This all depends on the time of the year.  I can say this, all three times we have won the Sandy Creek Shootout, we fished the creek to the Nose.  That being said, its a time of the year thing.  That period in the summer, that area holds tons of kings.  Fast forward to the end of August, the kings are more prevalent Wautoma and East on the structure..

Just an FYI this project was posted on the Rochester Builders Exchange website this morning.

Unfortunately the drawings are not public so i can't download them to see what they will actually be doing to the launch, but the project description is as follows:

 

Project Description: Furnish all labor, materials, equipment, and supervision necessary for the reconstruction of an existing boat launch site. Work includes, but is not limited to, demolition of existing structures, grading, installation of concrete launch ramp and new floating docks.

That is sweet.

In that case , the work will probably get underway this fall when the water level will go down.

In my dreams , I can see a channel wide enough for 2 boats to pass each other that is dug  all the way to the parking lot where the launches can be situated. Maybe even a fence around the parking lot and a few cameras to help monitor  and possibly identify hoodlums trying to break into vehicles..

If caught, those hoodlums should be sentenced to brushing the launches with a toothbrush.

Ah, one can only dream.

Stopped at Survey boat today and asked about why nothing is getting done on ramp , and yes I was nice about it . The guys said  that it's in the works and think those improvements will be done this year.

That is a really good idea . Like a canal of sorts . Deep and wide enough . I doubt that will happen but it would definitely be nice . If it was deep enough ,could be a good spot for bass and panfish

Im out of Sandy as well. I fish the nose to lighthouse. My point I guess is I would have no interest in walking on mossy wet wood to launch a boat. Should that be the case I would launch at Bald Eagle or any other place close.

I talked to the survey guys today at about 1030. They asked me how I did . Then I said , it's probably not your job but what's up with the launch ? Is this really right ? This does not reflect well on the county or the state to out of staters . 

 

The guys said well ,cut is our job and we are working on doing something. 

 

Now it's closed . Less traffic for guys like me . But I feel bad for guys that like to fish there .

I mean, it’s not the first time the water has been high or that the docks have been under water over there. Why are so called “sportsmen” complaining about walking over 10 to 15 feet of slippery dock? We are all adults and all know how to be careful. Even if I were to fall, it would be no one’s fault other than my own…..and I’m not coming after the state even if I did get hurt. Unfortunately not everyone would handle things that way, and it’s sad honestly. A lot of people have launched out of sandy all year and have been fine. Very unfortunate really.

When that launch was built the lake was maintained at a lower level. Pre 2014. 
When it was built there was no reason to believe it would become an issue.

So the rumors are true... The Sandy Creek public boat launch has met all the approvals to be replaced/reworked. It is currently out for bid and I havent heard anything beyond that. I have seen the plans and it resembles the new Point Breeze boat launch on the east side.

Fisherman 21 you are a young man and a great Outdoorsman love you stories and pics of your son flipped that scenario around the father's now 75 the 30 year old son is doing the walking up and down the hill he comes walking back from parking the rig find his father with a crackhead upside down floating in the water dead I don't believe the state wants that on its head. It's that simple

I understand that. Obviously no one ever wants a situation like that to happen. I had an older guy that actually used to cut my deer up, he slipped on a dock and fell and broke his neck. Very unfortunate situation. He didn’t blame the state though for the dock being slippery. No one has to launch at sandy if they aren’t comfortable and don’t feel safe launching at sandy. You could go to bald eagle, braddocks, the genny. 
Again, no one wants to see anyone get hurt. But guys have been launching there all spring/summer without incident and in years past under the same scenario without incident. It’s really not that bad. Half the year we walk on ice around here. 10 feet of slippery dock is not unmanageable. Do I agree it could be fixed, yes of course. But I also don’t think it should have been closed down

Maybe the state could have talk to their laws put up a sing  saying launch at your own risk . But the TV commercials are flooded with lawyers saying slipped in a fall give us a call

Wow… lots to cry about… we men or children … bald eagle has very limited parking and is a single launch… I guess I better prepare for a longer launch/retrieval times…ugh…

This morning shortly before sunrise a boat was launched from the Sandy Creek public launch. So is it really closed or is it closed unless you know how to open the gate?

For the launch being closed , there sure are a lot of people using it .
