Saturday all day sit planned for my first outing. A week of rain,SW light wind, no real moon- should have bucks on their feet checking their territory and laying down sign.

Probably the most active my cameras have been overnight this entire year so far... Curious to see how far past daylight the activity goes.

and by far the most buck activity I have seen this year

I had eight bucks within range yesterday evening, so I'd agree that they're getting more jiggy with it. Three were in a small bachelor group though and none showed much interest in doe, so while cautiously optimistic, I don't think we are anywhere near yet.

My completely uninformed and arbitrary opinion is that this year's rut is going to be hard and fast.

No sign of the grave robbing Fox last night but this guy was hanging out eating apples.

I've had 2 different good bucks break off times in the last two days!  One broke a g3 off like a week ago and his G2 two days ago.  And a 4 year old broke off his G2 two days ago!

I nicknamed him bully lol last year he was fighting every buck he saw as a 3 yr old.  And he is starting out the same this yr as a 4 year old 🤣

We have a similar situation where one of our better bucks broke off his G3 in early September and now a second good buck broke off his G2. Hopefully it's because they were sparring with a beast, and that beast will make himself known soon.

Saw this video today and I thought I would share. This is easily the best bow tuning video I have ever seen. It is long but damn it is good!

Hoping for an interesting weekend. The lake effect rain up here has been pretty steady. Tomorrow afternoon looks awesome. Fingers crossed.

Other than this drizzle that decided to find me, great start to the morning. Two scrub bucks and four does around stand. Does did not have their yearlings and were making a point to urinate down their tarsal glands every 50 yards on the deer trail they were on. Fun to watch the pair of scrubs start tracking the does. All deer moving very cautiously. Everything is on pins and needles for what is coming

Agreed. Lots of scrub bucks on doe now. Couple nice bucks showing on camera but no chasing per se. Rubs and scrapes everywhere in a woods that was devoid of them six days ago.

Rob, if you need council for withdrawal symptoms, I can recommend someone. I'm here for you man. Tommy on the other hand is on his own lol.

I have not been hunting so my observations are purely what my cams tell me.

Cams have been on fire. Full of bucks of all sizes. Most of my pics at this point are of horns.

Im seeing lots of premature chasing by young bucks annoying doe groups.

I have 4 cameras on mock scrapes and they are crushing them. (lots of visits from does and fans also). I have also witnessed on cam 2 new scrapes made in front of cams in the past 2 days. One of them has had 5 bucks visit it including one that performed the classic rub urination in it.

That methodical and very predictable summer pattern that was here for the first 2 weeks of the season is history. The mature daywalkers that I had patterned seem to be moving much closer to last light and first light. I have one cam that is literally in the middle of bedding and that one still produces daywalkers on a regular basis. One of my shooters was on cam yesterday at 340 pm. I will say now if I put a deer to bed it seems highly unlikely Ill catch him on the same cam in the afternoon. The crops around me have all been harvested so its not as easy to eat as it was 3 weeks ago. Late September and early October I had such a great acorn drop that these deer were too easy to pattern. You just needed to find their travel route. I assumed that is where the buck I shot early this month was headed and the buck my son shot was literally shot as he arrived to our oak ridge. (his belly was full of acorns).

Its that time of year and all hell is about to break loose. Good luck boys!

Well I have to admit Im getting stir crazy sitting on the sidelines. I decided to look around PA and find some where to hunt during the rut. After exhausting a bunch of possibilities I found a small outfitter in the middle of the state. My plan is to head there November 6-9 and hunt the rut. I dont know much about the outfitter so it is definitely kind of a risk. We have had a couple of phone conversations and it seems like it should work out. It will be nice to get back in the game!

Alright, my bad - you can hold my hand in the blind that Brian remodeled. It's getting cold and I need a snuggle buddy.

Seriously though, if you and Mal need a place to sit while she's up later this week, just call. It's a closer option than your place, in case of a case, and with the tower blinds, somewhat rain-proof. Plus, I wouldn't mind if Mal got a shot at that bruiser either.

Rob, you ever consider trying the northern zone gun season?  If anything it might be a good workout while rejuvenating the soul in Adirondacks.

I hunted the northern zone for 15 plus years and the change in scenery was always nice. I always went up there for Early muzzy season and then the gun season. Too much time and effort here to spend any time up there anymore. Id much rather hunt my herd and I have my eye on 3 bucks that Id like to wrap a tag around on my home territory.
