that they suggest you use... seems like most of peoples issues stem from card issues.... im up to 20 reveals out now and zero issues in 3 years with any of mine

Spent the majority of the day in the deer woods yesterday. Checking stands, clearing shot lanes, moved one set, and most importantly hanging cameras. IOt hasnt been 24 hours yet and Im already addicted to these cell cams!
