All Canadian launches are shut down and even they can’t fish recreationally from boats

Not true - if you have a launch on your own property, you can go out fishing as long as you are fishing alone or with family members that live in your primary residence.

Actually we can fish if we can get our boats in the water a few lucky individuals have private launches on their own property. Public and commercial launches are closed. We can fish with members of our household or by maintaining two meter distance from contact with others.

You run the boat and I'll run the riggers and reel in the fish.

Maybe on the US side they can see the fine print on the fishing license in the middle of the lake but us Canadians still use these things:

Actually when I was stopped by Shiprider a US Coastgardsman said your guys have better boats. It is quite impressive to watch them launch and retrieve the ridgid inflatables off the big boat or watch the Big RCMP RIB scream by. A lot of the boats are built by a company in Kingston that have facilities on both sides of the river.

Perhaps I’m mistaken. My friend in Ottawa was afraid to trail boat to a private launch n Quinte as he thought the trip could be non essential travel.

I sure wouldn't give advise but travel between areas is frowned on . I go out and run the back roads for about an hour a week just to get myself and my wife out of the house and see if the rest of the world is still out there. She feels guilty but we don't stop and interact with others so unless I run off the road and need a tow I don't.

Thank you for the clarification. I would have thought your government would have spent more time clarifying that statement. My brilliant legal mind also interprets that statement as being directed toward Residents of Canada. Time will tell

I just called Canadian Customs and was told you can travel by boat from NU side of the river to fish Canadian waters if you don’t anchor or touch land. This is very confusing with conflicting information. Likely couldn’t get in trouble as Customs said you could do it but I think I’ll pass this weekend.

This info is from the Canadian Border Services Agency website;

If you enter Canadian waters, you are not required to present yourself and report your goods to the CBSA if you:

  • do not land on Canadian soil and do not anchor, moor or make contact with another conveyance while in Canadian waters;
  • do not embark or disembark people or goods in Canada.

Some may give you grief about our social distancing rules however if you follow what is noted above, there is nothing wrong as long as you head back across the lake.

Just because the launches are closed doesn't mean fishing is closed.

I just talked with people that fished bridge at Ogdensburg, sunken ship and starch factory. Said lots of people from NY fishing Canadian waters with no troubles. Never saw any law from Canada  on the water. Fishing was very slow. People think the fish may have already spawned
