Usually I don’t mess with coyotes until after late season deer is over but special situations call for quicker action.
On October 8 I had to put my lab Duke down. Tough stuff but it was time. Buried him in the backyard in a spot he loved. Today I walked by to freshen up a scrape and the coyotes had tried to dig him out last night. They got pretty close, including ripping off a piece of the blanket he was wrapped in.
I filled the hole back up and took a large glass table off the deck and placed it over the site. I put a cell cam in a tree 15 feet away. The site is only 40 yards from my house and the .204 will be ready tonight when he, they, come back. Upstairs bedroom window has seen many a coyote get killed. Hopefully more to come soon.

Sorry about your lab Bill.  Sucks. I just put my 8 year old lab down due to cancer in his sinus cavity.  Get those bastards for trying to dig him up!

Got a pic of a fox last night but I don’t think a fox was trying to get to him. The table I put over the grave might have kept a Yote from coming in but we will see.

If everything goes to plan, should be out Saturday night.  I think PA is dumping a bunch of pheasant in game lands near our camp.  Hopefully the ditch chicken hunters don't scare away all the fox/'yotes after the state dumps a bunch of free food for them.

Any other action?  Went out a few nights ago and called in a yearling to about 30 yards.  Didn't have the heart to to take the little guy out.

Tough way to start the thread, Bill. Sorry for your loss. Was there recently, and it was brutal.

I will say, yotes trying to dig up my dog would have my blood boiling. They would be killed by any means necessary.

Well it’s that time of year. Looking for fresh roadkill deer in the northwest portion of Monroe County.

There was one on the parkway eastbound at Dewey.  Right at the off ramp.  I will check to see if it is still there.

Just saw one on north side of the road across from 5465 Ridge Rd. (Parma) if you are still in need. Just follow the crows.

The one off Dewey was pretty chewed up but the one on West Ridge was perfect and has a new home. Can never know how long it will be before it gets hit but the .204 is ready to go.

Do you slice the hide and get the guts open up.  We make cuts all over the deer and once that side is eaten roll it over for their last dinner (hopefully)....jk

Crazy first outing of the year. I had a friend and his dad out. Trying to get his dad on his first coyote. We called in 16 coyotes and 2 fox. Unfortunately he had some shooting woes and missed 5 coyotes 😭lol. It was still a fun night though with some awesome action. I ended up shooting that yote at just under 250 yards after I called him back in for the 4th time lol. Then hit the fox solo on the way home. Let it begin!

Did a couple of sets last night, called in a few foxes (shot one). Thought I would have a little more action than I did, but it's not a bad start. Clipped the video as I pulled left on the initial shot and almost blew the front leg off ( don't like showing animals in pain due to my idiocy). Def forgot how jacked up I get on these thermal hunts. Gonna have to remember to settle in and take that deep breath, Much smaller target than a big ol doe!
