Well camera sightings have changed significantly this week. Bucks of all sizes are all over cruising but does have not been showing themselves. I would say doe sightings on cameras are down 75%. Lots of pictures of does being bumped by smaller bucks. Patterns seem non existent. Shooters walking between 930-230. Chaos has started. I think its crazy that even with the current weather pattern the action out there has still been good-great. Sat pm- Monday am look great weather wise here in 8A. and Sunday AM looks to be textbook perfect.

Cameras have been on fire overnight... 16 different bucks so far (from what I can count)

Slammed on brakes on way in to avoid hitting a cruising scrub buck with my Yukon. Same pattern so far. Two yearlings without mom. One scrub buck slowly working through cover scent checking everything. ……….and here come the squirrels!  Lots of rutting squirrel chase scenes

Another 6 pointer came by tracking a young doe. Everyone is still walking very carefully on pins and needles.  Both parties are standing on the sidelines at the dance because the music ain’t quite right

Spent some time on the ground rattling and scouting remote southern tier state land this morning. Prime food is in shortage in the woods. With a poor nut crop, and no apples has deer on an AG pattern. Do some scouting this year if you are heading to southern counties as everything is really spread out.

My older boy was on stand yesterday evening. Our target buck on that property has been seen a few times over the last three days but no shots yet. Around 4:30 my kid sees the buck running just north of him. He couldn’t understand why until a minute later. Trespassers suck in general but to add a shotgun during bow season is just next level.

So what happened with him? What was his excuse?

Had none. Walked up on my son and said he wasn’t hunting and walked away quickly. He walked by another young hunter either before or after, he’s the one that took the pic.

That is infuriating for sure, not hunting, right. If the DEC does not deal with him it will only be a bigger problem in the future!

I think he knows who we are now, we have met before. I sincerely doubt he will be back.

Bucks were cruising this morning. Fresh scrapes finally appearing.   Get out if you can.

I watched an eight and a nine sparring less than 15 yards in front of me this morning. Would have caught a video, but a very mature doe was watching the bucks at less than 7 yards from me, so no bueno. We also have numerous chase sequences on camera. If we get a blank picture, it's usually a buck chasing as we find out when we request the video lol.

 

This is the best time of the year. And sometimes the most frustrating, like when I was hearing tales but seeing jack for several days. One hot doe and it all changes.

I had to lock up my brakes the last two mornings on way in because of bucks mindlessly crossing the road in the dark. Called in a nice state land 3.5 yr old eight pointer this morning with a snort wheeze and some grunts. Short tines so he got a pass. Mr itchy was not happy. Seeing new rubs and scrapes show up today. Ramping up for sure.

Cameras have been on fire all week, lots of doe bumping, and scrapes are getting crushed. Great time to be in the woods.

 

With that being said... I am heading to PA today to get in the action. Ill be back in the woods Thursday- Sunday. Hoping I have some good action to give a play by play.

Nothing worse for deer movement than a warm south wind and approaching rain.  Not seeing much movement. Two yearlings is all. Anyone try Conquest Scents doe-n-Heat bomb?  I think I got hoodwinked into buying a $20 can of air. This stuff has no detectable odor.
