Crap flowing downhill usually creates algae blooms.

Last I checked there are Democrats on the hill contributing to the crap flowing downstream.  I am a registered Independent and/or an equal opportunity whiner. I make fun of both sides when needed.

The thread is about forces in government attempting to pass legislation that will negatively affect our outdoor experiences. Your take on the cleanliness of a pool of water is useless.

More and more of the people that have money and means are moving out of the state . And with last night's NYC results and the rich man is bad , take his money crap , more will leave. Kathy gave , what , 4 billion of NYS taxpayers money to bail out NYC to get their vote . But guess what Kathy , like they railroaded Andy out for someone more progressive , you are next .

I've been saying for years , we would be a great 51st state . The only thing keeping me as a resident here is the fishing . My wife wants out . And pretty soon, that won't be enough  to keep me here .

HB2 you still haven’t figured out what this thread is about. I would be willing to guess that the amount of people on this forum that voted for Hochul or any of the progressives in NYC, could be counted on one hand.

Yes , I know what this thread is about

My take is how is this going to affect the NYS fishery and wild areas , and our entire outdoor experiece in this country going forward

The battle , and it seems we are losing somewhat , is where our tax dollars are going to be allocated .

The money has to come from somewhere . And as the political landscape is changing  . Downstate majorities are not going to care about our frivolous playtimes up here.

That 4 billion could do a lot upstate or at least some of it . Downstate is going to bleed us .Kathy told the rich to move to Florida  and they did , and took their money with them . Now she's literally begging them to come back . Because she needs their tax dollars they contributed  that the left says they don't pay enough of .

I've said for years , politics will affect your fishing . After what happened in NYC, buckle up . Its Coming to a big city near you .

Don’t be surprised if Hochul loses the election.

History repeats itself

Read up on the Russian revolution . We are living it in real time . And the Dems are letting this happen because they don't have the stones to stop it . Young people promised everything and when they get in power they are cast aside or put in the fields to work .

Kathy will be pushed aside by someone even more progressive . Just like Andy was .

I'm glad in old . My father said years ago that the country will be taken over by people that won't fire a shot .

Wish DC would get off their fat butts on this one:

JOINT U.S.–CANADIAN COMMITTEE OF ADVISORS URGES ACTION ON INVASIVE MUSSELS THROUGH
PASSAGE OF THE SAVE THE GREAT LAKES FISH ACT

ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN— The Joint U.S.–Canadian Committee of Advisors to the Great Lakes Fishery Commission
(Commission) unanimously passed a resolution supporting the Save the Great Lakes Fish Act of 2025 (H.R. 6053). The Act calls on the U.S. Congress to pass legislation asking the Commission to launch a coordinated effort to find a control solution that could be deployed to combat invasive zebra and quagga mussels throughout the Great Lakes basin.

Passed on June 3, 2026, the resolution highlights the severe ecological and economic impacts invasive mussels have had on the Great Lakes over the past three decades. Advisors note that zebra and quagga mussels, introduced through ballast water from ocean-going vessels in the late 1980s, have dramatically altered the food web, reduced populations of key forage organisms, increased water clarity by eliminating vital microorganisms, damaged infrastructure, and contributed to avian botulism outbreaks that have killed tens of thousands of birds.

“Invasive mussels continue to fundamentally alter the Great Lakes ecosystem and threaten the fish populations,
communities, and economies that depend on these waters,” the resolution states. The advisors contend that, despite decades of research, no effective large-scale control strategy currently exists for invasive mussels and that a coordinated research initiative is urgently needed.

Shipping on the great lakes should be footing the bill for every invasive that has affected the environment in the great lakes.  Oil companies have a spill, they pay millions.  Shipping companies cause just as much damage with introduction of invasives and they walk away Scott free......

The only way that could happen is if the GLFC and IFC convinced the Seaway Development Corp and the Canadian Seaway Authority to impose a few % surcharge on transit fees on freighters that is specifically for Great Lakes environmental cleanup.

In rough numbers:

The typical incoming freighter carries 10,000 tons. (low ball) Transit fees vary depending on type of cargo from $0.85 to $3.75 per ton.  So, if we say $1.50/ton (low ball) is typical then the typical freighter has to pay $15,000 for a one-way transit.  If the surcharge is 10%, then each freighter would contribute $1,500 per transit.

In 2024, 23.6 million tons transited.  At 10,000 ton per freighter, that's 2,360 freighters for a total environmental contribution of $3,540,000 per year to support SAVE THE FISH ACT.
